  1. Well how did the takedown tournament go? I unfortunately had to work. This is usually one I like to go to!!
  2. Great to hear about Diehl! Will have to keep an eye out for him as the middle school season progresses this year! Boatman doing well on the next level is no surprise to me! Love to watch that kid wrestle. I'm also not surprised to hear Armstrong is at 133 he was a huge 26 pounder his senior year. I expect great things out of him!
  3. Great to hear Palmer put in the work over the summer. State Champ this year if you ask me.
  4. I'm interested in seeing alot of the matches that could take place this season. Obviously not knowing where the guys from the Hill will be its hard to say some of these will happen. Bynum(DC) vs Nelson(THS) at 113 or 120-These matches are always fun. They maybe at different weights this year. Both should win region titles if they are in seperate weights though. Hux(JC) vs Hurley(THS) at 126-A rematch would be really fun to watch. They always put on a good overtime show. Collins(JC) vs Porter(ME) at 132-I would imagine Porter moves up and as stacked as they are at Jeffco I'd say this is where Collins ends up. Could be very interesting this season. Rolston(SH)/Williams(ME)/Jeffers(DB) at 152-I haven't heard much about Williams this summer but he's a gamer and could win the region at this weight. I know it probably wont happen but I would like to see Pendley(THS) at this weight too. Broyles(MW) vs Jessee(SH) at 160- This could be the region championship match if Begley moves up. I'm not sure if they've ever wrestled but I like the match up. Begley(DB) vs Hardin(SH) at 170-If Palmer moves up this will be the finals match. Could be intersting. English/Dean/Nguyen at 182-This could be a really fun series to watch all season. I think English will wind up on top. Whitelaw(MW) vs Bagley(SH) at 220-Obviously this match won't happen unless the hill bumps Bagley up to wrestle him against west. Alot of people don't know Whitelaw but trust me... they will very soon. Could be a great match. Most of these are just off of the top of my head and I'd love to hear everyone's opinions or matches they want to see! -Dylan
  5. I'm actually curious as to what science hills line up looks like after losing Hudgins, Vaughn, and Bagley. I'm sure they will fill the spots easily but who ever steps up has big shoes to fill.
  6. This threads been dead for a little while so let's spice things up. Anyone have early predictions for the year? I know a whistle hasn't even been blown for the first match this season just a little discussion to get back into the swing of things!
  7. Looks like Halls will end up being the favorite of this tournament. Mowest will surprise a lot of people this year though. West has a lot of solid kids in the room right now. Wouldnt complain seeing fox and broyles in a rematch from over the summer at this one.
  8. well in district 2 obviously Jeff co is kingpin. It will probably end up being Jeff, Mowest,Moeast, cocke co. Had the pleasure of watching west's practice today and they have a very good 45 pounder coming in too. Factor him in and that's another possible state qualifier. Jefferson is not a team to play around with. A lot of talent. They are loaded top to bottom over there. Could they give the hill a run for that region title this year??
  9. Thank you! That's exactly what I'm getting at!
  10. I understand what you're saying and by no means do I think our teams are going to go out and beat Cleveland 72-0 or something outrageous. I'm talking about the improvement. That's what the sport is about. I'm not blowing any team up to be unbeatable but I know they will have just from west atleast 5 make it to state. The record is 4 so its not blind optimization I just believe kids deserve credit when they get better. I also want to point out the fact that region 1 had several kids who are by no means scrubs. Believe it or not there are tough kids in Morristown who work just as hard as everyone else. To judge a wrestler just because they are in region 1 is short sited. Especially when you look like at a team like west. They may not have been very good but Griffen Broyles beat a few ranked guys last year. From east they have Storm Williams and Landon Porter. Also both solid kids. Tennessee high is no joke, db always has it together and science hill is science hill. I have no doubt that you know what good wrestling is but improvement is the most important key in this sport. You misunderstand when we talk about our teams and think we are making them out to be this seasons state champs when in reality we are just excited about improvement. At least that's my point of view.
  11. The fact that you feel the need to talk about how bad high school level athletes are is sad. I'm also not going to sit and try to convince you how good region 1 is. Quite frankly I don't care how good you think it is. I do find it awful that a grown man has to go on a message board and down high school kids. Bad for the sport and makes you look like a sad individual. Just my 2 cents.
  12. How does Science Hill's line up look this season? It will hard to replace guys like Hudgens, Vaughn, and Bagley. Not saying you guys won't be at the top but it will be tough to find point scorers like them. Also any word on Storm Williams? Still hurt? Haven't seen him at any off season practices.
  13. To be honest I'm not sure what their schedule looks like for next season. Also Whitelaw and Broyles should be the captains as far as I know. They are both seniors. Last I spoke Broyles he said he would make the cut to 52 because thats where his best chances are to be all state. If I remember correctly Broyles stuck Armstrong last season and has beaten Rolston several times. I'm not sure if he has wrestled Jeffers but in order to win it will for sure be no gimme.
