  1. With that many responses, maybe you should change to semi-automatic. First your boxer had tied hands, now no hands....I think you have a persecution complex. Every heard of free enterprise? GATT? NAFTA? WTO? Do you think China give a rats #### about a level playing field? I'm caught up - I deal with the above daily with a lot more at stake than a football game.
  2. Actually, it would be like telling a boxer he had to fight in his weight class with old equipment and potentially less training than the competiton. Most of us form our opinions from our own, limited experiences. So, here is what I based my statement on. I played BA 3 times. Won 1 and lost the other two by a touchdown or less despite being one of the smallest and worst funded schools in the state. I wore equipment that was 10 years old, bought my own shoes and some of my pads. Never did we have more than 25 players on our squad or more than 2-3 coaches. We played both ways for 48 minutes and game day was by far the easiest day of the week. And, you know what? I'm okay with that. Back then, it wasn't JUST about winning a state championship. Now, do you still think I'm naive and private school biased?
  3. ...and I said that was a mistake. Let's fix the problem, not just keep proliferating it! I think before we can reach consensus on whether it is working, we need to agree on what was the objective. I think the objective wasn't to level the playing field as much as it was to level the scores. I think this is wrong. I don't agree with moving the bar to artifically manipulate the results. Life's not fair - neither will be whatever classifications we use. So, lets teach "adapt and overcome" not subsidize and protect. Take away the multiplier, take away the split, take away the strategery and lets play football. Just my opinion - could be wrong.
  4. That's not a very Republican attitude. You brought up TC. Let's just run with that a little more. Let's assume Yr's 1-5 they are in the top 4 in 1A, > move up. Same thing until they hit 4A. Now they are just average. Now the reward for working harder is a paycheck of 5-5. Now, if they really perform, they can beat 50% of teams that are 400% larger. You flatter me with your belief that TC can continue to improve indefinately but I hardly believe that is realistic. But, since's it's not ALL about TC, let's consider the larger schools. Why not move the 5A dominates to DIII? then DII? Age is just another obstacle, right? If they try hard enough, I'm sure they can compete. What about the losers? Let's just meter the competition until they can win! Maybe the dogs play Jr Varsity....how bout Jr High? If you think it's hard to determine who the best teams are today, just try that model.
  5. BTW, I've participated on both sides of this issue too. For the record, I'm against the split and the multiplier....as well as a laundry list of other things not germane to this thread. DBLE-out
  6. hmmm...let me ponder that before I call you an socialist liberal....don't want to be too hasty... Okay, I'm done. My response is that by constantly moving the bar so that we can all be "average" we take away the incentive to excel. Take a look at the results of socialism. While we're at it, let's subsidize / tax individuals and corporations until all their balance sheet look the same. Would you propose that we move TC until they are 5-5? How long do you think that program would retain it's intensity? It would slowly unwind and this system would reward that decline by making the schedule easier. ...brilliant....
  7. Are you trying to level the playing field or the score? Schools with lots of advantages that don't fully utilize them are rewarded with an easier schedule. Schools that leverage every asset available are rewarded with a tougher schedule. Sounds like the federal gubmint to me. sup toofy?
  8. What's your opinion on Texas and USC this weekend? Polls and strength ratings value the spread. The game has changed.
  9. Question: If you are a lot better than someone else, shouldn't you win by more than if the teams are evenly matched? At what point should you stop playing your best? What is an acceptable margin of victory? If your point held any validity, then the rules would stipulate that the ref's stop the game - like in boxing. Get over it. It's a game. Play to win.
  10. Just you and 100,000 of your closest friends. Don't start that conspiracy theory crap again....it's been done to death.
  11. I second that notion ..... Good Luck L.A. & T.C.
  12. Not exactly on topic, but since you brought it up, I remember dodging Brentwood Academy, Gallatin, Oakland, Notre Dame, Chatt Redbank.....in the end zone, that is.......usually with 25 or less on the squad. Sure, size matters - but then again so do a lot of other factors. If I could recruit from the entire state of _____ (you insert any one you choose) do you think I could dominate Riverdale?
  13. excuse me....I've been talking all year about starting a thread at the end of the year titled "Season's stupidest quotes...." Shall I include yours?
