  1. This looks like one of the best games on tap for Friday.
  2. Again, the Bowling Green football players played a great game. I am not going to comment on what either coach did or said because I was not on the field. Nor do I care to talk about what fans said. Both sides had sour grape fans. My only beef was the officials. They gave Bowling Green a competitive advantage, and we all know what the result was. One last point on controlling players...my contention is that Blackman did not warrant all the unsportsmanlike penalties. So as you have asked me not to blame the BG kids, I would like for you to do the same. Good luck in the KY playoffs.
  3. I apologize for not making my statement more clear. My comment was not directed toward the football players for Bowling Green or Blackman. It appears they played their hearts out. It appears to me to be beyond doubt the referees influenced the outcome of the game in favor of Bowling Green. Through video evidence, some of the calls I heard on the radio had little justification. And calls that Blackman should have received were neglected. I agree that fans will be disgraceful too at times, no doubt both teams had some.
  4. 25-20 Blackman 4.5 minutes left in game. Blackman went for 2 pt conversion and failed.
  5. Announcers for the game are giving me a heart attack on every play, both sides. I like it, but I don't.
  6. 20-19 Bowling Green, early 4th quarter.
  7. Listening to the game...Blackman has been flagged for about 8 unsportsmanlike and late hit penalties. They are throwing flags against Blackman every play. Ejections have happened too!
  8. Thanks Tadvols. All these schedules and teams run together after looking at them for so long. I'l correct the mistake.
  9. Elizabethton would be #3 with a win and a Greeneville win.
  10. Greeneville would be #2, as they will finish 10-0. I don't think Greeneville will catch Fulton in the 2nd tie breaker. Greeneville would need West Greene, Grainger, and Jeff Co. to win, and both Knox Central and Christian Co. to lose just to have a chance. If that did happen, I have not looked at the 4th tie breaker for Greeneville. Edit: Actually, if West Greene, Grainger, and Jeff Co. all won and both Central Gibbs and Christian Co lose, then Greeneville would overtake Fulton.
  11. If Sullivan South, Greeneville, and Knox Fulton all go 10-0, the first tie breaker is teams on schedule with .500 or better record. Here is how things are shaping up: After tonight's results: Fulton has 5 teams assured of .500 (Powell, Farragut, Gat. Pittman, Pigeon Forge, Carter) Fulton also has 2 more teams which could reach .500 in the last week (Knox Gibbs Central, Christian Co.) Gibbs 4-5 at Knox Central 4-5; Christian Co. 4-5 @ McCracken 7-2 Sullivan South has 4 teams assured of .500 (Tennessee, Gate City, VA, Sull. North, Elizabethton) Sull. South has 2 more teams which could reach .500 in the last week (Happy Valley, Cherokee) Happy Valley @ Sullivan North; Cherokee @ Seymour Greeneville has 3 teams assured of .500 (Chuckey-Doak, Harlan Co., Signal Mtn) Greeneville has 3 more teams which could reach .500 in the last week (Grainger, West Greene, Jeff Co.) First, Fulton, Greeneville, and Sullivan South need to win in week 10. Sullivan South looks like it should be in a real dogfight with Elizabethton. I think Greeneville and Fulton should win. If South can win, I think Fulton will be #1, South will be #2, and Greeneville #3. I like Cherokee to win over Seymour. Going into the final week, Fulton leads South by +4 in the fourth tie breaker. Looking at all the matchups next week, I see a scenario where South could catch Fulton in this 4th tiebreaker although unlikely.
