  1. Nice comeback, the thougt that under priviledgeds kids are automatically "brought in" to help out the mighty Pirates. I would say at least 90% or more of the kids that play football for the Pirates grew up in SP and have played sports all thru school. Just make up another excuse why Jasper can' beat the Pirates....LOL.
  2. Polk does not have the overall star power they had 2 years ago, but neither does the Pirates. Polk is a very well coached team on both sides of the ball. Pirates got the late lead and the clock was their best friend forcing the Wildcats to get out of their comfort zone and throw it downfield. Great game to watch and just proud of the Pirates tonight for fighting thru fumbles and penalties to win a much needed game. With that said, they better not lay it on the ground like that going forward or it will be a very short post season. Let me ask this question, when was the last time the Pirates lost back to back games during the season? I am thinking that it had to be prior to 2007?? Possibly 2006???
  3. UncleDave hopes the Pirates have regrouped since the Boyd game last week. They did not come with their A game and it cost them 21 points in the first half. Hopefully we can somehow play better defense this week and slow down this Polk County team. History in the past few years against hard nosed running teams with a big back have not been in the Pirates favor. If the Pirates come to play they will be in the game until the final horn. If they don't, they could be in for another physical game where they get the shorter end of the stick. No prediction this week....just can't figure one out this week.
  4. Mayor, you must have forgotten about last year.....the Pirates scored at will. I was completely shocked in the outcome because of the games in 2009 and 2010. Polk was not playing well last year at this time and the Pirates were coming together well. Funny how the Polk game has been the turning point for the season the last few years....hopefully it will be this year too.
  5. Size and youth on the line hurt us against Boyd and like many have said they just seemed to be in another world Friday night. How in the world can you not get up for a game against Boyd? Or another perspective, how do you get the big head and think you can just show up and win against a quality opponent? We will see if the Pirates learned a lesson Friday night…..good fundamental football wins over talent almost every time. You can’t make mistakes against good teams. Polk is a solid team under Coach Davis and I expect them to be as physical as always. The Pirates have their work cut out for them but if they play hard and don’t make mistakes they have a chance to win this game. Stopping Miller will be a tough task but I also see Polk having issues stopping our backfield unless again we don’t block well. The O-line and D-line need to step it up now since the season is almost over. Excuses that we are young on the line don’t carry as much merit this late in the season.
  6. Us SP folks have been trying to tell you....this is the best chance the Gmen will have to knock off the Pirates. They are still a dangerous team with the speed in the backfield, but we are small on the line and play alot of young players.
  7. Tough game to watch being a Pirate fan, but the line play for the Bucs was the difference...along with the great kicker they have. We just don't have enough quality lineman to dominate on the line...or else they are taking plays off. Our backfield is solid but can't break tackles when they are meeting 3-4 guys at the line of scrimmage. Little Man ran hard and had two big runs tonight or this game would have been more embarrassing than it was. The Pirates seemed to be in another world from the beginning and the Bucs slammed the ball down their throat and smacked them in the mouth. Like someone said earlier, the Pirates could possibly lose the next two games if they don't play with more effort and discipline. Only the veteran players can turn around this team because the road does not get any easier from here. Bucs, good luck the rest of the year. Your team is solid and will be in the mix for the road to Cookeville.
  8. Pirates will be ready for this game tonight....two weeks off without getting after another team will have them fired up. Expect a good game with a playoff atmosphere. Go Pirates!!
  9. The Pirate D slowed down Signal....at least made them work for it. On the other hand, them Eagles could not corral the 3 headed monster....and I don't see Boyd doing it either.
  10. Troll, you don't give that quarterback of yours enough credit. Take him off the team and the Pirates win that game by 2-3 touchdowns. To me he is that good of a quarterback.
  11. Sorry about that....did not have any idea it was a rule, just trying to have a little fun. Anyway, the Pirates will be ready for whatever the Bucs bring to town. People keep trashing the defense and I believe this will be the game they show up to play with some reinforcements on the line. Both sides will be fired up and ready to play, but the Pirates will have more in the tank. Bucs go home with three straight losses since the Hurricane Bowl. Pirates 35 Bucs 14
  12. Tick, Tick, Tick....Bucs the beatdown is coming.....Tick, Tick, Tick.....Keep running that trap and we WILL close it for good.....Tick, Tick, Tick....1 more day till the Pirates show everyone that they are THE MOST FOCUSED team in the state this season to win it all.....Tick, Tick, Tick....Rest well Pirates because tommorrow its time to go to battle......Tick, Tick, Tick.....Like sands through a hour glass the Pirates will be running wild thru that stiff defense GO Pirates!!!!!!!!!!!! FIXED IT FOR YOU!
  13. Yep, and that game helped the Bucs make the playoffs that year. Regardless the Pirates put up one heck of a fight without their best player. Rain or shine Friday, I am ready for a good game.
