I look at Kyle as more of a shooting guard. As a matter of fact, and correct me if I am wrong, I think she was thrown into the point guard role this year with the loss of Sara Jane Sinard. She has done a great job but will probably be a shooting guard at the next level.

I would have to second that. I saw her in the Greene County Bank Ladies' Classic and she was probably the second best point guard in the tournament behind the girl from Prairie Washington. Maybe couldn't play at the DII level but would be a great leader for an NAIA school.

and doesn't Ottinger's mom and grandmother work for the Greeneville City Schools. That would probably be the reason he comes into the City.

These are High School kids and don't deserve to have their names put on a message board in a negative light. But anyone who saw Greeneville play a single game last year can figure it out.

I don't think you can say that Lynn Burkey showed a lack of discipline for not being able to control "the problem". I don't think Bob Knight could have had more control. I have never in all my life seen an attitude that bad that led to "the problem". As a matter of fact I think you have to say that Burkey did one of the greatest coaching jobs ever not letting it spread to the rest of the team. With a lesser coach "the problem" would have torn that team apart, he did a remarkable job keeping that team together. "The problem" makes TO look like a golden child. As for this years coach, I think it is a huge adjustment going from junior college assistant to high school head coach especially with parent situation at Greeneville. It has been a learning experience for her but she is doing a wonderful job of adjusting. She was lucky to have two talented, experienced, and level headed assistants to help with the adjustment. Both those assistants are good enough to be quality head coaches somewhere.

Wiggins is not ranked high in Tennessee because he has only played in this state since Christmas. He was in North Carolina last year. Try getting your facts straight.

Well the South Greene Coon Club is right behind the South Greene High School so maybe they were just doing a chanting ritual in hopes that hunting season would arrive that much quicker. After all hunting season is bigger than Christmas out there.

I think it is funny the way South Greene fans get jacked up for this game and think it is a huge rivalry. It is kind of like UT getting jacked up for Kentucky. While its a big game for UT, Kentucky would rather beat Louisville or Florida. South Greene fans see this as such a big rivalry while Greeneville fans just see it as a game against one of the county schools. All it really means is that there is less distance to drive to go watch it and there is probably going to be a ham or bean supper before the game to raise money for this volunteer fire department or that ruritan

South Greene has the leading scorer in the county in Kyle Donahue and this game is being played at South Greene, which the last time I went is the best high school basketball atmosphere I have ever seen, so Greeneville better bring the A+ game or the Rebs will get the win. One thing is for certain the Rebels have no fear when it comes to this matchup.

Former Seymour High School 6'4 post player Brooke Johnson scored 39pts pulled 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots yesterday as the Carson Newman Eagles advanced to the South Atlantic Regional Final in the D2 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Johnson was named co player of the year and freshman of the year in CN's conference but to play like that on a big stage like the NCAA tournament and only to be a freshman, well anyway congratulations to her. Good to see a local girl doing so well at the next level.

I saw Brooke play last year against South Greene in the substate and knew my Pioneers would be in trouble this year (for alot of reasons) with a player that size that can shoot and move without the ball going to our arch rival Carson Newman. She is so dominant and to only be a freshman, oh my.

barb, I don't know if you saw the regional final but Manuel did not give 100%. I would say it was about 80. She played well but still alot of standing around and not running the play but when it became crunch time she shut down Huff and set some nice picks. Regional MVP at 80% just think what she could do if she wanted to. She has played great in the postseason but you will never see that girls full potential.

That was my point. You know Megan will show up, so it all depends on which Manuel shows up. And as I said if she will give even 75% (because 100% is not possible) Greeneville could go a long way. Its not that Manuel is better it is just that you know Megan is going to play so it all depends on Manuel and her attitude.

I was not ever around the Oak Ridge program so I don't know who coached or built what, but I do know that Greeneville was not even the most recogniseable girl's program in their own county (South Greene Lady Rebels were) before Burkey and now they are known on a state level as a good program. Before Burkey left Oak Ridge theywere a state powerhouse and nationally ranked and they have not been the same since he left

Yeah, it is definitely no coincidence that Greeneville had never hosted a substate game in the school's history and now in only Lynn Burkey's second year the lady devils will be hosting their second straight substate game. I was at the game last night and it dawned on me that how far Greeneville goes in the tournament does not depend on Lyons. You are going to get her best effort every single night, it became very obvious that the success of this team revolves around Manuel, the devils will go as far as she wants to take them. Late in the game last night Ashley Huff was starting to heat up so Burkey finally decided to put Manuel on her devensively and she shut her down, to me (the average fan) that is what pulled out the game last night. If Manuel gives even 75% the rest of the way the lady devils could set up a date with Mt. Juliet. I am in no way trying to take anything away from Lyons, it is just that you know she will do whatever it takes, it is Manuel that is the X factor.

Science Hill did not see Shumate either time this year. In the first match up it was his last game and he gimped around the whole game and he did not dress in the second game. So to say Science Hill is the better team because they beat a Shumateless Greenville team twice is not a fair assessment. But if you want to overlook the Devils sounds good to me, I kind of like being the underdog.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about Megan breaking the scoring record has been lost in all of this. Folks, she scored all these points playing her first two years with the previous record holder Beth Bryant. Megan was always an amazing basketball player to watch but she had to wait a couple of years to really become the focal point, which in my mind makes this record even more impressive. Also, to score all those points and also have the assist record to go with it shows her desire to be a team player. It is hard to score that many points and share the ball the way she does as well. She makes everybody around her better but can step up and take over the game when she has to. Megan Lyons, one of a kind.

Good confidence boosting win heading into the district tournament. For Greeneville, hopefully make them refocus.

I do not mean to be critical but I had heard alot about Baughman and Redd. I was interested in seeing them play when they came to the Greene County tournament and I was extremely disappointed.
