If your son goes to GCS and you didn't know that CofC was a requirement.....ummm, how did you not know that?

What demonination did not matter under the Martin regime. The program's talent is the worst it's ever been. It compounds it worse with parents that have their own agenda, etc. Good thing is numbers wise we have some depth. I think the 3A decision in football was a bad idea, but with the talent, I can't disagree that a different offensive philosophy might have helped to keep scores close and give a chance to win. The offense had I believe 2 passing touchdowns this season, and 1 was from the backup. It was a JV squad against really good 3A programs. At this point, it's not the coaching, it's the talent. It's been a perfect storm for the program. Coach vs. Headmaster, parents strife, etc. We should have went DII a couple of years ago to compete, but that's irrelevant now. Davidson and JP2 have definitely dipped in to the talent pool. The strife inside the school with "Martin guys" is apparent. And the 3A decision is a head scratcher.

LHS needs Harp to stay. And he needs some help. If LHS could keep some of their talent, they would be competitive. I would argue that if Jones and Speedy were at LHS they would be competitive. Harp is a good coach. I don't think he would come down here to just quit after a couple of seasons, but competing at the 6A level at LHS is going to be an uphill battle. With FCS building such a good program in the last 10-15 years, it's crippled LHS.

ParentGCS, i would like to know what your issue was with Coach Martin? Did you have issues with the way he treated players? I was a fan of Coach Martin, and did not like the way things ended from both sides, and in hindsight I wish cooler heads would have prevailed. Thanks for your input.

The parents havent worked toward the same goal here in years. Everyone here has had their own agenda the last couple of years. Its frustrating to watch a place that was such a quality program to be so far away from what they used to be.

l apologize for "questioning your character". It is apparent with "meeting you at the field house" that you are a man of high moral authority. I have little desire to meet someone that is an adult who "wants to meet me at the fieldhouse" over a difference of opinion of a former coach. I asked why you wouldnt let your son for Coach Martin? Will you answer? I honestly would like to know.

Then what exactly is your issue with Coach Martin?

If you wouldnt let your son play for Coach Martin, then you didnt know him very well. Granted, he did not handle things well with RP and the administration, but he is a man of integrity. While the adminstration was getting bullied by absurd parents that wanted a 3-time state champion fired, he stood by his principles. Again, he didnt handle things well, but to say your son would not have played for him leads me to believe you are about your son, and not the team...:which is exactly why GP is where they are at. Some of the people over here got exactly what they deserved. The athletics are deteriorating, and the current administration is doing very little at this time about it.

So you were happy with the Coach Mote hire and 0-10 seasons? Are u happy with the decision to go 3A?

Lot of truth in this post. Lots of turnover in the faculty with both teaching and coaching. With coaching, I think a lot of the football guys were loyal to Martin, which made it hard for Mote in the first place. Letting Estep walk was a mistake. Not as many transfers coming to GP these days in football or softball. And in fairness, not as much homegrown talent either.

I'd say there is a couple of things. RP, administration, and board decision making to this point in football has been questionable. If you are going to let Martin go, spend some money and get a proven guy. Not the guy who is below .500 as a coach and is CofC. Mote was a disaster after letting Martin go. Then after going 0-10 last season, they fire Mote mid-season, and go get Joslin. Coach Joslin will build it up again, but it's going to take some time. But jumping back to 3A after going 0-10 was a terrible decision, and I don't see the point. The talent isn't there to compete in 1A, much less 3A. They have depth in the younger grades and will be competitive in time. You got to have the Jimmies and Joes, and we don't have enough of them. They need to consider D2 at some point. They aren't willing to spend the money to get a top-notch coach/staff. It's been just one bad decision after another for this program and athletics in general over here. Really disappointed in the lack of leadership on the athletics part to this point.

Is Lil Bo Hodges playing QB now? Thought for sure they played a freshman last season.

Young Cougars looked like a JV squad against CPA. We literally just wanted the game over. Long season again this year. Martin in the playoff this season at Stewarts Creek might be the worst coaching change decision ever.

I agree. Coach Joslin has been very refreshing and I think he will get us competitive. Lot of young guys playing and our depth will be much better in the next couple seasons.

FRA was the best team we have played all season. No quit in the Cougars yet, but man it's been a long season thus far. Maybe we can catch Whites Creek on an off night this week. We are really struggling with confidence.

The starter does throw a good ball, but has made his mistakes. In fairness, he doesn't have a lot of time to make decisions and has had a bad streak of dropped passes. Our O-Line is young and he gets pressured pretty quickly. He is going to be pretty good. Our backup QB is also a freshman, and he isn't a slouch either. We could use them both on the field at the same time in my opinion as the backup is pretty athletic and can make plays with the ball in his hands.

Back to the topic......... Cougars are 0-3, but did get a TD this last Friday. I don't see things letting up with this schedule as FRA is rolling into town after beating DCA. Think we might be able to catch Whites Creek or East Nashville as both of those programs seem to be struggling. We had some opportunities to score, but just shot ourselves in the foot. Hopefully, we can grow on offense.........it can't get too much worse. 2.3 ppg isn't going to beat too many people. Probably need to schedule Pickett County for next season. Coach Martin is looking pretty good right now. Perry really ran this into the ground.

I saw that. I would say he is the only one I would consider "impact" out of the 4/5.

Maybe I'm missing something. Cougars were 0-10 last season and lost to RBS, and are 0-2 this season. If there are impact transfers on the roster, I haven't seen any.

He is ineligible. We have 4-5 that are playing JV only.

Going to be a tough year for the Cougars. We got a lot of young guys playing this season, so there is some hope for the future. Playing in 3A this season, we are going to take some bumps, but gates should be better with some more natural rivalries. 1st 2 games have been a little rough to say the least. I'm just hoping we can score some points this season as we are averaging 0 points per game on offense. Schedule doesn't seem to have any "gimme" games on it, but since we went 0-10 last year and lost to RBS we must be everyone's homecoming game this season. We have 22 freshmen on the roster, which is encouraging.....just going to be a rebuild for Coach Joslin. Hope the Cougar faithful are patient with him.

You have to be one miserable person. The only person to blame for Jackson County losing is Jackson County. You had the game won. And as far as recruiting goes.....yal's girls coach better be looking for some players, Laken Leonard isn't walking the halls over there right now.

Agree with this assessment. This region will be interesting. Looking forward to having the boys from Byrdstown come back down.......there will be no mercy shown tonight. Be a long ride back in the camper to Pickett.
