  1. Large School...Science Hill and Jefferson County at the top of the food chain...with Dobyns-Bennett, Seymour and David Crockett close behind. Small School...Probably Pigeon Forge...Greeneville should be back up after a down year but they will start slow because of getting fb players so late.
  2. Greendevils...your comment about #54 was way out of line. There has been a lot of talk about the Maplewood coaching staff as well. I thought the old guy calling defense did a good job. As far as offense...there must have been some pressure to play #26 because I think it was obvious to everyone at the game that #20 was killing us. The passing was certainly questionable. Greeneville has one of the best staffs assembled right now that I can recall on this level. 11 guys, all with college ball experience (10 in football 1 in baseball) and one previous Mr Football. I think this is one of the strongest points in GHS favor going into this championship. Oh by the way, I thought the Maplewood announcer was great!
  3. There is usually some shock when you go against a really fast team. Your scout squad during the week can't give you a good picture of the other team's speed...so there is a gametime adjustment. Field conditions cancelled both team's speed a little at Maplewood and Maplewood's up front people were better than we've seen this year. #60 was an animal! We can't come out this Sat. and start the second half with two consecutive penalties on offense either. My prediction, GHS weather's the storm in the first half and goes in at half-time close... but with adjustments made and a lot of THS players going both ways GHS pulls away in the second half and wins by two touchdowns.Go Devils.
  4. Someone from Bristol might be offended with that comment...I don't know what the situation was playoff wise before 72. But Bristol (Tennessee High) had back to back state championships in 72 and 73 with an Associated Press National Championship in 72 ..winning the State championship game 52-0. Morristown won it in 1969 while there was still only one Morristown school no East or West. Someone check my facts because I'm just going from memory. What was the state playoff system prior to '72? I remember in the 70's some sort of point system to qualify. Someone give us some facts.
  5. I have to agree with Volunteer fan on this one Bud. That first drive fumble was on a fake to Hibbett with the intention of handing off to the wing back coming around. The QB lost the ball when it hit Hibbett's hip. I wish we could designate those sort of turnovers as fumbles and the ones caused by defense as take-aways or forced fumbles or something so the stat would give credit where it's due.
  6. EHS Cyclones...don't doubt for a second that you deserve to be where you are! You've earned the right to be in the semi's....Yes you are one of the top 4 3-A schools in the state!! Good luck and Play hard! Gooooo Cyclones!!
  7. Sensible and well spoken.....Go Hard GHS and good luck!
  8. Thanks jchs! By the way you have met Kev-O and Noonesfool before ...I think you know that. But I don't think they know that. Wish I could hang around and hit the Cracker Barrel with ya' after the game! Go Greenedevils!
  9. Yes, Maplewood...please, please throw deep on GHS.
  10. I'm not sure because I haven't been doing this very long. I made a joke about one of his posts.. I used no profanity and no inuendos and now there is a "warn status" on my profile! What does that mean?
  11. I don't think so either...but that's one of the purposes of my post ...to always keep that goal right in front of their eyes...and be a reminder of how to get there...instead of so many posts that already have them there! Go GreeneDevils!!
  12. "...and if you do we'll have close to that."??!! That is going to be something to see! Gibbs come in and score more than the last 6 teams combined! Go GHS!!! And as far as Slaw's post is concerned...you do notice that it has been yanked!
  13. Yes they are paid and paid well! I understand their executive board held their annual meeting in Hawaii this year! ...For the most part they do a pretty good job and they probably do more investigating than we realize. But sometimes their decisions are really hard to swallow and not in the best interest of the athlete as a person...but that only makes up a small percentage of the cases.
  14. On a punt a ball touched and left by the receiving team can be picked up and advanced as long as the whistle has not been blown.
  15. I think for anyone to look past Maplewood is a big mistake! Greeneville can beat them but not if they are looking past them. They are big, fast, athletic and well coached.
  16. Prediction....close game! Go Cyclones!!
  17. The whole concept of "openzoning" as an advantage is kind of ridiculous. In a sense every school system in Tennessee is openzoned...Consider the following FAPE ..law that says every child is entitled to a Free and Appropriate Public Education within their district.. meaning no tuition and free transportation If a parent wants their child to go to another school system out side their district then 1)They must pay tuition 2) They must provide their own transport and 3) The school system can deny admittance for whatever reason. (Usually discipline problems, failure to pay tuition or overcrowding) The only true openzoned schools would be several High schools in the same district and you can go to whichever one you want with guaranteed admittance and no tuition. Imagine trying to workout that transportation! the TSSAA knows this.. so they have eligibility criteria set up to keep kids from jumping from school to school as they wish. Number one is to be eligible in a new school there must be a change of residence. In Greeneville's Case it is the only High School in the system. The county schools are in a separate schools system and must pay tuition and provide transportation and be accepted to attend GHS. If a student lives in the city limits (he technically lives in Greene Co.) so he can go to County schools free. I'm pretty sure about of my facts because all 5 of my kids went to GCSchools and we paid $1000 perchild per year for all 5. Because of the overall benefits. Better Educ. standards, Better muscic programs and better sports offerings. If you're complaining about us having good athletes because of zoning then you are complaining about parents working extra and paying extra to give their kids something extra.
  18. Make that 4 teams in Cookeville (include Greeneville) Go Cyclones, Go Greenedevils, Go Indians..and GO TRAILBLAZERS!!!
  19. Wish I could be there, Go NETenn teams ROLL TRIBE ROLL!!
  20. Now that the chant is gone.... GO CYCLONES!!!
  21. QUOTE FOR THE DAY A couple of weeks ago I ran into Coach O'Dell..former GHS coach for many years...and I asked him what he thought about GHS this year. He said they are too predictable, I asked him what he meant, He said everytime they have the ball they score! Be safe Falcons on your travel up...welcome to a little town that loves their football..looking forward to a great game, great athletes, good coaching, and good weather. (hopefully good officiating) GO GREENEDEVILS!!
  22. I've watched and coached against Daniel Boone teams for years. I've seen them get beat but rarely have I seen them "shell-shocked". They block well they tackle well and they rarely make mistakes...That keeps them in games even against superior talent. Go Trailblazers!!
  23. I'd love to watch this one...but I'll be at the Greeneville Fulton game. I've seen the Indians play and they're better (attitude and talent) than they've been in recent years. Haven't seen Bearden and all you hear about is Young...Do they have other strengths or standouts? Several are mentioned in the previous post are there others to watch? Go Indians!
  24. And I didn't say you did..I was responding to several posts in that particular reply. I still haven't had an answer to the question ..How is the Falcon kicking game? And for those looking for a common opponent...the only one is Red Bank last year and digging up last year doesn't solve anything. I realize this is going to be a test and it may come down to who breaks first. I know the GHS routine and how hard they are worked and challenged during practice and workouts ..even if they aren't challenged on Friday night conf. games. But! I don't know anything about Fulton's practices and workouts so I can't make a comparison there. I'm still picking and pulling for GHS.
