  1. Not to be a smart butt here, but if this game is decided by a KICKER, i don't wanna be there! Kickers aren't football players. Just ask Bill Parcells! He once asked the trainer if the kicker could go on Sunday or not?? The trainer said, I don't think he can play. Bill said, oh come on, he doesn't have to play, he just needs to kick!! I'm tired of hearing about how great D-B's kickers are! Let's talk about ALL of their state championships!! Not the mythical ones either!
  2. oh my goodness! let's not make those big bad Indians mad! hey contender, i have an idea...........let's make them mad one year before the playoffs start! thumb
  3. I'll take South and 31 contender. Where would you like to meet and how much are you willing to put up? I'll even let your old buddy Art hold the money
  4. I agree with you warrior that South didn't look too good in the first half against your team, but I'm not sure where you get your basis for what you said here. You say South can't cover the pass. How many yards did you guys have throwing the ball after the first quarter? You did get beat by 30 you know? And, i think you all are a very good single A team. Or maybe AA, not sure. Anyway, HV is a decent team here with a very good QB I think, and South dominated after the first quarter in every phase of the game. Also, South will have a very good passing game soon. The QB is a soph. so give him some time and he will be very good. Now, with all this being said, HV is no D-B, and I hope South can keep it close on Thursday.
  5. They run from a shotgun 4 and 5 wide most of the time believe it or not. This was very effective in opening up the middle for lots of big yardage vs. Happy Valley. Now, we all know D-B is in a different class than HV. Defense is pretty quick at LB's. Lots of good athletes, but not sure if they'll have enough quickness vs. the Mighty Indians. We'll see......
  6. You are correct, there is no love lost between these two schools. I'm a Rebel fan and a friend of Mr. Maxwell. Good to see T getting the ball some this year for the Indians. I hope they stick with him because he is such a great kid. You'll not find a better kid than him on either side. But, we have some good kids too that will be busting their butts come Thursday night and I wish them the best. You may be right, D-B may drill our eyes out, but after the game, the Mighty Indians will know they've been hit. Hey, we're both looking for respect here. Neither team has ever won a state championship (we don't really count the mythical ones do we???).
  7. Just got home from the jamboree and thought I'd give my 2 cents worth. Two teams that really impressed me were North and South. North has a huge line and controlled their quarter with Tenn. High. The Vikings played a lot of kids so I know they weren't showing much. South dominated Elizabethton plain and simple. Both sides of the ball. Maybe Betsy wasn't trying to show much either. If they weren't.......they succeeded! South is small, but very quick and aggressive. Soph. QB is the real deal. Other teams, Central, Johnson Co., Unicoi Co. and East didn't look like they had much. We'll see??? I may end up way wrong, but the top 4 are definitely T-High, Betsy, South and North. And at this point, I'd have to say that South is a definite threat to win this conference. I'm open for other opinions here.
  8. This is quite a funny post. Powell Valley is a very good scrimmage opponent. The Powell Valley Vikings are 7 time Virginia State Champions and have produced several D-1 players throughout the years including the Jones brothers. Julius of the Dallas Cowboys and Thomas of Tampa Bay. I'm not even going to harp about the quality of Va. athletes as compared to Tn. athletes. Everyone knows the story there. Just check D-1 college rosters and do the math. Just because a school is smaller in student population doesn't mean they won't kick your tail on the football field. Ask Tn. High fans what happened the last time they visited little ole Gate City just a few years ago. I'll tell you what happened..........they stopped scheduling them. And by the way, while Gate City was kicking Tn High's tail, they were getting their own kicked by Powell Valley. Now, with all this being said, Tn High is probably better than P.V. this year. But, normally, PV has the upper hand. As down as PV is, this will still be a good scrimmage. To make a long story even longer, this was a good choice by Stubbs and Co. thumb
  9. I didn't win Meals. Not a fan of either school. I just got tired of hearing how 'great' the Vikings were. Then, when I tried to point out my thoughts on what would happen in the playoffs, they wouldn't listen. Most argued and got mad. They were looking through maroon colored glasses I guess.
  10. I hate to tell all the Viking faithful this but.............I told you sooooo!! Especially shell, who argued all month that the Vikings were for real. Now what do u think? MLC football is NOT on the same level as other high school football in the state. Admit it now please??? Come on, you can do it. thumb
  11. You are correct Shell, my Rebs were the weakest link tonight. I'm calling a truce with you. The Vikes won with special teams and that's 1/3 of football. I just hope this game proves my point. Remember when all the Viking faithful were saying this game was going to be a cake walk? All of you expected to win by at least 28-50 points. The Vikings had 84 yards of TOTAL offense last night. 84!! That is unheard of winning a game with that type of offensive output. If not for a few VERY COSTLY sophmore mistakes, South wins. Plain and simple. If Tn High is to do anything outside of this conference, they must improve drastically. I don't see it happening, but I've been fooled before. I hope all you Viking fans are correct in how great you think this team is. Because I'd love to see them or Betsy for that matter advance on, but I just don't see it. Good Luck to you!
