  1. Owlbooster, again you are taking posts out of context. If you look carefully, I said that without Perry and Rodgers, MUS is an average "DII team" - not an average team. Nearly all of the DII teams are better than 95% of the other teams in Tennessee, regardless of classification. Certainly the MUS middle linebacker is a very good high school player - amazing for his size. MUS, in my opinion has really over achieved with average talent. They dont run the ball well and do not have a dominant player on defense - but the 2 guys on offense make them a very tough team to beat.
  2. I too think the ref missed the call when Sanders took the kickoff out of the endzone but that happens -- Rodgers and those 4 receivers will be difficult to stop; MUS has 2 great high school players, Rodgers and Perry - otherwise MUS is a really average DII team; well coached certainly. If the MUS defense can contain Corn and not give up long runs for TD's, the it will be up to the Ensworth "other players" -- then we will see if Ensworth has enough offense to win. With MUS passing so much, the game will be a long one - with lots of offensive possessions for both sides. In the first game (MUS Ensworth), the Ensworth defense got tired and did not play well in the 4th quarter. Istill say Ensworth by 3 TD's
  3. I agree that Rodgers is a terrific high school QB. He reminds me of (perhaps the best BA QB other than Kent Austin) Scott Speedy who was a standout QB at BA during the 1980's -- and was involved in a number of close well played games vs MUS when both schools were in the AA classification. The first time through the league has been a bit rough for the new staff at BA -- they struggled against McCallie's and MUS's offenses - both of which are excellent at what they do -- McCallie in option game and MUS in passing game. Clearly, BA is in the top 2 in the league in talent; and the school devotes all necessary resources to fuel the success of this program. But, I have been impressed with the ability of the new coach to manage the entire program - and parents. Moving on to the finals: Ensworth with not give up the big plays in the passing game that BA just did (which is why BA is not playing in the finals; and like Ensworth did the first time they played MUS in game 1 of this season. Also, MUS is very solid on defense. Really if Ensworth plays to capability they are 2-4 TD's better - at a minimum. But Ensworth's passing game is weak and they have been turing the ball over much too much on basic runs that should not warrant so many fumbles. MUS is crazy if they kick the ball to Corn like they did in the BA game by kicking to Sanders. For MUS to move the chains, they will need to be able to be patient -- completing short passes -- they will not be able to run the ball at all. 28-7 Ensworth

    MBA

MBA has a very good team this year; and, certainly a fine football program. Also, few would argue that MBA is on of the best schools in the South. Ensworth, MBA, and Brentwood Academy all want to be as good (in football) as possible (MBA included). When MBA was winning numerous DII football championships during the last 14 years, it was because MBA was better coached and smarter than their competition. But, when MBA loses, it is because the other team has better players; AND is cheating to get those players. Let's don't kid ourselves, all schools in DII have recruiting systems in place to locate and recruit (sometimes within the rules) good athletes who may or may not be good fits for the school. Ensworth has a great team. Certainly a disproportionate number of Ensworth's better players are not part of the natural draw -- so what? Many of MBA's better players are not part of MBA's natural draw either. Part of having a good program in DII is being able to get good players; and certainly it's best for the school if those players will buy in to the values of the school - in that case, it's a win - win situation. Wanting to be good (and getting good players) in football is not selling your soul. Also, footbal already is a HIGH priority at MBA, Ensworth, and Brentwood Academy.
  5. Congratulations to Brentwood on a great season.
