  1. your posts are entertaining
  2. Amen, no one up here is even thinking that far, at least the ones that are realistic, lol.. All I ever said was put us on a level playing field. I will take David vs David, any day, David vs Goliath gets real old, real quick. Like I said, I think it will be good for all of Sumner County .http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/sumner/2014/08/11/downturn/13933775/
  3. Didnt WC have to deal with 6A last year? I guess when you say "the biggest" benefactor you are referring to our present district. I dont really see how or why you are upset Portland is leaving your district, unless its because WC will now have to have a more formidable opponent during their homecoming games, lol seems like everyone in our district had us for at least one homecoming game in the last 5 years. IF, by your remarks, you are now comparing yourself to Portland (being the smallest school in the toughest district) I can certainly empathize with you. We have been that team since around 2004 (guessing here), hopefully, your school will grow in larger numbers, where ours did not. I do wish yall all the luck......but your other programs seem to be able to compete and win at 6A, specially in baseball. They have a great program there, and I look forward to playing them in the Spring.
  4. Dont know about biggest winner, or loser. I just know the last several years that Portland has had to compete against the schools the size of MJ, Hendersonville, WC, SC, and Lebanon, all 6A schools in a 5A district never seemed right to anyone that I know or have met in the coaching ranks. (at other schools). Im sure across the state, Portland is not the only school that will finally get to compete against schools the same size. They did not do this for just Portland. If the districts are broken down like Ive read on the net, Beech and Gallatin will still be facing schools their own size. I dont know how the top 32 thing is going to work, I just know there should be a lot more competitive games now. For us, having our neighbor White House in the same district will be awesome for that. Most all the kids know kids at both schools. Just like Beech, Hville, SC and Gallatin. For all of Sumner County, I think it was the right move. Just wished we could have had Westmoreland, East Robertson, Springfield, and Greenbrier in our district as well.
  5. Vote is in 9-0......http://tssaa.org/
  6. I know thats our case as well, most of our starters in the scrimmages have only been going for 10min or less. Course we are also limited on the number of horses in the barn and ya dont want them damaged before the season starts. I know the last few years, we have lost starters in scrimmages. I just pray we make it through 1 more Friday night. I see the preseason scrimmages as nothing more than stepping stones to the regular season. You put players in, evaluate, put more in, evaluate. Pray to God by week 0, you have it all figured out, put your best athletes out there, set your line up, and go with it. Adjust as necessary. Sometimes evaluating under scrimmage conditions is the best way for coaches to "see" what a player will do. Least thats what it should be used for. No matter the sport, preseason wins shouldnt mean squat, except for evaluating. Thats my non professional opinion, lol. but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn once.
  7. I bet your holiday dinners are just a blast to be at. Funny, my cousin played against me every year at Hville, and I at Gallatin. I never had a grudge like that lol. That alone, explains a ton to everyone, about your posts. At least your consistent lol and good luck to yall week 0. I just pray for a safe game for all the kids.
  8. Well, thats debatable. It was a weird format, each team played 10 plays on offense, then 10 on defense, then the scrimmage started with 12 min quarters, looked like most of the starters came out after the first 12 min, then 2's and 3's. Then at half it was all jv for a long time, then the last 10 min of the game the freshmen played. So in the first 10 plays, I think they were tied 7-7, then after the first qtr, I think PJ was 7 and we were 3? Then all the weirdness started lol. and JP2 scored alot against our jv. The promising part was the Freshmen group actually looked good. The starters appeared to improve from last week, now if they can just use each week as a stepping stone.....we just have a ton of kids, that havent played till this year. Time to grow up fast I reckon.
