  1. as for how we did when i was in school, your right we were talented and we didn't win games and there are many ppl to blame for that. starting with me, i couldn't handle the ball well enough to keep the team under 20 turnovers. the other guards cuz they couldn't either and partically the coaching cuz we didn't work on it for ever second of every practice til we fixed it. we had an unbelieveable talented team, one which i hear mr. cherry say would probly win 18 games the year b4. so i know what it's like to be a good team with a bad record and i dont' want that to happen with this years boys. it's not very often in a small school that you get a talented team so when you do you at least like to see them live up to their full potential. and i dont' have any power over the team at all but if i did i would do anything i could to help them be a winning team, and anyone who really knows me knows that that is the truth.
  2. swanson you need to be more concerned with the beating that rbs will be taking not the one that we might get!
  3. when you decide your good enough to walk up there and make me shut up then walk up there and do it til then i'll yell for the team anyway i see fit. some of us care about how well the team does and some of us care about how individuals do. personally i would like to see the boys win 15 or 20 games not see a certain player average 30 points a game. apparently you don't care who wins though do you. and obviously you know very little about the game cuz it's not "blocking out" as you said in the rbs post it's boxing out. when you get your priorities strait about the TEAM then you can tell me something about basketball til then if you don't like my posts you don't have to read them.
  4. i never said there wouldn't be an upset. cuz it's very possible but i just dont' like counting my chickens before they hatch. and alot can happen in 32 min of basketball. and a couple of stupid decisions here and there can make a world of differnce. gl hs
  5. i'm really glad to get such a good response to a post. everyone has said the truth as far as i am concerned. if you let anyone outside the team influence you. you will have a bad team. if you have favoratism, you will have a bad team. and if you have talent and waist it you aren't much of a coach. keep the responses comeing in. i want to hear more of what makes a great or at least a good coach, cuz i'm pretty sure the team i watch doesn't have either!
  6. i was just wonderin what kinda difference a good coach can make in any team and i want to hear opinions from everywhere, can any team be good despite the coach? can a bad team be good with a good coach? or does it take a perfect combination of both to win alot of games? let's hear your opinion and in the title i meant to say make in case that didn't Make any sense
  7. no way this will be a 20 point game lately hs has been able to slow the ball down and take good shots and that will keep you in every game... it might not win it for you but it will keep you in it! i'm not goin to say hs will win but i am sayin that it's very possible especially at home this year. gl hs!!! thumb
  8. I didn't get to see monterey play very much this year but i have seen RBS play many times and they are playing some really good ball and from the age standpoint they are only goin to get better for the next few years but from the one time i saw monterey play i would have to say they are a little too athletic for the lady dawgs to handle. monterey by10
  9. with clays ball handleing ability they should be able to handle the press pretty easily and if they can slow the ball down and keep it a low scoring game like clarkrange did then they have a very good chance at taking this one away from pickett. i say clay by 5!
  10. By the time everyone gets to celina, i can guarantee that i won't be a fan of theirs cuz it will always be their school no matter who goes there. as for zone defense i didn't say that you can't win with it i just said that it's not good against a good 3 point shooting team. and there are other zones to try also. i never said he did everything wrong, but you have to admit that the boys aren't in shape at all. they rarely run and a good team has to be in shape. he has done some good things like finally getting the boys to slow the ball down so that they at least have a chance in every game even if there defense is weak cuz it will be a low scoreing game. After hearing what i heard that came out of the dressing room at half time of the trousdale game i will never like him again.......... the only way you should be able to say stuff like that to your players is if you are a state tourn type coach and i really don't think he is!!! oh yeah and i hope if they do consolidate that our best players go to rbs......... dont' be surprised!
  11. andrew can handle the ball when given the chance. and it seems to me that someone had a problem with the other coach. the team he had wasn't nearly as good as this one either so you can't really compare that now can you. either way i've stated my opinion and i'm done i am curious to see what other ppl think so don't be afraid to say what you think. this is one of the only places you can!!! and about hannahan i never said anyone else did it right i just said that we definitely done it wrong.
  12. yeah but it's the other 5% that can say what they want and most of them can do it without the credit so they can say what they really think!!!
  13. yeah i am but i have fussed about the coachin all year especially the use of the zone defense. so it's not all of a sudden and i have only briefly mentioned the way he talks to the players. i'm alot more concerned with his coaching than what he says to them. we let a player from clarkrange make 5 3's on us and we were still in a zone......... is that good coaching?
  14. see this just proves my point that you don't know much about basketball anyone who knows anything about the game can tell you that the reason that those teams were held around was not cuz of our "great d" it was cuz we finally got ball control and some patience on offense. i agree that william is a help to the team but if he really wanted to play he could have under another coach as well. and if worse come to worse we could have made it through without him we have a very good back up in andrew lewis off the bench who could have handled the ball and i think smith and birdwell in his absence could have filled in the scoring to make the difference. we need him but not at the expense of a good coach!
