  1. They have some speed. Their runners run smart and run hard. They utilize their blockers well. The QB moved very well. He moved around the pocket and extended plays. Most of their passing yards came off screens. One of their backs(#2) went down with a knee or ankle injury near the end of the game.
  2. We have had good special teams all year. Several kick returns for tds . No disrespect intended to the head coach, but the mistake was kicking to him the second time.
  3. I have always said that we have a good passing game , as long as we keep the patterns short and crisp,10 to 15 yds. Most of the ints. came when the ball was thrown deeper. The bad snap late in the game that gave them 1st and goal was a back breaker.I would say that practicing the passing game was not high on the priority list, but until tonight, we really didnt need it. Hats off to GP, but I think we would have won minus the turnovers.AND I ECHO HV2010, WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU WARRIORS. You have laid a solid foundation for future HV teams.
  4. Even with all the turnovers, we still about made it. Good luck to the etown boys. I think the passing game will be big. GP had several interceptions tonight, but alot of open receivers were missed. And it appeared that the middle was wide freakin open. It's hard to beat GP up there though. I give betsy the edge because of their defense.
  5. Amen on warmer weather. That or somebody call ETSU and lets move the games in the dome.lol I saw a huge offensive adjustment in the second half that helped our running game.Other than that, I think we are in better shape and just wore them down. I saw the same thing in the North game. The conditioning is paying off. Thanks orange and black. Would love to see an all Carter co. regional final. Boy , wouldn't the message board light up then.It has been a great year for all the schools within the boundaries of Carter Co.
  6. Not sure how the TSSAA rotates their officials, but it sounds like the exact crew that let the Happy Valley- Johnson County game get out of hand. Would like to know if it was the same crew. There were 2 players ejected in it.
  7. I think I would have to give the edge to you guys. It has the makings of a good ballgame. We have home field. You guys can put the points up. Seems like we are able to turn it up a notch or 2 when we play GP.There has been some good battles in the past.If we play like we did against S. Greene in the 1st quarter, we will be in big trouble. I was kinda hoping that you guys may be a little sore from the S. North ballgame(lol). Those boys like to hit.
  8. Good luck cyclones! Represent us well against the Knoxville area!
  9. Hats off to HVHS for having the heart to not quit. Congrats to South Greene for a well played ballgame.
  10. I will be nice and not comment on the old coach. I am very happy with what we got now.Not sure what is not true. When the new conferences were made, G-p and all the Greene Co. schools scheduled other people. If he didn't schedule Clintwood, we would have just had 8. It was idiotic that he did wait till the last minute to try to find replacement games. Shively couldn't find games because most schools will enter into 2 year agreements(1 home game, 1 away game). He did have options, but again, they were looong road trips. One was near the outer banks in NC. Next year, we have dropped Cloudland and Clintwood. He have picked up Daniel Boone, Sullivan Central, and Abingdon, Va.
  11. That is a good coach. My high school coach never sat anyone out. But if one player mouthed off, then the whole team ran until....well, until we knew better than to flap our gums. Not only did we keep ourselves in check, we kept our team mates in check as well. STill though, in this instance, one particular fellow dressed in black and white appearred to be having the same problem with keeping his emotions in check.(Not only against us, but against johnson co. too). I'm pretty sure that the refs are to keep their own feelings in check when calling a game. And I know you have had to see one or two in your lifetime.
  12. Yeah hopefully he will remember . It is not always the player though. Some refs are more thick skinned than others. Having played high school and college basketball, I can attest, that refs are humans too. What gets you a technical foul or penalty one night, doesn't the next. Maybe somebody hid his whistle before the game....
  13. That's a shame. He was also a good 7 or 8 feet away from the ref. Our team lost their composure a lil. But when your watching 60 yards worth of penalties being stepped off all at once.... Also noted that after the Johnson County player got ejected for fighting, their coach got flagged for jawing at the ref. Neither 15 yd penalty was ever marked off against them. Refs were not on their game that night.