  9. NO not at all, and Im not a reporter. I got tired of having to bust my tail down the line to get in the position I wanted to because, 1. we were turning the ball over too much, and 2. the other team was scoring too much. How could I have been any more clearer. that and I am too old, fat, lazy, tired, and the sun was going down and their lights there just flat out suck to have to rush anymore, So I took a break. That is about as honest as I can be, and dont see where I said anything about speed or that I was reporting on the scrimmage, lol....wait till I see 64w95 at Church lol did he put ya up to it? LOL good luck to yall if Westy is scrimmaging tonight, we have JP2 tonight....I will "report" back later LOL
  10. Yepper, this is correct as well. As I take the photos for the team, I always try and get the shot with offense running at me.....last couple of drives, I didnt move.....even sat down one time on the picnic table, my legs were wore out lol
  11. Your last sentence is THE most important thing to come out of any preseason scrimmage, specially the last 2 words.
  12. They did, and thanks for the compliments to our kids. Yes we were beat in every facet of the game....except our punter did an outstanding job. Coach Cav stated as such in the local paper. http://www.portlandleader.net/articles/2014/08/08/sports/28988974.txt .....course Posty is doing what he does best lol no harm no foul.
  13. Could not agree more....and when looking at the realignment, we already have good rivalry's with some of those schools, which would make for more "excitement" for our players as well. No offense is taken, 99% of the parents in Portland feel the same way. Most of them ( I was not born there) would love to see the same teams they played against as well.
  14. Yes he was, the kid we had going against him said before the game, "guys I will do what I can, but I will apologize now" lol. Love the attitude the kids have got, they know each game they go out there they have a up hill fight. I pray we get to move down to 4a next year if the realignment goes through. Not that alone will make us have a winning season, but, it would make it a level playing field for the kids. But, its been this way in Portland since getting moved out of 3a a decade ago. It is what it is.
  15. We played them last week, and lets just say it wasnt pretty. We made several, several mistakes (fumbles, ints, missed coverages, etc) so we did not play perfect football at all. But they are big and fast. We are also a very inexperienced team this year as well. I pray for our coaches sanity lol. But, having said that, the attitude of our players were great. If you look at my photos on fb, you will see how much bigger they were than us, the kids ran into a buzz saw. Good luck! We have PJP this Friday night.
  16. Portland at Hillsboro 8-1 JP2 at Portland 8-8 Portland at Franklin-Simpson 8-15
  17. This post nails it. Most people in general, even in baseball do not know how to score a ball game right. Ive kept stats for Portland the last 2 years. Im also a "volunteer coach" so I sit on a bucket right beside the head coach. (when we are on defense, he coaches third while we are hitting) but, our system, I score the game, if there are any "close" or "questionable" calls, we will either talk about it then, or normally after the game. Just so there are no questions from anyone (since I have a son playing) I guess Ive been around baseball since I was 7 and just thought most people understood the game, ( I still look up rules, even during a game to be right lol) but Ive noticed at the places we play by watching the scoreboard there are a LOT of bad "scorers" out there. Stolen base given when its a wild pitch, hits on FC's. hits ruled as errors just to keep the "home" team from giving up so many hits, it goes on and on. Ive been accused by some parents as scoring too harshly, but, Im sorry a ball between the legs of a fielder is an error, or Im sorry your son left the bases loaded when we pulled him, but those are still his 3 runs he gave up. BUT, by me doing this, it has caused our players to ask more questions, which leads to more answers, which leads to them LEARNING the game. We are limited in the physical department, we are a small school, but, at least our players are learning the game the way it should be...but even umpires dont know how to score a ball game half the time and that is the most aggravating thing of all. lol
  18. Hope everyone made it through their 7 on 7's without injury. Now the real work begins. Here is how we fared (any of these can be totally wrong, the way the coaches give back and tack td's its hard to keep up, and I dont even know at the end if any coach on any team knows who won or lost, or even care, they are just trying to get work in.) But saying all that, here is what I had while taking photos: Team/Portland outcome JP2-WON TROUSDALE COUNTY-WON FRANKLIN COUNTY-WON GREENBRIER-LOST OR TIED WHITE COUNTY-WON OR TIED DAVIDSON ACADEMY-WON TROUSDALE COUNTY-LOST SMYRNA BULLDOGS-WON MURF. RIVERDALE-LOST (BY FAR THE BEST TEAM WE PLAYED) RED BOILING SPRINGS-WON EZELL-HARDING-WON LIVINGSTON ACADEMY-LOST JP2-WON DEKALB COUNTY-WON WATERTOWN-LOST MOORE COUNTY-TIED GORDONSVILLE-TIED PAGE-WON CUMBERLAND COUNTY-WON Now, we have Hillsborough, JP2, Franklin-Simpson scrimmages left before the opener at Westmoreland. Just pray we start the season healthy, and play healthy. Good luck to everyone and I pray for safe play............even in 7 on 7. IF the question every comes up why they wear helmets, it was apparent today when we had 2 kids go face to face on a pace over the middle. Thank the Lord they got up. Quite the collision.
