  1. Congradulations to MUS...hard fought victory...u guys took advantage of South Panola's mistakes and were clearly the better coached team. Let me give you guys a little background on the South Panola coaching situation. From 2002- 2006 the South Panola coaching staff was made up of who many regard as the best coach in the history of mississippi high school football Willis Wright(got the South Panola Dynasty going in the early 90's and was the head coach of their first state championship team in '93) at defensive coordinator and who many regard as the second best coach in mississippi high school football history Ricky Woods was the head coach and handled the offense. During that stretch South Panola was 74-1 with 4 straight state championships and the year they didn't win the championship was the first year of the staff in '02 when they went 14-1 and lost in the state championship game. After the '06 season Coach Woods left(the real reason isn't known) and took a coaching job in GA. Lance Pogue came in as head coach but Willis Wright stuck around as defense coordinator for the '07 season and South Panola won another state championship mainly because of the defense and because Tigg Barksdale rushed for almost 3,000 yards that year. Last year Willis Wright left and rejoined with Ricky Woods at Northwest Community College and Pogue was on his own. From day one you could tell that things weren't going to be the same and that is why you hear a lot of people on the MS message board calling for Pogues head because we know what a good coaching staff looks like and right now we do not have one, but again congradulations to MUS.
  2. I doubt very seriously if the South Panola players will over look MUS. Let's not forget that MUS is the team with the higher national ranking according to ESPN, they are the team that won a ring last year, they are the team with the longer winning streak of the two, and they are the team who some say has the #1 dual threat QB in the entire country. This is the first game all year where I feel the South Panola players will come out focused and stay focused for the entire game. I was at the MUS/OB game last year(MUS's stadium is unreal for a high school venue) and although OB doubled MUS in total yardage and limited Brunetti(sp) to something like 20 yards passing MUS capatialized on every mistake that OB made and gutted out an impressive victory. What made it even more impressive is that OB had just knocked off Pahokee down in Florida the week prior. It's funny because i got banned from the Florida message board because i said Florida went 0-3 versus Mississippi last year when you consider that Olive Branch knocked off power Pahokee, South Panola beat 6A power Opopka, and Ole Miss was the only team that beat Florida...lol Needless to say that statement didn't sit too well with 99% of the Floridians.
  3. Hello all, i graduated from South Panola so of course i love our football team. I live in Memphis now so i've seen MUS play a couple of times so i know they have a well coached team. Tradionally South Panola has been a team that liked to have a QB, FB, and TB that each could run for 100 yards in any game but since Lance Pogue took over he's tried to have a more balanced offense with more passing. Having said that, South Panolal still likes to run the ball a lot and has an excellent senior running back in Nick Parker and another good senior running back named Dominique Carrothers. The offensive line is young but they have good size and are improving. The few times they do throw the ball it's usually to a very good junior WR named Nickalus Brassell(6'2"185) and he has very good hands with excellent speed. Defensively South Panola is very young but they have good size and is very fast. At safety they have a 9th grader named Antonio Conner(6'2"190) who was the best 8th grade athlete i had ever seen when i first saw him last year..he'll probably start for them at QB beginning next year. MUS has a very good team but South Panola hasn't lost a home game since November of '01 so it will be tough for MUS to go in there and get a victory. USP 27 MUS 14
  4. The Millintong/OB game will be interesting but the Mississippi vs. Tennessee game I wanna see this week is the Madison Central vs. Melrose game. In some polls Madison Central is rated #1 in the state of MS and Melrose always has a good team.
  5. Greetings Tennessee football fans. No, the USP doesn't stand for United States Post Office...it stands for the Univeristy of South Panola. That's what South Panola High School is called in Mississippi by some. We host MUS in a couple of weeks and the game will be shown nationally on ESPNU and i'm looking foward to it. Last year 6A power Apopka from FL visited USP for an ESPNU game and left very disappointed. I graduated from USP but i now now live in Memphis and i was able to see the MUS/Olive Branch game last year. I was impressed with the way MUS played but Olive Branch didn't play well at all in that game. Last night USP opened the season by defeating a pretty good team from south MS 38-0. The MUS QB is good but he hasn't seen anything close to the defense USP will put on the field. If any of you would like to see a preview of USP go to http://www.panolian.com and check out the football preview. Anywho..i'll be stopping back on the board from time to time...take care....