  14. I'm not saying they should be talked about as a top 4 team going into it but I am saying that everyone will be pleasently surprised. MoWest has had close to full line ups at the start of the past 2 seasons and wrestlers have seen injuries. The team slowly withers away after leadership roles get hurt. I'm not sure if you know many of the guys they are going to have but I can tell you Whitelaw(220) will not have a problem this season proving how solid he is as well as Grothe(either 60 or 70). Whitelaw seriously injured his back his freshman year but has slowly worked his way back to full recovery. When Grothe was a 45er early last season I would have put money on him majoring Williams from East but he broke his hand. I'm not saying he will win the region because he will probably run into Palmer but he can definatly make it to the finals. Simerly(195) could be top 4 as well (also broke his hand). He missed his freshman year but as an 8th grader he was 3rd in AAU state. I know that doesnt mean much at all in high school but he is making strides. Obviously they have Broyles making the cut to 52 and should win the region. Davis(220 or 285 depending on the wrestle off with whitelaw but he has not been getting the best of him) took on Alex Breeden a couple of weeks ago and only lost 4-2. I understand he has a little size on Breeden but it showed how much better he has gotten. He only weighs 217 right now but he is working on getting bigger for 285. I agree they are by statistic the worst team in the region right now and I'm not saying they will do as well as I expect but look for a much improved team for sure. Not to metion a freshman theyre getting at 285 that went 4-1 at a pigeon forge tournament a few weeks ago. I'm not saying they will go out and beat the Hill or anything but I am definatley saying they are capable having 5 guys in the region finals and walking out with 2 champs(Broyles and Whitelaw). I'm warning you the kids I've listed are NO JOKE. Lets also not forget about their feeder program at West View that dominated Jefferson Middle and every other school in the IMAC. MoWest for sure has a brighter future than everyone realizes.
  15. Well to be a 2x state qualifier and 2x region finalist and not be happy says a lot about him. Most kids would be satisfied. As for coach rudd I have honestly never even spoken to him.
  16. He is a senior and when I asked him about last season he wasn't happy and I wasn't going to poke at a sore subject lol. Oh and yes as far as I know coach rudd is still there.
  17. i only saw him a few times but he looked good. I expect a state medal from him. Anyway, being a Morristown native I thought I'd drop in on a summer workout and I spoke with Landon Porter and Griffen Broyles. Its crazy that none of those guys remember me managing their teams when they first started! Lol! Anyway, they ar both excited about their senior years and im excited to after what I saw. Landon said he will be anywhere from 32 to 45 and Griffen says he will be at 52. He said he needed the loss he took to Fox from Halls in OT a couple of weeks ago and its served as a real wake up call. As a whole ALOT of those kids looked like studs. Mowest is not that rinky dink team were used to anymore. They have a solid freshman class coming in and a lot of guys coming back from injuries. Haden Whitelaw, Thaddeus Grothe, and Thad Simerly are all coming back from injuries. Whitelaw suffered a back injury his freshman year and is back.. And he will be a favorite to win regions at 220. Serious stud that wrestles like a 38 pounder. Grothe moved here from Texas this year but was hurt early on not sure what it was but was having a good year. He should be 60 or 70 and Thad Simerly broke his hand and couldn't wrestle and he should be at 95 or 82. I'm just glad to see that program is picking back up with some solid guys ths season. As for MoEast they obviously have guys like Williams(who I've not seen in a long time), Porter, Short, and Talley. All pretty tough kids but other than that no depth in their line up. After what I saw MoWest should be back at the regional duals this season. Probably won't make it much farther but they will more than likely be back for the first time in 2 seasons.
  18. And Jd Lewis from sullivan south wrestled this weekend as well and he was relentless on his feet. Takedowns at will and wrestled well on top. Watch out for him!
  19. Went to watch the tourament this past weekend in pigeon forge and our guys in region 1that were there may not have came out on top but definitely wrestled well and its a long ways away from season. Griffin English was there and I didn't get to watch him too much but when I did he looked like he was wrestling well. Zach Bynum took a loss to kieta(pigeon forge) 6-4, broyles took a loss to fox(halls) 5-3 in overtime and surprisingly D'anthony Davis from mowest only lost to Alex breeden(pigeon forge) 4-2. Bryson hux also lost to nick Crawford (heritage) 7-4. Landon Porter only suffered a loss to a Virginia opponent this past weekend. Also there was a 285 wrestling for the Morristown team that was wrestling like a stud! Probably need to figure out his name. LOL. Regardless bynum was wrestling very sharp this weekend and already better. English has shown improvement. Hux looks like an animal regardless of taking losses. Broyles is faster and takedowns are ON POINT. Porter wrestled well but seemed very out of shape. Davis surprised me left and right. I want to know more about the heavyweight. That's all I got right now. There was probably more region 1 guys there but just mentioned what I saw.
  20. exactly. Don't worry about the ranking, but that's what this site is for. Its just a bunch of people invested in wrestling around here and having conversation. Don't mean to come across as a jerk but if I was #3 I wouldn't really be complaining.
  21. Don't worry I didn't personally. Lol as for English being number 7 he probably would have been higher but that loss to dean really hurt him. While I full heartedly believe English would have won the title if it went 6 minutes it didn't turn out that way. Broyles being at number 3 may be a head scratcher because he doesn't have a region title under his belt but he has been in the finals twice and won several matches at state. I also don't think he's stood still on improvement I think it had a lot to do with him being small for 60. If you ask me he is definitely good enough to be a region champion. Same for williams as English. He would be higher had he beaten Henley. Storm is much better than this ranking reads. He's another that I believe is good enough to win a region title. I miss ranked pendley he should be at least number 8 I wasn't aware he had a head to head win over porter. Hurley and begley are undoubtedly your top 2 I think it came down to like 6 points between them for number 1.
  22. well when boredom strikes these are the things I do. Lol it was about how many times you have qualified and matches you've won. Bagley, for example would have been higher had he qualified in 2013. Not ment to step on any toes but that was apart of my criteria. Regional champions get 10 points runners up get 8 3rd place get 6 and 4h place get 4. each match you have ever won at the state tournament is worth 2. Some people have made it twice and been in the finals twice that is 16 points alone of you win 2 matches you wind up with 20 points while some one who makes it once and places could wind up with 18 points.
