  1. Let me break about your post. Being a fan that loves the sports is part of the Cherokee program as well. Don't forget parents are not the only ones that post. I agree with you, injuries are a factor....now...they weren't earlier in the season. That's why I suspect McMinn will only win 1 more, and that could be a toss up. I also agree there are WAY too many individuals instead of a "team". When you have a kid that thinks he has been the "star" his whole life then enters the high school world, it's a different story. And then you have the ones that coaches think "will win the game", they rely too much on certain players....so it goes both ways. Any "FAN" that tells these boys are they awful is NO FAN. From where I sit it seems these boys have tons of talent that is not being excuted properly. Age can have a factor in it, but it's not the main problem. The main problem is respect. You have to give it to get it, and it appears these coaches have not earned the respect of their players. That in turn affects the lack of disicpline. Which affects the game. Penality after penality is a form of disicpline, bad snap after bad snap is a form of disicpline. People need to wake up and admit those 2 problems are out there and it will never be fixed until it is recognized. Let's just see how far can a coach go without respect and discipline. And I'm not just complaining about the "backs" as you say, I'm complaining about a lot of stuff. I have mentioned the backs several times because that's what the head coach and the paper and the radio all talk about...how the running game is struggling...well, if he would get his 2 strongest ones out there that may benefit the whole TEAM!! My concern or "negativity" is shared by MANY others in the community as well. And last, who said I had a son on the team? For that matter, who said I even had a son in high school? You need to realize the program is suffering and there are people that are worried about it. Not just "parents that are mad cause their kid aint playing". I know some of them to. Happens every year.
  2. Well, another night of terrible McMinn County football. Bradley was without doubt the better team, they man handled McMinn all night. That being said, McMinn looked awful yet again. The players appeared to have no idea where to go, who was subbing in and out, and to be honest Coach looked confused himself. He seems to be grasping at straws. Not one time the first half did he have his 2 best backs in at the same time. The OL is so young and inexperienced that 2 strong backs could help them protect. Pretty sure we will not see any improvement the rest of the year. The Tribe played well against Central & McCallie, I dare to say if they played them now both teams would leave with a win...Congrats to Bradley...this victory was well deserved.
  3. Our kicker/punter is not that bad. It's the snapper that can't get the ball to him. By the time he scrammbles for the ball and tries to get the kick off, he has defenders in his face.
  4. The team that played McCallie and somewhat Cleveland is NOT the same team that played Cookville. They looked terrible. Cookville is not even a very good team. Against Rhea County they look confused and not ready. They seem to be taking steps backward. A win at McCallie would still render this conversation simply because they aren't looking any better than early in the season. Their schedule is tough, but mistakes have been made by players and coaches that have cost them several games. McMinn has the talent to be 5-1 right now.
  5. Anybody want to chime in and give their opinion? I understand they have young players, but they are not improving at all. They are looking worse each week. There is confusion on the field and no respect/discipline. So many obvious things that are being "unseen" by the ones that make the calls.
  6. "Assessment"...sorry. Didn't notice I guess because I was concerned more with football. You just want to fuss with someone. Hate to disappoint, but that's not this "NON McMinn-Countian" is here for. Wanna talk sports??? I'm game.
  7. Your accessment of McMinn players is not too far off. Roberts is the kicker, Gill is just filling in due to Roberts injury. However, their special teams is struggling across the board period. Kimpson and Starr are great. Starr has made some key plays SEVERAL times. He is nursing a hurt ankle, but will be fine Friday. He's an ox. Simpson's size fools some people, he is a phenominal player. McBee has potential but has done nothing so far this year. He may explode Friday, but thus far, he hasn't. Powers carries most of the time but overall performance is not that of Abernathy and Plaster. They are your 2 best backs. Massingale also may see playing time Friday as a back. He is strong and big, but nursing a turf toe injury. The OL is growing, but they lost a Senior this week, not sure how that will affect overall moral. A lot on the line this week for both teams.
  8. Can you guys start another thread to argue on, let's talk RC/McMinn football on this on.
  9. Quote from the Cleveland Banner... “He’s done. It was sticking out of his skin,†said a dejected Slaughter about the damage. Early reports indicated a compound fracture and dislocation of the index finger. Read more: Cleveland Daily Banner - Difficulties piling up for Raiders
  10. You must not realize the week the Cherokees have had. McMinn has had more fighting and questioning of coaching than ever before in Coach Cagle's tenure. Sounds to me McMinn and RC have gotten a bowl of the same soup. Before last Friday night I would have said McMinn was one of the best 1-3 teams in the state. After watching the Cookville game, unless major changes are done ON and OFF the field, I dare to say they will win 3 more games. The Cookville game proved there is trouble on the horizon. The coaching suffered,(a lot of) the players have no disicpline, no respect, and parents are angry. Their QB is hurt and their only "motivating" coach is in the press box. Why that is, God only knows. They have lost 2 biggies in the last seconds of the game. Their OL is young, and a vetern was dismissed this week. Against Cookville McMinn had 80 yards in penalities. They have faced so much adversity this year and I just don't know at this point if they are strong enough and mature enough to bounce back. They are young and discouraged. My hope is that they will come out Friday on a mission and make a bold statement. Not only do they need to win, but they need to win by having a good game.
  11. I know that. I was just showing an example of "why do that" just as I was wondering "why put a hurt player in"? You said they trust him. My response was to that statement. So now my question is in response the you bringing up the trust thing "How do they not trust the backs when stats show great numbers?" Per the DPA "McMinn had 281 yards rushing, led by Simbeck's 100. Plaster added 76 on just five carries; Powers 51 on 13 attempts and Abernathy 30 on eight rushes". Focus now has to be on Cookville.
  12. McMinn's backs had 257 yards rushing. Surely they can "trust" them.
  13. I agree, the Rebels will remember the 'kees. They are young but tough. Will they be tough enough for M'ville? I sure hope so. I believe the Tribe will surprise the Rebels. Drew Massingale, QB, is big...he is a great runner and can throw. He has solid RBs and WRs on his offense. The defense is led by Dorian Simpson, Alex Vinroe, Dylan Plaster, and Devin Abernathy. Should be a great game.
  14. Kris Harris was a McMinn County player...a good one. Here's a link...I hate the music though!
