  1. Is there a State All-tournment team announced after the finals of each division? If so, who made A and AA?
  2. Royal Ben Can you feel the team tightning up yet? DL is in the final four even dispite playing pretty poorly. We have the day off to recoup and you get Haywood. Winning the Region 4 tournament was sweet, but MLK losing to Haywood and DL advancing past you would be too much to handle. In one way, having two teams in District 8 in the final four would help to quite down the Memphis crowd. Good luck in the morning, you will need it. Go Stangs!!
  3. Austin East 109,David Lipscomb 108,4 Overtimes ChrisBurr55555 - We (DLHS) appreciate you thinking we can score 108 points. Go stangs!
  4. I am not sure where the David Lipscomb number comes from, but each class freshman to senior have 125 kids. Doing the math means that at DLHS we have 500 students. The 927 includes K through 12. But next year we get applied a 1.8 multiplier to our school therefore it would seem that instead of playing 5 on 5, we should be playing 9 on 5. Trust me DLHS is small!
  5. How long of a drive is it from Nashville to Walker Valley?
  6. The game is still on for 7:00 pm at Livingston Academy. Should be interesting since Doc likes to play off the crowd and so far that has been hard for him to do. Since there is no 7AA boys teams left it will be like playing in a library. LA is a nice big old gym that needs a crowd to come alive. If DL wanted MLK away from the "hood" they got it. LA is as far away as you can get it.
  7. I know that 7AA feels that they are the Mecca of high school basketball, but give me a break. Apparently there is nothing else to do in 7AA but play basketball. Our kids have lives outside of basketball and are well rounded individuals. I doubt we will see any of the girls that played last night in the WNBA, but you sure act like they are going tomorrow. I am just glad that JC feels the refs cost them the game because they would crucify the girl that might have missed a free throw in a crucial point or made a turnover at the wrong time. Let the recruiting period begin JC, maybe next year.
  8. Let's talk about the "Good sportsmanship" shown at the end of the game when the DL girl is "laying" on the floor holding the ball with one second to go and the JC girl does her best "WWF" move by jumping on her and landing an elbow to the side of her head. The game was over and there was no need to do anything. I know JC is not used to losing, but it is a part of life and how you handle defeat as well as success tells alot about a person. If you watched the DL girls carefully, they may foul the JC player but immediately pick them up, pat them and move on. I did not see any of that from the JC girls and maybe they feel they are better than their opponents. There is an old say "Win with class, lose with class". Where do they get these refs? All week long they have been horrible for both teams. Last night in the first half they called 10 fouls on DL to JC's 3 and then in the second half they called 10 fouls on JC to DL's 3. Dorris had 3 fouls in 3 minutes in the first quarter for DL. JC should be thankful that they got to play DL without their best player for a half. Dorris has lead the team in scoring for four years. McAlister is a player, but even better when Dorris is with her and visa versa. As far as all the complaining about DL's coach not getting a technical and JC's coach getting one. Please! There is a way to work the refs and then there is crossing the line. DL's coach knows where the line is. It is obvious JC's coach is a yeller. Good night. I heard a JC parent sitting by us stand up and yell at the coach to not yell at his daughter that way. He also said that he does not yell at the girls he recruits into the county and yells at the girls that were raised there. Recruit? What's that about, you are a public school and people say we recruit. Ha. Every girl on that team has been at DL for at least since the fourth grade. Now let me tell you if you can pick out talent in the fourth grade, you should be coaching at a higher level than DL. I am tired of the whinning! 7AA was not as strong this year, admit and move on. Well, got to go watch two 8AA teams play in the finals. I doubt anybody will be there but the teams playing.
  9. DL played LA at their place and they have two post players that make Brock look skinny. If GB has a problem with Brock's body, then you better get ready! They also can shoot the three. At the end of third quarter the score was 52 - 51 LA and DL went cold in the fourth quarter. LA also hit 9 (count them 9) three's that game and that was a killer. If I was GB I would worry about LA and forget DL. Last year DL finished 4th in the tournament and played the #1 seed in the east and won. So it can be done if you focus on the your game and let the rest worry about theirs. Coleman and Dorris didn't appear to be at their normal self. Brandt is a tough player always, but Greer needs some meat on him, even Mayes is 205 and runs better than Greer. Greer gets winded to easy. Good luck to 8AA. Go Stangs!
  10. I believe that if LA beats Upperman, then they will face GB in the first round of the region. GB stumbled alittle in the district, but I believe they will rest and regroup and make this a very interesting first round game. I do know that DL would like to get a first round win to get a rematch with LA in the second round. DL's guards have improved and that will help. Good luck to District 8AA in all games. Go stangs!
  11. If the lead had not been 30 points, it would have been called "a charge". Slater had camped out in the lane and #23 was not going to be denied. At least it gave the fans of EL something to cheer about.