  12. Vikings 31 Rebels 17. Rebels led 17-16 early in the fourth quarter and another special teams blunder (3rd one of the night) led to the game turning around. Shell, you are sooooooo right!! These 'Mighty' Vikings cannot be stopped!! They will surely level any team in their path on their way to ANOTHER state championship!! Just win, win, win. Maryville LOOK OUT!!!! If you can stay within 40 points of this POWERFUL team, consider it an accomplishment.
  13. Quite the contrary Shell. I'm optimistic by nature, but I'm also a realist. I would LOVE to see a team from this conference win a state title, but the bottom line is.........it ain't gonna happen. Not now, and not in the near future. I have absolutely nothing against the Vikings, I'm just stating the facts. South has had great success against THigh throughout the years. Even in our down years the last few years, we've still been competitive (until this season) with you. I just know that there are better conferences and better teams around. I usually pick what I think will be a good game each week and go watch different teams. THigh has a very good team this year. Maybe the best team they've ever had. But, they still are not as good as the Betsy teams of the late 90's or the South team of 93 that lost to a very powerful and eventual state champ Cleveland team in the semis. And teams that I've seen this year that are AT LEAST a notch above them this year are......D-B, Oak Ridge, Maryville, Gate City and Powell Valley. This does say a lot for the Vikes though, seeing that the only team I've listed that they will have to contend with is Maryville. You might want to get out a little more and see things for yourself. But, if not, you'll find out in a couple of weeks. Good Luck to the Vikings!! thumb
  14. Okay Shell, you win. We're beating a dead horse here. Turn that upside down , in a couple of weeks this'll all be over and you'll realize that the level of football really does go up a few notches outside the MLC. It doesn't matter if it's "just on the other side of Knoxville" or not. For that matter, if you want to see a different level of ball, you don't have to go that far. Just travel to D-B or lil ole Gate City and see for yourself. Wasn't that long ago that G.C. had to quit playing the Vikes because the Vikes level of play wasn't good enough to prepare the Blue Devils for post season play. Should I go back and look up those Viking/Blue Devils scores to prove my point?? But, you probably have all those since you're such a 'wealth of knowledge'. Have a wonderful day and good luck to your Vikes! P.S. Don't say that I'm using all these other teams to cover for my beloved Rebels. I'm just proving a point. I have NO doubt that Tenn. High is a better team than anyone else in the MLC. But that and .50 cents will get them a cup of coffee at McDonalds. It won't bring home a state title for you Shell.
  15. Thanks for a very informative post Shell. I would have never known how 'great' the Vikes are if not for your post. No one on this board has told of the Viking greatness. Bottom line.........Vikes are a good football team in a very weak conference. I hate to admit it because I've been a fan of this conference since it's inception. And I played in this conference in the early 80's. If not for the IMAC being so down this year, the MLC doesn't even get out of the first round. Which has become the norm. Sit back and watch Shell, you're living in a fantasy world. I'd love for someone from the MLC to advance to the finals, but it ain't going to happen. One thing you are correct about though..........next year the roles will be reversed thumb Vikes 34 Rebs 17.........Vikes 34 Cyclones 17..........Maryville 52 Vikes 14
  16. Fluke yes. Tenn High is the better team, but if you saw the game, the momentum changed with the safety mid way through the second quarter with the Rebels leading 7-0. Also, South lost their starting QB and played a freshman the rest of the game where the score got out of hand. Tenn High will win the game. But, it will not be a 45 point spread this time. I'll take the 40 points and the Rebels. Meet me in the church parking lot across from the castle at 6:30 and bring someone to hold the money. I'll be wearing a red pullover jacket. At least 100 or it's not worth my time. I will go a maximum of 500. You decide Shell. P.S. When the Vikes play Maryville in a couple of weeks, I'll return the favor and give you a few points. We'll decide exactly how many points at that time.
  17. I agree, but I'll still take the 40.
  18. I'll take South and the 40. How much? As much as you'd like. We can meet before game and you pick who holds the money. Of course, we'll all sit together as to ensure you don't run out when the game is tight in the second half...
  19. Sorry if I wasn't clear with this post. I'm saying that South's varsity this year should really be playing JV. They are starting Sophs and Juniors on their varsity team that BEAT Betsy this year. If Betsy's Varsity can't beat em this year, how do you think they'll beat em next year??
  20. South's JV this year WAS the varsity. Not to cut the JV, but it was basically Sophs and Juniors who are not on the same level as the Freshmen and Varsity players. Freshmen didn't have a close game all year including a romping of D-B. Varsity only graduates 2 impact players. So, I guess South's JV "got by" Betsy's varsity huh???
  21. South wins the conference the next 3 years in a row. They are loaded with young talent. No team in the conference has touched their freshmen the last 3 years. Sit back and watch. You heard it here first.
