Heritage looked great. Any of these teams can win at this point. I’m interested seeing these west teams.

SS will have to beat some very good teams to get there. Tough draw for sure.

I agree with everything you just said. But want to point the one time SG beat Dyersburg it was without Cincinnati commit and region mvp Joya Crawford. She was out with an injury. The other times they played and she was in the game Dyersburg won all of them.

Never know what will happen. South Gibson has Embry who used to coach Summertown. She knocked out Clarkrange 3 or 4 years ago. I did know Crawford was out but they are still loaded. Embry is not going to get intimidated by any team up here. Just saying she liked to beat Dyersburg in the Region Championsip. South Side has the experience. Well coached. Upperman always tough. Never know in the Glass House.

As a SS alum, I'd take it. Heck there was one point in the '23-24 year that I was concerned we'd even make the region title game. But alas, we've gotten better as we've went along.

The only team I'm really worried about is Dyersburg. We've heard all year long about how good they are. Now we'll find out in the first round.

If SS gets past the first round, I like our chances to wind up in the title game.

We scrimmaged them early November. They are the real deal "when" they are dialed in. 3 D-1 players is what I hear. South Gibson upset them so they can be beat. South Side will match up with them probably better than any team all year.

  3. Hard to predict these games. I like the way our girls have played this season. We need to value the ball and protect it, hit FT's, rebound well and play good fundamental defense and we will have a shot to win. Huntingdon is a very good team. They have had some big wins this year across the state and beating a really good Dyersburg Team. We played them four times last year with the last two with big time implications and the last one a Region Semi. Will be a big challenge for us for sure. Our girls know when you get to the Glass House all games are battles so we will be ready.

Would be really surprised if Westview beats Loretto

Can't never tell what will happen up there. Loretto is playing really well right now. To be quite honest I didn't know if Loretto would beat Cheatham County much less blow them out. Westview has been lights out in the Glass House the last two years. They shoot well up there and they play that stingy defense that has been hard on us the last three years. I can make a case for every opponent winning any game. I know as a Gibson County Fan I am proud of our girls for the year we have had and getting there. Always a blessing to get there. Blessing to be healthy and alive.

It’s a shame they go head to head right off the bat.

Yep but we all knew nothing about this year would be easy. Good news is one of us from West TN is in semis right?? Congratulations on getting to the state. Good luck to you guys. I like David and Huntingdon. Maybe one of us will win it.

Whichever team can handle the defensive pressure the best will be in a good spot. I expect both teams to press all night. Going to be a really great game.

Great matchup. Going to be interesting for sure. First one to 40 wins right or 30?? Lot of defensive pressure. Whole Tournament will be interesting.

    Heritage advances

Going to be interesting. Heritage seems to be playing well. Dyersburg South Side will be a dogfight for sure. Y'all get by Greenville very possible y'all meet South Gibson who has beat Dyersburg. Then again I am speculating here so you never know.

Getting rid of Dodgen would be like some idiots(yes idiots) that want to get rid of Tennessee's coach Barnes because he's gotten beat in the sweet 16 and not made it further. Just dumb.

I like Barnes but he is the type of coach that might have DK on the bench the last part of the game because he got beat baseline on defense. Olivier scored 27 against Duke last year and barely seen the floor second half of FLA Atlantic. Can't fire the guy but man he has some weird ways in March. White County always is a good team. Hard to fire a guy that makes a deep run every year.

    These are their appearances (23): 2008, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2001, 2000, 1997, 1995, 1994, 1992, 1991, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1980, 1974, 1965, 1964, 1963. Nine consecutive trips is their longest streak.

I looked at the TSSAA records and I didn't see most consecutive appearances but I did see that the sharp shooter y'all had that graduated broke a record last year at state. Not going to try to spell her name. She went 11-12 from the field last year and is number 1 in FG% at state all time.

I’m going to say Shelbyville has this beaten by 10 or more. I know they won 17 or 18 state championships starting in the 80s if I am remembering correctly.

Shelbyville has won 12, Jackson County and Clarkrange with 8 are your top 3 in titles.

It was more the players not dodgen. Heck i could have won a state championship with this team. Anybody could have!

Gracie Dodgen his daughter?? She had 126 3's in 2020 and beat out my neice by 3 three's for most in state.

I wonder why GC didn't play mckenzie or huntingdon this season at all. The last 4 or 5 years, they've been playing them. Will make for a more interesting first game I guess.

I imagine playing your sons is not easy especially for Mrs. Wilkins. Got grandbabies in their lap where their dad's and her son's coaching a different team than your husband. Has TSSAA ever had a father son coaching against each other at state?? I do think any AA team can win it. Top bracket is tough as we know. Bottom is not a cakewalk either. We ran into East Nashville in Murfreesboro this summer and they were a very good team. So Smith County has got to be tough. We know GP is tough. Loretto is always dangerous with their length and always well coached and battle tested. Westview is the back to back state champions and these girls shoot better at the Glass House than they do at home it seems. So you never know what will happen up there. I kinda expect some of the games will probably be like the USJ games in the private sector with a lot of defense. I do congratulate and wish all teams good luck. I do feel very blessed to be there and am very thankful we are there for sure.

  12. Yep they kept grinding in close games. Played very disciplined defense and rebounded well. Made some money stops on defense with every thing on the line. Didn't lose their cool even when things looked like they might go south. Great wins for them.

