  1. Actually, Howard was probably smartest for playing Cartwright 1 on 1. Because if you would have double or triple team him it would have been like the rest of the Indians season, Cartwright with 20 and 10 then everyone else in double figures. This should have ended Monday night after the game. Give them some credit my goodness. They were a good team and Cartwright is a great player. It wasn't in anyway a blowout, and when the scouting report says, Howard can't shoot, 6'9 280 lbs post. Of course you're going to clog the inside. Good luck to Howard in the tourney though. Love to see Chatt area teams in Murfreesburo.
  2. All I'm saying is do not try to take anything away from Sequatchie by saying Howard wasn't threatened by them. If that was the case it would have been a blowout. Either team would have represented well at the state tournament. Both teams played hard till the buzzer, a couple calls here and there, a couple made/missed shots and it would have been Sequatchie on top. Nothing for them to hang their heads about. Howard is a good team. But so was Sequatchie. And I believe they proved that tonight.
  3. Also, it was an 8 point game Howard had a run out in the closing seconds and shot a layup to win by ten.
  4. Howard was never threatened? It was a single digit game nearly the entire night. Take away a 23 ft. banked three pointer, and a 18 foot floater off the back board and it's a tied game going into halftime. And give Sequatchie some credit. You're acting like they was blown out. Two days ago you said Howard could defend Cartwright with one guy. He had 31 and probly close to 10 assist. And a lot of calls weren't made... 2 back court calls against howard should have been called when it was a 6 point game. Howard won fair and square. The refs missed calls both ways. You Howard fans are acting like it wasn't a close game. Howard played a great game and I hope they do good in the state tourney, but when the game was over, they knew Cartwright and Sequatchie could play ball.
  5. I hate to complain about referees. But, if you LA fans believe the refs weren't favoring your team, you're either blind or you wasn't at the game. Cartwright was rode to the basket all night. His jersey being held on drives. Being bumped in the air on jumpers. Then a touch foul would be called against Sequatchie on the perimeter. LA big men would make a nice block, then Frederick would be called for a bump on a block doing the same thing. And yes, I seen the slap too. 00 was a punk the entire night. After the play was blown dead he tried to get a bump in on someone every time. Yes, LA's big men were very good players. Strong, smooth, and physical. What's sad is Sequatchies post were called for fouls when being physical. The game would have been much better without refs at all. LA went from a 20% 3 pt team in the first half to an 80% second half. There's just nothing you can do about that. If Cartwright would have had 2 more minutes I believe the Indians would have pulled it off. In the fourth he probly scored half of his points catching fire. It was just not enough. However, I hope to see LA win, along with Sequatchie so that maybe they can meet again in Murfreesboro.
  6. I don't believe anyone is counting Smith out. The only reason to figure Seq. advances is because of the ranks and the records. Regardless of a "weak" schedule the indians have taken care of business this year. If they weren't a strong, capable team, they would've slipped up at least once. They've done exactly what they were supposed to all year. WIN. They've beaten the lesser teams handily all year. And what matters most is, they're playing good at the right time. Nobody is punching their ticket yet, just saying, the potential is there. They're a very capable state tournament team. Good size, speed, defense, and have a great leader. So good luck to Coach Smith and the Indians. Also good luck to the Sequatchie girls team. Hope to see them make a run late too.
  7. After seeing the game tonight. There's no reason why this team shouldn't be in Murfreesburo. Really the only team that has played them tight consistently was Notre Dame, and Sequatchie hung 30 on them tonight. Really impressive. Their leaders are picking it up and the role guys are doing their jobs. I think this team could shock some people. Congrats to Coach Smith and the Indian squad. Keep it up guys! This town is behind you 100 percent.
  8. Congrats to Cartwright and his team. It's a joy to watch him/them. Anyone know the record at SCHS for career points?
  9. Excited to see if the Indians can make it to the boro. I love the uptempo style of play this year. Like I said in another topic, I would love to see the Dunlap/Sequatchie County community in the Murphy Center. If they continue to play well, I believe they can do it.
  10. Sequatchies players aren't that much better than Bledsoe's players... They just have a leader who puts them in positions to succeed. Worthington is decent. But a GREAT player would have kept his team in the game regardless. The kid had 9 points, I just seen in the paper. I see a ton of athleticism... but not a great basketball player. The kid couldn't throw a grape in the ocean. And he was running his mouth the entire game. I've only seen him play 2 other times and I had respect for him, but after last night I do not. Talking trash when you're down 25 points and you haven't even dominated any aspect of the game is just plain idiotic. Sequatchie shut him, and the rest of the Bledsoe team down. Period.
  11. I was really aggravated by the way the Bledsoe team played. In a close game, and a rivalry game at that, I can understand a little trash talking. But come on #1, you're down 25 points. PLUS, as an individual you haven't dominated this game. If I was a Sequatchie player I would have just said "Number one, 10-0". And I know the Worthington kid couldn't have been in double digits, if he was it was barely. On a positive note... That's one of the biggest crowds I've ever seen in Dunlap! Way to go INDIANS! Keep it up!
  12. I agree. Hope to see a huge crowd. These games are always intense.
  13. Everyone knows there will be a huge crowd in Dunlap tomorrow for the game. Should be interesting as the #1 Indians take on Bledsoe. With Seq's recent struggles, I hope they come out and play hard and get the W in this bragging rights game.
  14. True. I don't think they believe they are untouchable. I really do not notice any over confidence in their play or attitudes when I watch. I believe they did realize what it will take to make a run this year. And also seen what they COULD be capable of. The way they've played the past couple of games I believe without a doubt they can compete with the Chattanooga area. I would love to see THIS team play McCallie again. Just to compare how far they've come. Not that Sequatchie would beat them now, but I think they would compete better than the matchup the first game of the year.
  15. A problem Sequatchie has had this season is putting people away. But lately they have had that "killer" instinct that it takes to win games deep in the post season. They have absolutely beaten the past two teams down from the tip, in every aspect, which is what they will have to do to continue winning with tougher opponents in region and a possible substate game. It's obvious their leaders (Cartwright & Frederick) will be the "keys" but the other guys have really started to click and accept their roles. This is a really fun group to watch. Keep it up Coach Smith.