  12. My take on the big three from 7AAA thus far and their playoff prospects. Oakland: I've watched more of their games of the three this year. Defensively, they are probably top 5 throughout all divisions. It will take a talent laden and well coached team to score more than 20 points on Oakland. I'm not sure when Brentwood scored their 21, but believe some of it was on second team personnel. Offensively, my take early in the season was that Oakland is one-dimensional...run, run, run. But my take has changed. Oakland merely does what is necessary to win. If their opponent cannot stop the run, then Oakland will not pass much. Siegel: I've seen Siegel play a few times too this year. Offensively, they are explosive. Just see their point totals. I think their offense is the best of the three. But I also, think their defense is the weakest of the three. However, I think Siegel has gotten better as the year has progressed. I believe Siegel could beat both Blackman and Oakland in a rematch, but they can not turn the ball over like they did in the first meetings. Blackman and Oakland Defenses have a way of creating turnovers. And, as has been mentioned by others, they need to be healthy come playoff time. Blackman: I have seen Blackman play the least of the three. Clearly by the way they have been running through teams, they have very good offensive and defensive units. I want to see how they respond after their loss, next week versus a very good Bowling Green team from KY. Playoffs: These three teams seem to be forecasted to all play in Quad 2. I believe one will advance to play Maryville in the semifinal at Maryville. Odds are Oakland will be that team, but could easily be any of the three teams. I believe of the three, Oakland and Siegel might be better suited to beat Maryville. Siegel could only when win in a shoot out I believe, like last year, but I believe Maryville's team is better this year, and Siegel's is not quite like last year's. And it will be at Maryville. Oakland would need to put together its best game on both sides to pull it off. Maybe a couple of takeaways and a few big offensive pass plays. Oakland's team also would do well in bad weather because of their line and run ability. Looking forward to November 29 in Maryville.
  13. You are correct. Elizabethton and Sullivan South are in D1AA and Greeneville is in D2AA ;>) I think Elizabethton and Sullivan South are more than capable of giving my Alma Mater a good game.
  14. Your point is received. But my point was simply to refute the assertion that D7AAA is overrated. Somebody has to advance in the playoffs. Some districts advance with regularity each year and others don't. D7AAA/Old Region 4's resume is an impressive one. No sane person is disputing Maryville's resume. I look forward as a resident of Murfreesboro to hopefully seeing a D7AAA representative take another shot at them down the road this year...just pulling for the city and county I live in. I sure would like to take in another classic like last year's Siegel vs. Maryville game. It was a classic.
  15. I am quite sure that D7AAA/Old Region 4 gets talked about quite a bit, but to say the District is overrated and quote one piece of evidence is itself silly. Facts are our friends, right? Since 2001, a District 7 team has played for the highest classification championship 8 times. 5 times a District 7 team has won the championship (Riverdale [2], Smyrna [2], Oakland [1]). Every single year of this stretch, a District 7 team has made at least the semifinals. We all know Maryville's resume speaks for itself-Since moving to the highest classification, Maryville has played in the title game every year, winning two of four. Prior to this, from 2001-2008, they won 6 of 8 championships in 4A. The only district that compares with District 7AAA is the current district 16/Old Region 8 which has had at least 10 semifinalist appearances between Whitehaven and White Station and Houston, Germantown from Old Region 8 (And Melrose was successful in 4A too). They had three championships during those years (Whitehaven, White Station, Germantown). District 7AAA/Old Region 4 and District 16AAA/Old Region 8 are clearly the best two areas of football where multiple teams are concerned. And nothing much compares to Maryville's resume in the higher classifications since 2001.
  16. You are correct. White Station has one brutal schedule too!
  17. I wasn't even close on the combined total prediction (80). I thought Siegel had a good game plan to contain Science Hill's QB. The D-Ends often did not rush but tried to keep him in the pocket. He still had a great game though. McGue's passing in the first half was average, but in the second half he got much better. But there were a few noticeable drops or mistimed jumps by receivers. I thought there were a few bad calls both ways. Siegel had a fumble recovery taken away early, and the SH QB broke loose late in the 4th quarter but ref ruled him in the grasp a little early. He would have scored on that one too. But I don't think the ref calls would have changed the outcome of the game. Siegel was better than SH tonight.
  18. Also, I look for the combined score to total more than 80 points in this one.
  19. I have never seen such a brutal schedule. Every team Siegel has faced thus far has been undefeated. I'm not sure if any team Science Hill has played thus far could beat any team on Siegel's schedule to date, although Elizabethan is a good team. I think playing at home and playing much better competition should give Siegel the edge in this one. I hope to catch the second half of this game.
  20. Difference in the ballgame were the Oakland takeaways. Otherwise a close ball game. Enjoyed the game with one of my daughters, only her second game ever.
  21. I would be a little shocked if Oakland mercy rules Siegel. I look for this to be a competitive game.
