  1. These are outstanding posts so far. In addition to these posts, for those who are interested, please post if you consider this a problem today, if there is vehicle to provide high schools and middle schools studies to keep injuries down in a high growth area such as ladies sports.
  2. Every year there is a number of sports injuries in ladies basketball and for some reason when they start a number exist to the same team. I have thought for some time, that there is some consistancy based on how conditioning is done, i.e., speed in which it is done, over exercion, not warming up properly, not being consistant in warmups throughout ones career, etc. it might be interesting if there are trainers on this board, for some input be given on how the best way is to avoid injuries, knees, ankles. Every year , a great deal of time is lost just on the injury situation. I have just read that one team has lost 5 players to season ending injuries. Trainers, how do you cut down on injuries.
  3. UPS!!!! Sounds like a sandbag response. Beech has so many good players they have to have extra chairs on the bench. They will be good.
  4. What you said here is very important because you lived it personally. Understand that the thing that will bother a player most, after his high school days are over, are not those things that were accomplished but those things that were left undone. It appears to me that this team is larger than that. It will get off track some but if they will listen to Coach Harris and his direction, the undone last year might possibly be done this year. i guarantee it will not be easy but the accomplishment will be more satisfying. GO STARS
  5. Thats exactly what I thought. Really no matter what anyone thinks, the road to a District Title goes thru the defending champs of last year. It really has nothing to do with last years Seniors or signees or the exceptional job your coaches did last year. The District teams are ready to try to travel that road.
  6. The Siegel Playday was a very good success with a large crowd most of the day. While I don't have any of the scores, Hillsboro, Cookeville, Blackman, Coffee County, Siegel and St Cecilia were at the playday. Coach Bush and his staff did a great job of putting this event together. What was particularly interesting was at some games different officials called two different halves of the same game to get the players used to the way the came was called. I'm sure it helped the officials and it looked as if the teams ,having to react to the officials, benefitted from the exercise also. Great job.
  7. Thats a great post and does bring other things into perspective. My observation is that those that have already been contacted by DIV 1 already know their value and the only thing they don't know is their value if the team does not meet its goals THIS year which could effect the school they go to , etc. The bottom line is ARE THEY WINNERS as a team. Anyone can recruit a selfish individual player and they can play in podunk community college for a year, flunk out and eventually be a wisk of smoke in that great baskball court in the sky. What I see is not that senario. These are very tallented young men who have great skills above Basketball and who understand that recruiters not only look at the Basketball kills but the life skills and comittment to excellence in every facit of their life and one of those being to complete the task. That is the true worth of a person and don't think that recruiters don't think of the investment their school have to make with student/athletes in things other than just basketball. This TEAM has to do their best to Complete THE TASK and a few years down the road when they meet their ex-teammates or they look back at their press clippings, wonder what will be of the most importance. Whether someone scored a few points or whether this TEAM represented their school up to its potential. You know, the banners hung in the gym for school year accomplishments do not have players names on them. They have the records,of the team. Thats done for a reason. Coach Harris is a great Coach and he understands this very well. He has been thru everything this team will go thru. He knows, I am sure, what is important and what are just vapors. BEST OF LUCK SIEGEL.
  8. What is evident about this post is Coach Harris has done a great job with the current group of players at Siegel. Yes there have been anxious moments with a great group of players who have sometimes tried to go in a lot of different directions but somehow there was enough pure leadership and reasoning for the direction and focus to be so defined that the team remained the main focus. In many cases a team like this would have imploded. Now this is a Senior, mature team. It has a great coach. Its a team that has Division I players and a lot think can meet some very high goals. It seems, from the outside, to have gotten thru all of the things in their way during their early years to put the finishing touches on it in their Senior Year. While they will have to earn it, a lot of fans will be watching and pulling for Coach Harris and the Siegel players to bring home the gold.
  9. 0-2- She's still a great player but I want to remind you that last year you were crying about all of the problems with Oakland this year. As long as you have your coach at Oakland, they will be competitive and more. She will ride McCleary and Davis as far as she can and she will.
  10. Sorry, I mispelled a great players name from Oakland. it should have been McClary rather than McCready.
  11. It appears to me that the total District 7 will be stronger this year than last. Blackman, while rebuilding, must be watched with a new coach who has had success every year he has coached. While they are rebuilding, it is likely they will be much of a factor the last half of their year. they are likely to be in the bottom tier but will give some teams a fit with their style of play. Lebanon will have some good nights with their size but will probably be in the bottom tier. Their success will depend on their big players. Warren County will improve over last year but will have to do it with intensity as they always do. Cookeville will be good with good coaching and will contend for the top four. They too will make a run the last half of the year. White County can be very good with their outside shooting and post play. may not match up with some teams, especially on the road. Will win most of their games at home. Oakland will be very competitive with two of the best players in the District, McCready and Davis. Coaching will be extremely good. If the team can get thru 2005 with few losses, this team could be surprising. Riverdale is loaded with talent however needs to be careful of depending on Lanning too much. She sometimes can control the game. This team is one of the top two or three teams. Great coaching. Siegel has 7 starters and 2 very good role players. They have good size 5"10, 6', 6'1' and two exceptional players Jones and Parott. They have very good Coaches. Siegel seems to do best grinding it out. They are very athletic. This could be Siegels year but they have to believe it. District 7 will be a dogfight. By the end of the season, the top two teams will be contenders for the state tournament. While these are projections on my part, it would be interesting to see how they pan out come district time. Its very likely that injuries and injury recovery will play a factor in who the top teams are.
  12. That looks like a great schedule starting at 9:00.
  13. Wonder what teams will be there and is there a schedule?
  14. Word has it that Siegel is having large playday with some very good teams on Nov. 12
  15. Congrats Red Bank. You beat a very good team. Good effort Cookeville. You represented District well and we will hear from you later. Cookeville is loaded up and would probably be ready to start another season today. Best of luck.
  16. Siegel does put on a great Regional Tournament. Before a crowd of around 800 -1000 spectators or more, Cookeville, Columbia, Tullahoma and Siegel put on a great exhibition of volleyball and at the end Siegel wins and plays the loser of the Chattanooga region and Cookeville goes to Chatanooga to play the winner of that region. The two winners of those matches go to state. Siegels FAB 6 march on to the next step trying to reach their goal in this years play. Thursdays match might be the last match these girls will perform on the Siegel floor. Good luck for the rest of the year.
  17. It is obvious that Siegel volleyball would like CP to return before the end of the season. While the depth that Coach Slaughter has, has been of great help, CP, the great monster slider, is missed. She is walking now like she did brfore the sprain but athletic injuries require more than that. Keep up the rehab and if it happens to be later on, your encouragement on the bench certainly helps.
  18. While I don't have the score, The Stars beat a very good White County team tonite and Cookeville and Riverdale are in a knock/down match that must v=be very exciting. Cookeville won the first game and the second game is tied. Congrats to Coach Slaughter, a fine group of seniors, and the rest of the team for making it to tomorrows finals at 6:00. That game is extremely important for seeding at the next level. I am sure Clifford will fill in the blanks I have left out.
  19. congrats STARS for a good win over Oakland. Best of luck tomorrow nite. Strange things can happen at tournament time. Ask Ootawah.
  20. Congrats to the Siegel Stars JV team for winning District 7 JV Championship beating White county in three. This is the second year the stars won the District tournament.
  21. Good Luck to the latest generation Siegel JV team which has made great strides this year.
