  1. Let me rephrase that. I didn't mean "waste their time" thats just the way I talk. sorry. Small colleges will go after the average players because they know that the good ones are already gone to bigger and better schools. Once small colleges learn that a bigger school was interested in them, they back -off and try for the next player. i.e. small colleges were talking to my son every weekend until they learned that a Div. 1 school was wanting him. They could have said to him "if you're still interested in us, please call us". Good luck to you and your son.
  2. My honest opnion would be that your son play summer ball on a good team that will be playing at colleges and universities. Also he may want to attend some showcases to show college scouts what he has to offer. I would have to say that it would be tough getting into a college or university witout being All-District or something eqivalent. Only very small colleges waste their time on average players. Thats just my opinion and what I've learned in the last 2 years.
  3. Nobody from Central on the list either
  4. Here is the 3-AAA All-District Team. Pitcher of the Year--- Drake Owenby Player of the Year--- Bryce Beeler Way to go guys!
  5. Halls beat Anderson Co. 10-0 will play Powell Monday @ 7:30. Oak Ridge beat Clinton 8-7 and will play Harden Valley Tuesday @ 5:00
  6. The All -District team was in the News-Sentinel last year. It had all their pictures posted and their stats.
  7. It must have been yesterday (Wednesday) because they have the All-District and MVP selected.
  8. Halls will play Clinton at 5 pm and Anderson Co. will play Oak Ridge at 7;30 May 6th @ Halls
  9. Does anyone see a upset in this district before Halls and Powell square off? who's the favorite?
  10. It would be an honor to play for great coaches such as Hochaver and Smith. I know my son loved playing for Coach Hoch.
  11. Just wondering what are your predictions and why are some teams losing games they should be winning. Pitching seems to be the difference on the bottom teams.
  12. This happened in a tournament on Saturday but the umpire they had on Thursdays game Ok'd to use it. Played a game yesterday against a kid using a comp bat and after long discussions and 2 illegal bat lists, they ok'd him to use it. They all will be using the same dead bats next year so enjoy.
  13. Halls is scrimmaging @ Gibbs today at 12:00. Should be a great day for it. Never got to play each other last year, but it's only a scrimmage. But its BASEBALL!
  14. This is some info that came from Anderson County: "Our top two pitchers are pitching well. We lost a kid, Nate Thomas, who'd be our number three pitcher. Right now it looks like it'll either be Blake Lafferty or Daniel Newman. Mikey Mullins, a transfer from Clinton, is hitting the ball well. He can catch but he'll probably play 3B. Trinity Carroll, a senior who played SS last year might be moved to OF and a true freshman, Hunter Tackett, is getting some serious looks to start at SS, but Carroll might end up staying there and Tackett start in the OF. We'll miss the sticks of Carter Pack (1B) who is at LMU now and Taylor Foster (3B) who is at Vol State. Matthew Walker will start again at catcher. He has signed with Roane State. Bryson Roberts is still hitting it well."
  15. Baseball season is almost here and can't wait to get it going. Halls High School has Andrew Barkley LH pitcher commited to Coastal Carolina and Bryce Beeler LH batter, multi-position infielder signed with Memphis Tigers. Beeler broke 2 school records and tied 2 others his junior year and should topple a few more this year. We'll know more in about a month what other schools have. Powell should be loaded this year and will let someone else talk about what they have. Let's hear it from other schools in East Tennessee.
  16. I just anxious for practice to start so I tell what we have. Won't be long now, digging out the blankets, gloves, boggan and Hot Hands soon!!
  17. Really don't know what Halls has this year. Alot of juniors and sophomores are gonna have to step up to the plate so to speak. Lost 4 infielders and 2 outfielders. Bryce Beeler, Andrew Barkley and Andrew Russell are the only returning Seniors. Beeler and Barkley will be counted on heavily. Can't wait to start practicing outside!
  18. Kids can swing the bats in the winter time, They just can't swing their bats during the "dead period" with their high school coach watching or giving instruction. My son has played "Open League" baseball since he was 7 years old and always worked during the winter months swinging and throwing. But when they get to the high school level, Only the high school coaches must refrain during dead periods. The kids can do whatever they wish by themselves.
  19. Not sure when exactly the season starts but Halls play Powell 3/21&23. Powell should be strong again if can find somebody to help Owenby and some steady sticks. Halls lost alot of big sticks but still have Bryce Beeler (Memphis signee) an Andrew Barkley (Coastal Carolina signee) and a little help coming up. Anderson County will be strong also with those to lefties in Durand and Williams on the mound. My picks in no order is Powell, Halls, Anderson County. Can't wait for it to start up again.
  20. Are high school baseball coaches allowed to work with their pitchers now?
  21. Who are the Senor players to watch in East Tennessee this spring? Should be a great group of players coming out.
  22. College coaches are playing themselves during the high school season and doesn't have the free time to go across the state and watch players. If your son is good enough to make a big money summer league team, do it no matter waht it takes. Scouts come to watch high dollar teams because they have high quality players. High dollar teams play at Div.1 universities all around the southeast. Great exposure to many colleges Just my 2 cents and know from experience.