  14. I'm not the one predicting a rediculous score. Nobody will hold the Pirates to 14 points in a game this year....I promise you that...and it definitely won't start with the Bucs.
  15. Against Signal Mtn, your defense would not exist either. I hope the Bucs underestimate the Pirates as you do. Defensively we have gotten better each week. They will be up to the challenge Friday night.
  16. Yep, they came out flat...no emotion...missing assignments....pretty much playing like ned and the third reader. If the Bucs were so good last year they would have pasted the Pirates in the first half. Neither team has really played anyone up to this point since no one thinks Signal is any good even though their quarterback is a solid football player. Don't think we will be seeing one that good this Friday...he is good but not that good. All in all I think it will be a good game with both teams having a different approach. Another example of coming out flat....and this is for some Pirates fans that have seen alot of football. 1994 the Pirates went to Greenback and were down 14-0 at half playing as bad as they did against the Bucs last year. 2nd half kickoff was returned by Macho Green for a touchdown and the Pirates never looked back winning big. To answer Buc55 questions, yes other teams can come out flat but most don't have the talent to make up for spotting teams a lead. Again, Ambassador does not speak for all Pirate fans. I respect Boyd but don't think they will whoop up on the Pirates like he does.
  17. Good gracious....took a few days off from CoachT since the Pirates did not have a game this week and had to read 40 pages to make sure I did not miss anything. UncleDave sees the next three games as getting the Pirates ready for the playoffs as well as determine their seeding in the playoffs....which by the way does not look good. Anyway, unless the Bucs have improved drastically since last year, I think the Pirates win this one. Last year's game the boys came out flat or that one would not have been much of a game...and really was not after halftime. One thing about it, the Pirates are going to see how they would fair in the 2A playoffs by playing two of the top ranked teams with sold Polk County in between. I like the Pirates chances.....
  18. I think last night answered whether the Pirates would be ready for the upcoming games left on the schedule and the playoffs. There is no quit in these boys and if they show up to play like they did last night and cut out the fumbles, they can play with any of these teams. You saw the defensive play much like i did....they played hard and made many more plays. The QB made the throws to win the game.
  19. Agree with you there troll....the Pirates offense is clicking. The defense is still a work in progress but I saw progress tonight even though we gave up alot of yardage. Ya'll have a great quarterback that to me made the difference tonight. He made some great throws when the Pirate defense had 3rd and long or 4th and long.
  20. Got to throw in that "lowly" comment. Some 1A competition is not up to par, but in the playoffs there are not any patsys. Who again is your team?
  21. UncleDave for one is proud of the Pirates for playing with a very talented, HUGE team. Anybody that thinks Signal is not any good is crazy. Offensively they have three solid backs including a huge fullback. The quarterback is definitely as good as advertised and made some throws tonight that you don't normally see in high school. The Pirates went toe to toe with a team that had much more size than them. Yes, they lost the game but I like our chances in the playoffs if we stay healthy. Defensively we made progress but kept giving up the big play. I will say this, the Pirates made Signal earn their points every series. Defense is still a work in progress but is slowly getting better each week. I know people will think I am crazy for saying that with the yards the Pirates gave up last night, but you also have to consider that almost the whole defense plays on offense and they never quit. Overall it was an exciting game to watch. We made mistakes and they did to and they pretty much evened out at the end....however the refs were horrible missing several calls...especially two horse collar tackles on Lankford. I like Vic's quote in the paper that he went for two to keep people from blaming our kicker for the loss if he missed that last PAT. It was the right call just maybe not the right play. If both teams can shore up defensively they can make deep runs into the playoffs. Good luck to Signal the rest of the year.
  22. Not sure what to expect in this game at all. The Pirates are capable of playing with Signal but will have to play mistake free football. Fumbles, interceptions, missed assignments, etc will do them in if they get in a shoot out. Signal has not clicked yet this season on either side of the ball but have athletes and are very capable of beating the Pirates. The Pirates don’t need to get behind by more than a td or it will totally mess up their gameplan. They are at their best in the lead and pounding the rock. If the Pirates get up by 2-3 tds early they have a chance of pulling this one out….if Signal does it could be a long night for the Pirates. Prediction: Pirates: 42 Eagles: 40
  23. He may be smarter, but he does not have anything more to work with than the Beck man. You must have a little talent to win big games like this one and Jasper just does not have it right now. From what I heard Roy, Grider gave the boys a day off since they really did not need to practice for Jasper anyway. In fact, he is planning on only practicing them on Mondays and Tuesdays the rest of the season and then letting them play Madden 2012 to prepare for their next opponent on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  24. I hate to break it to the Jasper fans, but the Pirates are not the Hixson Wildcats. The boys will be fired up and ready to take it to the purple pansies!!
