  1. Good luck to all past and present pioneers. I will admit, i have not had a chance to see the current team this year and my info comes from coacht and the local paper. Based on that, things look bad, have any of you that have seen them in action noticed any improvement as this season has progressed?
  2. 35 to zip at half??? To a one win team??? Time to ask if this staff has what it takes to turn this program atound.
  3. Coach newby has a state title and took wc further than any coach past or present. But keep drinking the kool aid and hope for brighter days ahead. Im glad you see progress, us stoneaged newby lovers cant share your sunny outlook
  4. And I guarantee you there were no moore counties on newby's schedule
  5. Ok, so this is modern era football, I must be an old timer that does not have a clue how modern ball is played btw newby gave the ball to 43 because he knew they could not stop him...no need for gimics or fancy formations. they also played pretty good defense, but that doesnt count since it was stone age football.
  6. The number of coaches is a tired excuse, Bobby Newby had 3 assistants and he took them to the semi finals. Its not always quantity that counts
  7. This is coach johnson's second year right? What the heck were they doing this offseason? They do have have an offseason training program right? Some things are inexcusable, this is a clear sign that the program is again failing and needs to be reevaluated
  8. you do realize they lost to a 1A school last night
  9. Granted, give credit to Moore co. penalties reflect team discipline does anyone have that stat?
  10. Wow, just wow. I saw this game on schedule and thought there is no chance wc could lose....they found a way. Unbelievable!
  11. So you are interested in what we are witnessing on the field these days? I would like to point out two stats from last week's game against the juggernaut Cumberland County Jets WC allowed a kid to gain 345 yards rushing, WC had 17 penalties for 140 yards. Does that sounds like things are moving in the right direction? Being proud of our past does not mean we don't care about what is happening out there today. These kids deserve better, the town deserves better. The 17 penalties is the bigger of the two problems, that is simply a lack of discipline, that is inexcusable. Young or not the coaches are accountable for that.
  12. I hate to sound like "back in my day" guy...but back in my day the band was better too.
  13. Not a lot of hate...Just frustration. We lose the opener to DeKalb a school with less than half the enrollment of WC, we get blanked in the second game with mercy rule enacted during second half. I have been hearing for years that things will turn around as soon as a group of middle school kids get to the HS level. When will that happen? It seems we have devolved yet again, this is the second year of this coaching staff, shouldn't we see some improvement?
  14. That's OK, i have been called worse. I am old enough to remember when WC could compete against Riverdale, Oakland, Cookeville, etc. I know things are different now, but how could it be so bad that we cant even finish a scrimmage against Riverdale for fear that it would decimate our roster due to injuries? It's not like Riverdale is a school of 5,000 kids to pull from. The enrollments are similar. How could there be that great a difference between 11 kids from WC facing 11 kids that grew up 50 miles down the road? I know it is a combination of factors, but it seems we have this same discussion every year.
  15. I think the point should be that we are no longer a competitive sports town, at least in the big 3 boys HS programs. That has not always been the case around here, especially in the 70's and early 80's. The fact is that WC should never lose to DeKalb, no matter the circumstances. All I see in the paper is year in and year out the middle school winning games and championships, however this clearly does not translate into success at the HS level. What happens to these kids after 8th grade? Do the majority quit? Are they playing against teams that are not comparable to the competition they face in HS? Is it coaching? Strength training? Inferior youth league program? It seems to be a mystery.
  16. How did things go at the Vol Camp? Has TN offered?
  17. 1. Jeff Womack 2. Dennis Mix 3. Glenn Powers I admit I was too young to see Powers play, but from what i have heard from people who know local football he was special. From all I have heard Robinson is the real deal, out of respect to all the other great pioneers that have suited up in the past we should at least wait until he has finished his career before we crown him the greatest of all time.
  18. How long has it been since WC has had a winning season? I thought mid year would have been a good time to bring in a coach.