  12. This game will depend on the DL guards. If they come out like last night and have 16 turnovers in the first half like against SC. It will be a long night. They need to respect the speed of MLK and not make lazy passes. I am looking for a better game against MLK this time. I think DL put to much pressure on itself the first time and frieked out. Good luck to DL!
  13. Station Camp plays with alot of emotion, to their positive and their negative. They don't know when to turn it on and off. Jones may have been mad at himself, but I spoke with the ref's after the game and they said they had warned him several times not to react to their calls to show them up. Latter in the game another player did the same thing. With two seconds to go, it didn't matter, but still "Control". The parents for SC were lucky to have stayed in the gym. They rode the refs like horses from the beginning of the girls game (40 point blowout, like it mattered what the refs called). I have seen alot of HS games and the way the SC parents act is nothing to be proud of. SC is a nice school and should be building their reputation, not tearing it down. SC's assistant coach apologized after the game for the players and parents behavior. That should say something. This was a must win for DL if they hope to stay in second place, with games coming up against MLK, GB and Springfield. Congrats Mustangs! Keep going.
  14. They just had a off shooting night. They all missed shots and I mean from in close. The post players were getting plenty of shots, but combined they shot 35% and that is not good from a foot from the basket. We have put that game behind us. We killed Ravenwood earlier and they returned the favor, enough said. Tonight is a new game and I look for them to rebound and do just fine. Go Stangs!
  15. Congrats to Van Buren! Special place to me since my Grandfather was the principal there for years (in the old days). Tell me about the team, record, etc. It seems the names never change there, Rigsby, Steward, Delong, etc. Glad to see them doing well.
  16. Would like to here your thoughts on the game. It starts at 8:00 and should be the big game of the week. Let's here it.
  17. I believe the play of the two big guys for DL made the difference. DL did not put both big guys under the basket at the same time. In the first half Mayes hardly got in the paint and took GB's big guy with him to the perimeter, evidenced by Brock scoring 16 in the first half. Then with GB's switch on defense in the second half, Brock went outside and Mayes scored inside. Brock and Mayes also out rebounded GB by themself. Really good game, DL hopes for a good game Tuesday against MLK. Good luck to GB at MLK the following week. Hopefully Greer will be back soon. He looked like he was in real pain.
  18. I do believe that Station Camp will win this one pretty easily. Hume-Fogg has one solid player, but the rest can be beaten. Your comment about "The Bison defense shuts people down" is a little funny to me, since they have two losses already in the district. It seems you should have said "They have the ability to ....". Don't get me wrong SC is a dangerous team and I am glad we went there and left with a win. I heard alot of SC people saying that SC didn't play well, but I think some credit is due DL for the way they played. SC's weakness, if any, is missing a good size post player to help with the rebounds. I feel that hurt them with DL and GB. Good luck to SC, remember we all shoot for MLK. Go Stangs.
  19. They do not play until January 2005.
  20. I believe that Greenbrier will win this one. SC will need to play a little more disciplined as far as going to the basket. Obviously, "00" is key for SC and he was not afraid to go to the basket. But, DL waited and took the hit and "00" spent most of the night on the bench. The lack of heighth really hurt SC against DL and I believe that GB will have that advantage also. Also, I seem to remember that dunks only count as two points and therefore are highly overrated. Points are points no matter how you get them. SC and GB, let's just remember the goal! Beat MLK!! Good luck in your game.
  21. Hey jek! Don't you have some numbers to crunch, get back to work! (Weenie)
  22. How does Patrick Turner get "Mr. Football"? I guess when you only play every other offensive play, have fewer yards and touchdowns then the other finalists that must count for something! I guess we should be glad that he has brought such fame to Middle Tennessee on the national scale that USC Trojans would want him, therefore, we hand it to him. How does the running back from Alcoa not make the finalist? Is this just for seniors? Go figure!
  23. I know SC is only 3 years old and I would suspect that as a new school with adding classes as they go will continue to grow. Is SC, at capacity, still going to be a AA school or going to AAA? SC reminds me alot of Ravenwood that has had the same guys for several years and they work well together since they have played together so long.
  24. Alcoa better hope that they have put this game out of reach by halftime, because if DL has the lead or is within reach, McAdams with make the necessary adjustments and it will be over for Alcoa. I have been going to DL games for over twenty years and I have seen it many times. Just ask Goodpasture about it this past Friday night. I do believe that all the "pretenders" are gone and we are left with the "contenders". The DL wildcard that Alcoa will have to contend with is Burton Elrod. Alcoa may be ready for Austin Rogers or a running back, but they will soon find out how slippery BE is. He can run, throw, hit, etc. He is a competitor and does not want to finish short of a championship. Should be good game, I hope so. I hate paying $7 for a one sided game.
  25. Bayron, You better watch out for "Vandy1", he wants your job or better yet, Dennis Hood's. If you still haven't figured it out, come to the basketball game Saturday and listen to him over the PA system. He will be doing play by play over the PA instead of sticking with Public Address Announcer.
