  1. I run a youth wrestling program in Shelby County and am looking for events in February and March in the Middle Tennessee area that I can bring some kids to . If there are any tournaments that go on pretty regularly every year around this time I'd love to know about them. Maybe we can make a couple of them. Thanks in advance. 2. I believe Hunter Badon who qualified for states last year at 160 for Dickson County will be wrestling for Arlington this coming season. If I'm not mistaken he will be a junior.
  3. Don't know if Oldblazedad is just an overly zealous fan who got ahead of himself of if he is just a prankster, either way I think the folks who were most affected are the Blackman Wrestling faithful like PBD. Don't know if they were the intended target but that's who most likely thinking,"Man, that's just not funny."
  4. Once again...not 100% sure but here are some names I recall seeing on the scoresheets: Chat East 1 East 2 I don't recall all the Memphis kids but I thing these guys where there: I know this is not everyone but I think these were most of the guys who were there. Please, I welcome corrections.Sorry for any misspellings.

  13. Yeah, a lot of vitriol spewing. Some of it quite funny. I do drop in on The Mat from time to time to see if there is a nugget about college wrestling. I prefer Wrestling Report as they tend to address things beyond "Who is the best blah blah blah out there?" or "Who would win between Gable and Schalles?" Also it can quickly degenerate into a mosh pit so to speak. Wrestling Report's college forum is better IMO but it has it's idiosyncracies as well. Wrestling Report is also more East-centric.
  14. On the ODE website they had over 500 (last time I check last night) responses. You should read more of them when you get the time. Some of them are pretty funny. If you survey fora throughout the internet (wrestling ones anyway) you will see strings on some dedicated to this article. I first read about it on Wrestling Report, but The Mat's addressed it and Intermat has a link to it as well. I just thought is was funny that his whole thesis is that essentially no one cares about wrestling -- especially him with his ax to grind -- then he gets lambasted by folks from all over the U.S. for essentially being a pencil-necked weenie. I think perhaps, ironically, most of the "off with his head!" clamor is coming from everywhere throughout the country except the Oregon University wrestling faithful.
  15. This article has the wrestling communities nationwide in a tizzy. With NCAA D1 programs falling left and right -- U of Oregon being the latest major program to get the axe -- I thought some of you might enjoy reading this young man's drivel along with many of the calm, well reasoned /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> responses he has gotten as comments. Enjoy and chime in by all means. Jeffrey Dransfeldt says sayonara to Oregon Wrestling Oh, and you will love his photo.
  16. I don't know Mr. Tuani. Does he have a preference (i.e. wrestling over football)?
  17. I have followed the Tigers this season. I made a couple of comments based on what I have observed following Arlington.
  18. Ironic that the Arlington wrestler won the region duals for Arlington with the first takedown of that match and the fact that he got pinned was irrelevant. All the extra emotion in the ensuing minutes was for naught. A very nice way for that senior Arlington class to go out since they are the inaugural wrestling squad and took their beatings the first two years. Congrats to the Tigers and Mustangs! Good luck in Clarksville.
  19. Turner is not on the Arlington High School team. He wrestles for Haywood County. He has practiced with the Arlington squad at times. Can someone please post the results of the Collierville - Houston dual? I left when the score was 31-30. Thanks in advance.
  20. Just wanted to give a haughty "Congratulations!" to the Arlington Tigers who became the top team in the North District of Regon X. The program is in its fourth year of existence and graduating its first senior class. This year they had well earned wins against Cordova, Bartlett, Germantown, and Bolton, while giving Collierville all they could handle in one dual. Coach Cordero has done a heck of a job getting that program running from scratch. Best of luck to the Tigers the rest of the way! BTW congrats to G'town on their win vs Brentwood.
  21. Gary Brownwell has created software that has been used at NCAAs and the Olympics here is his company's website: Escape Sports Tournament Software
  22. Sorry to hear about lack of a prep team. USMAPS and NAPS both have teams that travel and compete with junior colleges and D1 JV teams. They also enter open tournaments. In the last couple of years Army and Navy have been improving considerably and are both on the top 25 bubble. Navy was ranked as high as 21 last year. AFA hasn't followed suit IMO. Don't know the specific reasons but the lack of a prep team may indicate a lack of institutional committment to the wrestling program. Don't know if you've had time to think on the subject. I am just thinking aloud. By the way my son was one of the middle school kids that practiced last year at "the Dova." I helped coach them. I remember your dad would help out from time to time. I was disappointed that Katherine did not participate this year. She was a little goer for sure. I'll be rooting for you to succeed in D1. It's a challenge to say the least but you can do it. I'll be looking for your name on the falcons' wrestling website over the next few of years. Good luck!
  23. Randall, will you be wrestling on the AFAPS team? Are there any other "studs" that have been recruited by AFA that are at AFAPS? What's the low down?
  24. Thanks for the reply. I am still new to the area so I don't know the Bauckes or any other wrestling pedigrees in the region. I assume that Daniel's skills are in the same ballpark as Mr. Miller's. And I must have missed their match. Hard to track four mats when you are following specific kids. In any case it's pretty clear to me that he would more than hold his own against high school 103ers right now. Now, whether he can place in TN or IL...that argument isn't particularly interesting to me. It is a fact that freshmen have been placing in and winning state tournaments for a long time. It would make sense that, as 8th graders, these same freshmen would be good enough to place in their respective state tournaments. In fact I think that Cornell's freshman, Troy Nickerson, won the New York State Championship as an 8th grader. So the idea that elite MS wrestlers may be good enough to compete successfully at the varsity level is not open to debate IMO. I was just curious as to the young man's identity and where he was from. He was very impressive. I thought there were a number of experienced, well trained wrestlers at Bolton from a number of clubs. The Wave Club, it seemed, had more than its share of them.