What’s the better option? I ask that question seriously. Lots of people hate the blind draw, and I can understand why. I think TSSAA could save themselves a lot of headaches just by doing the draw Sunday and streaming it. But I’m not sure there’s a better option than a draw

Yeah they ought to at least show it on livestream so folks could watch it. But I think McMinn Central and York have had really bad draws the last two years. York the last three years. South Side the last three years. I honestly think TSSAA wouldn't want these matchups early to be honest. I don't think they want all these heavyweights on either side. But McMinn and York got the tough draw. South Side in AAA again. TSSAA I would bet does a live draw.

@Jaychapman what happened? Must have been bad.
I went to Loretto tonight because it was a shorter drive and I thought it would be a good game. I was wrong.

Just got a text from a Gibson County Fan that went to the game and he said Huntingdon called a Time Out down 7 with 3:49 to play. I was watching it on my phone but I couldn't see the clock. Knew it was getting late on Huntingdon. Thought they were beat.

  15. Top half is loaded. South Side with another tough draw but I won't count them out. Dyersbirg and White County both really good on the top side. Upperman Fan's real happy with theirs.

This was the worst officiated, lopsided calling that I have ever seen in my career. These officials were terrible against visiting district 7 so next year I don’t want to hear anyone from District 8 complaining about the refs come region tournament time. It’s a good thing Upperman was 30 points better than Lawrence County because otherwise it would have been grand larceny without a gun.  Why is it that refs cannot just call the game honestly?  Upperman would have won by at least 30 had they allowed our players to play in the game. They had 3 starters sitting on the bench 3 minutes into the game!  What a joke!

Humboldt Union City was real bad too.

How will Loretto/Cheatham Co be vs possible WV?

Don't know about Cheatham but Loretto is always a tough match up for any team because of their heighth. They play the match up zone, they rebound well, they can take it to the rim and they seem to throw over the top of presses. Not an easy team to play.

Gibson Female Pioneers are a storied program. Gibson Female Pioneers have one multiple titles and are the standard. Gibson Female Pioneers do not get mercy ruled. I guarantee it. Look and see. Do you want to bet me? I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

I appreciate the generosity Captain. We for sure try to do things the right way through hard work, good ethics, morals and values, and lots of respect for our opponents. But there are lots of great programs across the state for sure. We hope to be there and compete and play hard win, lose or draw. Lots of really good basketball teams in AA this year and we will for sure be blessed if we get there. I respect them all because we have lost our fair share up there too.

  19. 5 hours ago, CaptainGuru said:

That is debatable about the Westview Female Chargers and the Gibson Female Pioneers. Westview Female Chargers are a good team but Gibson Female Pioneers have a much more storied history in female basketball. I guarantee it. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

Idk I think history wise GC and WV are right there together..both got 3 gold balls Westview has 2 silver Gibson county has one. WV has 18 state tournament appearances Gibson county as of now has 17. As a Westview alumni and fan I admit Gibson county is right up there with us in terms of history and tradition in girls basketball.

Both have been very successful for sure. Would be interesting what the wins and losses vs each other would be over the years. And this going back to the upper 80's when we all were in 13 AA with Obion, Humboldt and Milan. I don't know the history of Westview in the offseason but I do know that Gibson County has played a bunch of ball in Murfreesboro, Lebanon and Nashville in the summer and early Fall for many years and have played bunches of the biggest names in girls basketball across the state especially the Upper Cumberland teams. I think when they turned Gibson County High School into two high schools it slowed us down a few years. The coaches have done an outstanding job of getting us back in the mix. Great feeder programs and keeping us playing basketball especially in the summer across the state. Both schools have a lot of history and great teams. Lots of great teams that didn't win it for various reasons: injuries, bad draws....Great to have both schools playing each other every year. I hope and pray we all stay healthy.

IMO it’s going to be UC , Humboldt, Chatt Prep, one of these will be the single A champs! Want to bet me on that Capt guru? You can have the field! :roflol:

You seen Middle College or Booker T?? I know Humboldt knocked out MASE there last year and they were all in District together some of them beating each other.

Yes, I would start out in a zone to see if they can shoot & not let them run & gun. Humboldt need to go inside & the open 3’s will come. Also, guards need to slash through zone when they double shivers or Fred take what they give is.

Yep I agree. I would start out in zone too to see how they react. No way I start out in man. Got to at least break a sweat to get under control. Can't get in foul trouble quick. We keep Fred and Shivers on the floor we will be hard to handle and yes I agree we need to slash early and often because someone will be open. Last night we were in foul trouble right out of the gate and the officials took us out of the game.

Yes, hopefully they will refocus but defense has to know where the shooters are can’t let one player score 40! I remember guarding Cannon Whitby & holding him to 16 points and most of those points came from FT line because you couldn’t touch him. Got to be discipline & stay in front of your man. UC hit about 12 or 13 three pointers got to make someone else beat you. Overall, Humboldt played a good game but made a lot of mistakes, point guard had atleast 10 turnovers by doing to much just play basic team ball. I think coach will have them refocus but Memphis will be tough to play at!!!

I remember the Cannon Whitby days and storming the court in the Region after the big win. I agree Humboldt has to settle down more and play their defense more under control. Getting out of position some and not being able to close out quick enough on their shooters. Got to be more disciplined on defense I agree. To Humboldt's defense some the kid that scored 40 can light it up with someone right it his face. Been doing it a while. Great player. Have to refocus. Middle College next. They have lost a few. If I am Humboldt I keep a zone in my back pocket  to keep them maybe more under control. Got to keep them out of foul trouble especially Moore and Shivers. Can't have them on the bench.

Humboldt and Union City may end up in the state championship this year.

Both are really good. Wasn't meant to be for Humboldt tonight. May help them refocus. Looks like Middle College for Humboldt and Booker T Washington for Union City.
