  1. Im not a Central fan but was at the game Friday. They tried to throw about 10 times. The qb either got sacked, took off and ran, or made a bad throw. I think he completed one in the flat. Teams that dont have a good o-line run the veer because it gives the offense a chance if the defense guesses wrong, i.e. a few of the runs number 7 had and a few gives up the middle. If you are a coach, you would have seen while the option was the main attack, they did vary formations and mixed in other runs and passes. As far as the punt thing, you are wrong, NO ONE uses their O line to cover on punts...maybe d linemen, but mostly linebackers and skill players. You need people that tackle. Another thing, coach, if the dbs are 10 yards off the ball, it isnt because they are expecting run, they are trying not to get beat deep. I did see on the passes they attempted, they had people running wide open if the o line could have given the qb any time. Sounds like they need an o line coach. I nominate Ballcoach93
  2. Meigs got beat by 1 player, lol. The qb from greenback that transferred from Alcoa threw 2 tds and ran 2. If he was 2nd string at Alcoa, I dont even want to see their first string qb. The kid looked like a man among boys. Meigs had more yards and time of possesion, but 4 turnovers that all led to scores both directly and indirectly. Ill be interested to see how they come out in week two. That'll tell me if they are improved or not.
  3. I believe the qb threw 2 tds and ran for 2, Greenback had 35 points, he accounted for 28. I don't know how many yards he threw for, but the two tds alone made up 90. A lot of drives were stopped but that kid, broke away from 2 and 3 of meigs players and turned a broken play into a big play. He was BY FAR the difference. As far as Meigs qb, Ive seen him play better, this was not his best game, and we definitely cant blame it on the receivers, when the ball was overthrown several times way over the receivers head. I think he was just excited, probably with it being his first game at qb since being a freshman. He almost connected on one deep ball but was probably 3 yards too far. That was the prettiest ball of the night though, and then a receiver almost made a nice 1 handed catch on another one. Other than that, he was just off. He will recover, I have faith. The jitters should be gone! Overall, meigs just came out flat like they expected to win just by showing up, and when they were ready to play, it was too late. Two momentum breakers broke the comeback. The player that took the ball away from the qb while he was fighting for extra yards on a drive that would have cut into the lead, and the lightning delay after meigs scored and then defense went three and out and meigs started driving in the second half before the delay. Good luck to meigs down the road though, there is still time to regroup, and I think the qb will too.
  4. They seemed to be much improved. If Rockwood was the first scrimmage, they lost 1td to none with the #1's in. The second scrimmage, I guess was midway if Im right, they tied(I think 2-2). I don't know how they did in the 3rd scrimmage. I think it was Coafield. As far as where they will finish, Im hoping 2nd or 3rd, but I didnt see the 3rd scrimmage to know if they continued to get better.
  5. How does Meigs look going into season? I saw two scrimmages and looks like they have gotten considerably better. Anyone seeing practices and the last scrimmage with opinions?
  6. Keyword you said is "if" coach was there. We are talking about kids throwing and running routes on their own after conditioning. They can do that at anytime even during the dead period.
  7. The dead period just started Monday, so this is the first full week of the dead period. Before that, teams could lift weights and condition as long as its open to other sports also. If during the conditioning, the kids are running routes and trying to get ahead on this new offense, then great! They can even get together on their own over the dead period. (which I hope they are) I saw the kids throwing the ball around last week, and it did look good, "no balls on the ground". Before we jump to rules violations though, let's know the situation, the time period (dead period just started), and the rules.
  8. I do admit we havent had the best of luck with longevity with coaches, BUT it cuts both ways. We have had coaches to leave for various reasons, and we as a community have to do a better job of understanding the situations. Sometimes the talent well does run dry for a spell and we tend to turn on the coach for not continually winning. We need to be better at understanding when we are young or rebuilding and be a part of that process and stick by the coach during the good and bad. I know this much about our community though, we support our team and our kids number one! So if Jones takes care of our kids and we win also, he will have a home for a long time.
  9. NBC, I dont speak for the whole community, but for me and everyone i have spoken to that has met the coach and been around practices so far, they like the direction. Im sure you will be the very last person to jump on board no matter what. As far as throwingforsix, you say you know Jones track record. Maybe you know something I don't know and can enlighten me and everybody else on here. Looking at his history, he has been a head coach once, so no jumping around every 3 or 4 years. And it doesnt look like looking elsewhere was the problem when he was the head coach. He didnt take another coaching job, he moved to Texas. Maybe there is more than what is being written or said about him that you know personally. You say you don't know him, but you know his track record. Give us the record please, because we are definitely missing something! Meigs hasnt always been a bottom feeder and we wont continue to be. We will prove people like you wrong. I speak for many saying we will back Coach Jones and these kids and I personally believe we will get to where we need to be under his watch!
  10. For someone with no dog in this fight, you sound like you know Jones pretty well. Atleast from the sound of your post. I don't see anything in his history that suggests he is going to jump from job to job, and by all accounts he is looking for a house in the county and would like to make this his home. If you are talking about coaches in general, then I understand your frustration with coaches leaving other programs, but for our sake, I think this guy is trying to find a home here in Meigs, and we will do whatever it takes to make him feel at home. I guess you can post what you said about every school that hires a coach in high school or college, but as far as the one we have right now, we believe in him and he has the full support of our community. Thanks for your concern, but I believe we have found a coach in Jones and he has found a home in Meigs!
  11. NBC, you sound like you are VERY close to coach Holiday and have a lot of INSIDE information that the rest of us didnt know. So, Ill believe you that Holiday will get his chances elsewhere, and maybe that is a move he should consider if there is all that politics involved. Politics, I dont know personally if that's what's keeping him out of the head coaching job there, but if he, or you feel that way, I would definitely explore other options. Cause if there is politics involved, he will never get his chance, that you and he both believe he deserves. My advice for him and maybe you can pass this on, because it sounds like you do know him well, is to jump in with this coach and do whatever is needed, (whether it is defensive coordinator or just concentrating on the defensive line) and create a winner, because your star shines a whole lot brighter when you have some victories under your belt! Then Id look outside of the politics and let my record speak for itself!
  12. I do think that Jones will need to keep both Holiday and Harris in big roles because they have been there with these kids and dealing with the community. I dont think he should do anything that compromises his system or his intensity for the game. Just from listening to him, I know he likes to blitz and disrupt plays on defense, and defense is his thing, so he may have more of a hand in that. But offensively and bringing in the new offense, he will probably have a huge hand in that too. I hope he is still bringing in some assistants that know his system and can teach it to the coaches and players in a relatively short time. GOOD LUCK to the program and GO TIGERS!!
  13. I wasnt being sarcastic in saying I was glad he got an interview. Alot of the criticism on Baker was that he wasnt giving Holiday a chance, or an interview. He saw what he needed to see obviously in Spring Practice and also through an interview and made a different decision. I met Coach Jones along with the players the other day and it was a breath of fresh air. I think if he can get things done his way, he has a good vision for the boys. Now that a new coach is hired, are we ready to support him 100%? or does he have to treat Holiday with kid gloves since some people thought he should have been the head coach?
  14. Well I feel better, atleast Holiday got his interview. That's all any coach can ask for. Jones coached at Chatt Central a few years ago.
  15. Coach Jones is the new head coach's name. (sorry not sure on first name)