  15. see in my opinion if there were more ppl who cared about our boys winning and less of them careing how their hair looks or whatever the rest of the ppl in the stands seem to be doin while the game is goin on then we may have some true fans. i watch more basketball and study more basketball in a week than most ppl do in an entire season i keep up with college the nba and high school and i have seen time and time again what it takes to make a winning team and i just don't think we have it right now especially with the guy callin the shots. its just my opinion and if you don't like it then you don't have to read it just pass it and go on
  16. kaexo, your 100% right that i don't know everything but i can tell when someone is doin their best to make a basketball program better and he's definitly not!!! the boys aren't in very good shape, they haven't been taught how to play a man to man defense and it seems to me that they only play one side of the ball, and that will only win you games when the other team shoots poorly. i don't know everything but i know an awful lost about basketball. they aren't even able to do some of the basic things on defense which is a sign of poor coaching, they seem to have poor fundamental skills which is another sign, and he hasn't stressed defense at all. i know alot of the players wouldn't be playin if it wasn't for him but if they want to only give a half effort do we really need them on the floor to begin with, players who want to play will play for any coach. i would just like to see hs finally have a coach that stresses defense and fundamental skills, even if you don't have the most athletic team it will win you games. look at westmoreland over the years. that's all they do is d and fundamentals. coach graves is a genious, where's our genious cuz it certainly ain't the guy on the bench!!!!!!!!
  17. of course there is trouble when you have a coach that doesn't know anything about basketball!
  18. i was pretty satisfied with him early in year but lately i think he has gotten worse and worse and the way he talks to some of the players is awful. i can't really understand what he's sayin but from the tone of it you know it can't be good. i just hope he's not around next year. but that's only my opinion. and if he's not i would like to see larry take the job although i know that his work probly wouldn't let him it would be nice and people can dream!
  19. well after the trousdale game i have formed an even stronger opinion about the hermitage springs coach. unlike what some of you have said he does pick on some players more than others. i will not meantion any names but if you can fill them in yourself thats fine. there are some players that are able to commit large #'s of turnovers and stupid shots every night with no repremand what so ever on the other hand there are other players that can make 1 or 2 mistakes and they instantly come out of the game for a butt chewing which is completely unfair. and i am not just talking about the specific incident on tues. night. not only does he yell at his players way too much out in public but i have also heard some of the comments that he has made in the dressing room.......... refering to some of his players with vulger language and such! from what i have seen he doesn't really know all that much about the game either, i have watched this team run many inbound plays where there was not a single player designed to go to the ball. which i think should be taught in b-ball 101. this team of athletic individuals spend most of every game playing a zone defense which means 1 of 2 things ........ he either doesn't believe that they are capable of playing a man to man or he doesn't want to take the time to teach the the proper way. on offense however he has finally gotten some control over shot selection and ball control. the only reason the team is winning games this season is because of the work that was put in by the coach last season. overall i hope it's another year of change and he goes back to kentucky cuz i honestly don't think he's good for our team in many ways. but this is just my opinion so it doesn't matter anyway, take it at that!
  20. well i don't think they ran out of gas. they were scoring and playin the same throughout the game. the loss was completely due to a lack of solid defense. they held rbs to only 54 points i think and tonight that kinda defensive effort would have had them right in the game. they try entirely to hard to go for steals or to put ball pressure while so close to their man that he could walk around them. they are young and don't quite understand that playin solid defense is better than a few steals along the way. about the only time that celina scored was when one of the guards would penetrate and score or dish. unless a team is loaded down with good shooters they have to simply keep their man in front of them and make him take a tough shot! they aren't goin to win any games with the other team scorin in the 70's PLAY DEFENSE BOYS AND STOP THE PENETRATION!
  21. there are no brackets because they are doing it as pools i know that hs cchs and westmoreland are in the same pool i don't know about the other pool
  22. hs did not play well! rbs didn't have the best game ever but hs did put up a good defensive effort to hold down meador. hs only shot 26 percent from the field and alot worse from beyond the arc. this is about half as good as they shot against gville. if they had anywhere near the offensive game they have in some other games they would have handed rbs another loss. but as it stands they didn't i just hope the shots start fallin next time they play
  23. congrats to rbs on the victory. it was not a blow out the final score is a big misrepresentation of the game although rbs did maintain a decent lead it was never a very comfortable one. 9-12 points. and as for hs playin well they only shot 26 pecent for the game which is the worst of the season. they played about as good of defense as you could ask for it was just an off night for all of them and i'm anxious to see them play again. but it was a good game! and nice dunk meador, i only wish matthew had gotten his.
  24. the first half for hs was aweful and frankly while watching it i was asshamed to be an hs fan. there was no effort from any of the guards what so ever except to turn the ball over. the zone stayed on entirely to long considering that one player from clarkrange hit 6 3's in the first half. congrats to him on a great game! but i have to say in the second half they did come around to play and at least made it a somewhat respectable loss. i would also like to congradulate the cr girls on a very sportsmen like victory. unlike pickett who does run up the score they didn't even play a single starter the entire second half or press at all. now that's a respectable coach!
