I think recruiting services help with minor sports (baseball, soccer, etc.) and for those interested in playing the major sports (football and basketball) at levels other than Division I-A. Someone counting on 'being found' by other than I-A schools is leaving a lot to chance because the smaller programs don't have the budget to go looking. And someone putting all their eggs in the I-A basket is being foolish...a great athletic experience can be had at most colleges and universities. I would think someone who is serious about playing after High School would use any means they can afford to get their name out there. The recruiting services put their names into a data base accessible to many colleges. The services will definitely generate letters from colleges. Combined with your coaches calling and a personal campaign of 'resume' sending and tapes will make for the most likely success. One caution on tapes....it is a very expensive calling card...I would suggest sending them after having made some preliminary contact because it is rare that they send them back. Good luck!

Middle Tennesse has produced a lot of great kickers in the past couple of years who are kicking at DI schools. What they all have in common is consistency and range. PAT's need to be automatic, 50 yard range on a FG needs to be routine, and kick-off hang times in the 3.80 - 3.90 second range. Also, the biggest change from High School to college is learning to place kick from the ground (there is no block used in college) and still have quick elevation on the kick to avoid being blocked by much taller and more athletic linemen in college. I am curious why BGA isn't the favorite in minds other than those of BGA fans to win II-AA. They are returning a lot from last year, especially in the skill positions.