  19. Going 0-10 last year, I really cant recall any of the players being embarrassed or feeling embarrassed over any loss in particular. Doesnt matter if you lose to a 1a school or 7a, a loss is a loss. They hurt and suck equally well. Ive taught my son that it doesnt matter who the opponent is, as long as you leave it all on the field, no matter the outcome. Ya did your best, and sometimes, in life doing your best just isnt good enough. Get used to it. Thats life. Nothing embarrassing about giving it your all...............now if you dont give it your all, you deserve to lose and I dont want to hear a word about it, thats just how I raised him, and coach. (all I do in football is take photos)
  20. Right, we are very inexperienced in that position along with only 2 returning starters on both sides of the line. The coaches have their work cut out for them. I feel for them.
  21. LOL that is just, well, wrong, lol............I hope I got the wins right, it was hard keeping up. They have played JP2(won) Trousdale County (won) Franklin County (won) Greenbrier Lost or tied, White County Tied? and Davidson Academy, though the younger guys mostly played this game. I dont know the outcome. They still have Trousdale County, Monterey at Putnam County left then scrimmages against Hillsburo, JP2, and Franklin Simpson before the opener at Westmoreland.
  22. Amen, Corey has been outstanding to the community and specially the kids, but, this is also a kid that wasnt handed everything in life and his parents had him working the farms, earning his way. Sad his Dad passed away a while back I believe. I thought it was great last year they let Geralds younger brother wear his 42 for the season. People can say what they want about Portland, I love it here. Closest thing to Mayberry I have ever found, Im fortunate my wife was born here. We, just have a hard time in all athletics due to our size. I for one pray we get to move in the reclassification by my sons Senior year (2016). Thanks Gwave for the kind words........................ I will never forget being in the Dollar store and Mrs. Brewer was in front of me, it was right after his draft and signing, and she was saying "dont yall worry, that money aint going to change my baby"....as far as I know and can tell, it hasnt. Thats what people need to understand, it all starts with the PARENTS. Raise them right, they will live right. Sure they will make mistakes, we all do, BUT, they will find their way back to the right path. Thanks again.
  23. LOL we just may be now, but I wouldnt trust Wikipedia anymore than Id trust half the coacht posts lol ............however that being said, this thread was started with what i feel was just in humor. Anyone on coach t long, knows Posty from Westmoreland and the stuff he stirs. It is however meant for adults. I just have a problem when anyone makes a condescending remark about ones race, religion or upbringing. Thats going too far. I also will never, ever, appreciate a post that is derogatory towards ANY player. They are 18 or younger and in my opinion still a kid. The coaches are big boys, say what ever ya want. Naming a kid is off limits unless it is positive in nature. Now back to the thread.....carry on and good luck to everyone through the summer and passing leagues..............and if we lose to Westy our opening game, I expect Postal to be in full bloom, lol. Now, everyone shake and play nice. lol
  24. Thanks for the support, but enough of them have read his posts before to take him with a grain of salt. lol We start the season with his team. Its all in good fun. No......and what does someones religion have to do with high school football, this was a more classless statement than the original post. ....and SS was close on the towns population, I think the last census had us at a little over 8,000. May be near 10,000 by now. Yes they did, including a Mr Football award recipient, the young man was tragically killed in a car accident while in college. Here is a highlight film of the young man, and his younger brother just graduated last year and wore his retired number. We were not living in Portland then, but, from what I hear he was quite the athlete. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysJg5gnhe-c
