Unfortunately officials are not accountable to much of anyone. The best officials are those who take a "back seat" and let the players play. I think that some refs are to quick to make calls, and by then its to late to retract a bad call. Some refs look to be the "center of attention". The best refs are the ones who maintain control, but you barely no they are there. Most high school refs are pretty darn good and fair these days. A few wrotten apples unfortunately leave a sour taste in most of our mouths. I say let the "kids play" Knoxville

I agree. If one looks only at win loss record they may be counted out, but they are the type of team that could go all the way. They will probably be a force to contend with along the way. Well coached team with some real talent. Defense may be the big question. Eakins is the real deal.

No mention of defense which in my book is the key. I would say in the games I watched this year he is better than average as a defender.

Amazing the lack of response indicates people are more interested in "points scored" than the complete game. Maybe no one notices good defensive players enough to take note??????????????/

Good choice, especially if they get their two suspended players back? do you think they will be coming back soon or never? I have heard of a few other teams suspending players as well and other coaches who fail to reprimend.

Good point......I was not talking about the OR coach specifically when I mentioned this. You are entitled to your opinion. My comment was meant in general....I cannot see someone's motives. I can only see the results of such lack on the part of coaches and I think that is significant. Case closed too!

Don't go just by the record. They were in most of those losses and Winder is awesome....

Good choice.....May be the most under-rated coach and most under-rated team (Morristown East) in East Tennessee? Morristown East may be more loaded than people think, and young too! Greenville thumped them, but otherwise they look solid. Greenville may have the best defense in high school bball. Watch for them to win the region if they can get past SHill.

Let's get it straight.....it is not just about recruiting! How many kids ever make it at the next level any way? It is simply a matter of giving credit where credit is due.....with the players....you know , with the kids....not with the coach's win/loss record. Really fairly simple....it should be about the players and recruiting may be a small part of that. Sounds like some "smoke screens" are being laid, to make this topic about "recruiting", when the real issue may be , coaches avoiding dealing with the real issue Which is, Why they don't and/or won't post their team/player stats! FOR THE FINAL TIME...I HOPE? SOUNDS LIKE THIS HIT A SORE SPOT WITH SOME COACHES?

All I can say is you must be a high school coach, who does not report stats? I never said stats are the only method of recruiting. They are just one indicator , but must be combined with film and scouting etc. Are you a coach? Do you report stats? We are on the same page I think.....I am not totally rejecting your comments, just trying to emphasize the importance of "all participating" to make stats meaningful and to give credit where it is deserved ...WITH the KIDS! Can I at least get an AMEN to that? This forum is supposedly trying to get all caoches and teams to participate in "reporting stats". Let us all support that attempt. Knoxville

Good point. I don't know the OR coach, but would simply say he was putting his win/loss record before his players. That is just simple logic. Again ,since when do stats substitute for scouting? The only way some college scouts may take notice of a player on a remote team , may be through stats. So I ask what comes first ....the kids or the coaches win/loss record. Your response implies the latter. It is just a matter of priorities. Let's put the kids first........

Tnbreakers: Oak Ridge's coach's win/loss seems sounds to be more important than his players. In my estimation , coaches that place self over their players are the problem. How could anyone think that stats substitute for scouting? I think that is just an excuse for laziness and not caring. That reminds me of a famous high school football coach who was found to have a drawer full of letters from colleges he never delivered to his players.

Not all record here, but rather the coach as a role model and getting the most out of his crew? Who has placed the most players in Division 1 or 2 in past years?

As an aside to this topic , who is your vote for the BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER in East Tennessee? And don't be afraid to shout it out over the offensive mind set. After all defense wins games, and offense is often for show.................. my votes for best defensive players are Johnson (South Doyle), Shumate (Greenville), Deadrick (Morristown East)- this guy is like a "cat" on the court, fast and able to stop the best offensive players

Rhea County should win easily here against Morristown East. They are too big and strong for ME. Watch for Qualls and Jenkins to have a big game against Morristown's smaller crew.
