  1. I've watched a lot of Memphis high school football, and it's not going to be that easy. Fairley has the #2 defense in the Shelby Metro area. They average 106 yards per game total defense. The two losses against Whitehaven 10-0 6A and Mitchell league champs early in the season was without their star RB Marcus Holliday, who now has over 1,200 yards and 19 tds and missed the first three games. They also were without their star 6'3" LB and 6'3" 260lbs DT. They are both juniors. The last game when they loss, the newspaper stated they had 7 turnovers. They even stopped Sheffield three different series on the goal line. Holliday still ran for 220 yards in a losing efforts. Sheffield took advantage of turnovers on their side of the 20. You may win Obion, but its not going to be easy
  2. Saulsbury has done a good job,but Whitehaven has been good for YEARS. Stan Collins went to the quarterfinals twice. Hunter went to quarters as well. Harris had some great teams. Whitehaven has had a winning tradition since the 80's. Coaching is when you have a freshman who don't know how to put on a helmet but when he becomes a senior, he is a college prospect. Coaching is when you have an average player, but you develop him to overacheive. Whitehaven has over 2,000 students and over 100 players. Whitehaven has had D1 players since the 80's going to schools like Tennessee, Miami, LSU, Alabama etc.. Even had some pro players. Saulsbury great coach I don't think so. Great Manager YES.
  3. KWC I'm pretty sure Whitehaven will beat Fairley, but Fairley defense looks real good this year! I saw Fairley in a scrimmage and the Jamboree, and boy they are physical and they fly around. Fairley has been known for their defense for a while. If I'm not mistaken Coach Slocum has called the defense in the Autozone Allstar senior game the past two years, and one year he coached a shut out. But enough said, Whitehaven has two many numbers and to much depth for Fairley. Why does Fairley keep playing a 6A school like Whitehaven and they are a 4A school? Is the money that Good?
  4. I was at the scrimmage between Fairley and Southwind. Southwind didn't beat Fairley. Both teams didn't score. Both teams defense were very agressive. I asked someone why Fairley didn't run Marcus Holliday but no one would respond. I also heard he didn't run against Ridgeway in scrimmage the next day as well. I was really looking foward to seeing him run. James Harmon from Fairley caught two beautiful interceptions. He has always been a good player. Even in his Southwind middle school playing days.
  5. If I'm not mistaken, the new coach at Wooddale is Crutchfield. He use to be the head coach at Cordova some years ago, and played at University of Memphis. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. I'm not trying to start rumors, but I'm reaching out to see if it's any truth to this. I've heard from many people that Coach Slocum is stepping down this season and going into administration and the head coach from Wooddale is going to Fairley. I think he is also a graduate from Fairley. Is it any truth to this story I also heard that Sheffield head coach is being released because of new administration. Is it any truth to this story also
  7. I just discovered that it is a connection between the bulldogs and the cardinals. I didn't know that half the coaching staff at Wooddale came from Fairley. Now I understand why Wooddale has improved so fast !!! I guess Coach Slocum at Fairley is a pretty good coach. His staff left and his team still advanced to 2nd round! I assume he taught his old staff that's at Wooddale well because they are also in the 2nd round ! Good luck to both Fairley and Wooddale in the second round of the playoffs
  8. Now that Paul Cox decided to step down at the end of this year, who will be the coach in waiting??? I know that they will probably hire in house, but I wish they would give an African American a chance for that job!!! I know a lot of coaches who would probably go insane for that job. For instance, Coach Sutton at Kingsbury(University of Memphis ex-player) is a good coach that has a very calm demeanor. Coach Slocumb at Fairley has changed that program to a household name. He is very demanding and believes in discipline. Coach Crutchfield (University of Memphis ex-player)who is now an assistant at Wooddale who has helped that program do a 360 degree turn overnight. Glen Rogers assistant at MUS(University of Memphis ex-player) he has been over there for a long time, and they have won several state championships.