  14. Didn't know about the sign. Hopefully we learned from that. Don't give a good team something to chew on right before the game.Anyway, I'll be rooting for the cyclones and thought they might have had Alcoa's number last year. It would be great for both teams to meet in the 3rd round .But there are some other good teams to be concerned about before then. I was at our last game and I saw a lot of missed opportunities you guys had.( A few dropped passes). We also killed ourselves with 8 fumbles. It was great to see a close game.
  15. I guess what I'm saying is that the seedings really don't mean a hill of beans to anyone. We have had a good season and feel we can play with most teams in the state. The coaches do an excellent job of putting the kids in positions to win. If the season ends friday, then it's been one heck of a ride. SG , I hope is not overlooking them. Here's to a good injury free game for both sides.
  16. agreed. She doesn't handle kickoffs. The only wild card being, kicking is not about having the strongest leg. It is all about foot speed and leg swing. If leg strentgh was the only factor, then most of the offensive lineman would be doing the kicking. This probably is not the right forum, but while I have your attention, What's up with the Greene Co. schools this year. WG looked unbeatable, then they get tripped by Unaka. SG looks tough, but then WG handles them. CD looks tough, but then gets schooled by SG. What's going on down there?
  17. yeah, we will trade you. You can have the #1 seed..... we will take the 8.lol
  18. Amen 07Raiderdad. The new season starts now. It doesn't matter who is ranked #1 or #8, you have to beat whoever is put in front of you to survive. Honestly , I wish we didn't have the 1 seed. We play better in the underdog role.lol I try to stay out of the mud slinging, but last time I checked, this was a thread for for the SG vs. HV groups to trade opinions. Looks like they just want to talk about seedings, which I think we all know, is messed up. Good luck to guys at GP. It a beautiful field up there on top of the mountain(unless its wet). I think you guys match up good with them. I think if you guys go up and play Raider football, you will be fine.Seems like they try to intimidate you in the early going. I did see an article in Gatlinburg paper about it. I think that passing game you flashed against us could be a key.
  19. Whether it be coaches mentality or just fate, a lot of athletes don't get the opportunity to show what they have in the game. I listed the practice distances just to convey he does have the leg. He just needs the chance. His kickoffs do speak for themselves. Against Sullivan East 7 out of 8 kickoffs were touchbacks, with one going thru the uprights. Betsy's kicker, Christine Hardin, being just a sophomore, does have a pretty good leg on her. She is fundalmentally sound. I would like to see what she can do as she matures .
  20. Kicker/Punter Zac Phillips(Happy Valley)Also plays LB/WR. While the opportunity to kick field goals in games are few (1/2), he has been cosistantly kicking from 50+ yards in practice with the longest being 55 yds. His Kickoffs are usually kicked into the endzone with an almost 5 second hangtime. He won the Three Rivers Conference Kicking contest. He won the punting contest with a 51 yard punt.
  21. I have a feeling that South Greene is alot like Happy Valley in the fact that winning and losing sometimes is decided by if they actually show up to play. I've seen the Warriors look unstoppable, then turn around and be real lucky. Should be a good game. I think they will be renewing their rivalry from the old Watauga Conference.
  22. We had only 9 games because the first time TSSAA screwed with the system, teams from Greene Co and Gat. Pittman had to fill their schedules with new conference members. I think we had a few prospects, but they were 5-6 hours away. I think I read where , for some reason, the TSSAA would not recognize conference champs in their ranking system. I am a Warrior fan, but was completely shocked when the rankings came out. You guys won the district and beat us so you should be ranked either #1 or #2. I was expecting a 3 or 4 for us. Take it easy on the cupcake schedule, after all , your team is on it. I would have liked to have seen Etown take on Hampton, Clintwood. I would like to congratulate all the county schools, including Elizabethton. They all made the playoffs this year.
