  1. It was a good win for WC! Glad I got to be there for the first victory over Summertown.
  2. I figure they'll come out of the woodwork if they beat us. I expect they'll bring a big crowd. I know WC will pack the home side. The matchup will probably bring out a lot of people that don't normally come.
  3. If it's really not a competitive game this year, it won't be next year either. It might be brawl from 2019-on if we keep playing one another.
  4. Okay. That'll prolly tighten up the score this week, but we honestly looked pretty good in the 2nd half last week. And I know this game won't be approached like a typical Week 2 non-region game. This game means a lot to the players, coaches, and fans.
  5. I've been looking forward to this game for years. I'm glad I'm gonna get to go. Are we gonna have anyone back this week, or will it basically look like the 2nd half against Loretto?
  6. This is a link to an article about Summertown in the Columbia Daily Herald this weekend: http://www.columbiadailyherald.com/sports/20170817/eagles8217-rise-could-be-slowed
  7. I got to go to the game. I was real impressed with our depth. WC doesn't usually have that much. But I hate we had to use it.
  8. From what I've heard Huntingdon looks like this preseason, I think the boards will heat back up. WC threads are hurt because we haven't played in a competitive region in years and all of the old rivals have either been down for awhile or dropped us. Loretto is a good game to start the season off with. Should be interesting with a new coach over there.
  9. Sounds like a typical WC-NCS game.
  10. The regional papers have released their predictions. Tennessean: 1) Huntingdon, 2) Wayne Co., 3) Collinwood, 4) Bruceton, 5) McEwen, 6) Perry Co., 7) Middleton Jackson Sun: 1) Huntingdon, 2) Wayne Co., 3) Collinwood, 4) Bruceton, 5) Middleton, 6) McEwen, 7) Perry Co. Media has a lot of consensus on the top 4. I'm amused that the Jackson Sun thinks that Middleton will almost make the playoffs.
  11. Good. How did the linemen do in the challenge? Has there been any word about real scrimmages in the next couple of weeks?
  12. Did we play another 7-on-7 today?
  13. It looks like we did pretty good at the Titans 7-on-7 today. I saw we beat 3A Stratford 22-12 and lost to 5A Independence 20-9. Did we play any other games? Indy and Stratford are both in the preseason rankings in their classifications, so we may still be able to throw the ball a little...
  14. Good deal for USJ. Feel bad for Scotts Hill. At least they should be competitive in their region this year. That'll help the transition.
  15. Since Coach Rice became head coach for the first time in 1993, WC has went 203-84. A lot of that is the Rice qbs, but lot of it ain't. If you're asking if we'll continue going 10-0 and winning region championships every year, probably not. We went 53-4 in region play with a Rice behind center, and won 7 region titles never finishing lower than 2nd. That's hard to sustain. Having said that, we've finished first or second in the region in 16 of the last 24 seasons. That's not a bad clip, even without the Rice's. I don't think that's going to change in the next couple of years. The program's big test will be when Coach Rice and/or Crews decide to leave or stop coaching.
  16. I have several friends from Lewis Co., and I always pull for y'all as well. I think everyone is surprised that S'town and Loretto wanted games. Even though we're rivals in others sports and old rivals in football, its the first time we've played a non-region game against Loretto in 20 years. LC's regional schedule is also messed up. Finding non-region games in Weeks 9 and 11 has to be tough. Lewis Co. was a measuring stick game for WC for generations. Frustrating that we don't play anymore because it's important to both fanbases - you can tell by how quick we all are to lay the blame elsewhere. Like siblings lol. Good luck to y'all next year.
  17. I try not to be argumentative on here, but everything I said was a fact. I know for a fact that WC wanted the game. WC talked to LC early enough in the process to get it done, and we tried yet again to work it out. I didn't let your statement go by again this scheduling cycle because we all hear the same thing from LC fans over the years about their scheduling issues, particularly in regards to the Wayne Co. game. The excuses are always the same: WC already had their schedule together, we couldn't work out the dates, etc. That might be true once or twice, buts it's not true for 8 straight years. We've played over 50 times since 1950, give me a break. I'm not saying Coach Sharp is afraid of WC at all. I think he's a great coach. But it clearly isn't a priority for him or we would play. I think that's unfortunate, but let's please stop acting like WC didn't want to play (not that you said that, but it's actually been said on here before) or forces beyond LC's control prevented us from playing. I look forward to the day when we can work out these scheduling issues, and resume the rivalry.
  18. This sort of spin statement is made by an LC fan every two years and it gets old. If Lewis Co. really wanted to play Wayne Co. we would play. Our coach calls every cycle. There is always the same initial hum-hawing, "I'm not sure" from LC, so we proceed with making our schedule so that we don't have to play an "Obion Co at Bethel" game. It's clear that Sharp has little interest in playing WC. We might get to play again when he retires.
  19. Me too. I hope it lasts more than 2 years.
  20. I'd guess he was blindsided by Loretto and Summertown being willing to play us out-of-region, and was scrambling to make it happen.
