  1. I have really liked seeing the team come out with Bad Company playing, with its slow building intro then breaking into the chorus. It's a big highlight building up to the start of the game. Nothing I've saw compares to the intro our Pirates come out with. It's given me cold chills to watch... That being said, I have no problem with another song being used... A new identity being formed... I'm just glad to see the ship getting righted and back on course. I guarantee the enthusiasm and passion for the game will be back! Positive things happening in the Pirate Nation!!!
  2. +1 Very well said! Need to see a Pirate coach be passionate about it!
  3. I was thinking the same thing D60. Coalfield's O line is playing very well and the defense is keeping Henry in check right now.
  4. There are some good comments on here and I enjoy reading the CoachT forums. OP, you have made some good points! I wish we still had Coach Stone but that seems to be water under the bridge now. I hope that the Pirate seniors grow into fine men and do well in life. Nothing is given. It must be earned. Whatever happens in the future with Pirate football, I will still be supporting it. Attendance was way down this season... I hope the fans pack out the stands next year to watch the games on that Grider man's field. Like they have for many years past. I love my alma mater and hope to see the ship quickly righted and chopping through the water again with sails flying high.
  5. You said it Slice!! I could say a lot more but I'll need a keyboard and not this iPhone. I know the ills of coach bashing and I don't condone it. I've saw too much crap at other places. But my son isn't a spoiled brat expecting a free ride in life. High GPA, worked two jobs during the summer, and has given his all for the mighty Pirates! Some things just need fixed! And for the record, I'm a big fan of Coach Stone. What happened with him leaving is a tragedy for SP football. Don't think I'm just wanting trouble and discontent. I just don't want to see the program suffer more! Kids will leave! Guaranteed! You old pirates and alumni don't necessarily know the whole story of what all has happened this year. We just don't want the "no emotion, no enthusiasm" coaching style to continue. Heck even DW was banned from pre game speeches. And he's one of the best to ever wear orange and black!! A true Pirate! Yet he's been unwelcome under current circumstances. A d#*@ shame. Help solve the issues. This ain't our old days. Some of you don't agree with the words spoken by my son and that's your opinion. But he is not spoiled or feeling entitled. I have worked hard since age 15 and instilled that work ethic in him. He loves the Pirates. As do I. Let's come together and rise up! Whatever helps, I'm behind it 100%. GO PIRATES!!!
  6. Beer an you have hit the nail on the head! I like all of what you just said. Whatever happens before next season, I just hope that it is a step in the right direction for the program. I'll support the Pirates no matter what.
  7. Thanks for making this point, PP. Coach Grider always took care of the boys after games. Ask support staff! It was just another one of those things that Vic did that the boys appreciated and were thankful for. That fell through some this year and last night pushed things over the edge. I think it's very sorry to have brought down some very good aspects of a proud and successful program like has happened this year. I don't condone whining parents when it's just over their kid not getting playing time or something like that. But many of the proud alumni who think Pirate Pride means something are disappointed in the state of things now. Don't change and ruin things that are working and have worked! It takes action to create positive change and progress. Like D60 said, some coaches fit well into a program, some just don't. The boys deserved better this year. I say that not just as a Dad, but as an alumni and proud fan.
  8. Very well said, Mike!!!!! This is the best thing I've read on here in a long time! And what happened after the game last night was bad. The boys deserve better than that. They played hard in the game yet came up short. Only to have the coach fail them again after the game. I sure hate it for the boys.
  9. I agree. And the weather forecast looks better than last week. That was a crazy Halloween blast of wind, rain and cold! I hope the home side stands are packed Friday night. If I looked at the bracket correctly, win or lose, this will be the last game played on Vic Grider field this season. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  10. I'm really disappointed in some of our Pirate fans/parents. Whether it's online or right down on the wall where I stand at games, there's too much *#@! crying and yelling about why so-and-so isn't in the game. I've been hearing it at almost every game where I stand. And I know the players hear it because they turn around looking at these people who are causing a stir. Whether I agree with coaches or not, I can guarantee you this, coaches want to WIN and will put in the players who they feel will give the best chance of winning. I have saw this kind of "daddy-ball" crying before in other places in this valley. And it's like a cancer to a program. Whitwell, for one, had issues for a few years with various parents complaining alot about why their little Johnny wasn't getting to play. That mentality can debilitate the growth of a program. And it has no place at SP! GET BEHIND THESE GUYS AND SUPPORT OUR PIRATES!!!! Our stands are less full than I've saw in years. It's pitiful. I was glad to see DW back giving his loud support last Friday night. We need more of that. I'm through ranting now... it just burns me. As for the game Friday, I think we should win this game against Clay Co. By a couple of TDs. Our bracket is manageable. Let's show these guys how much we are behind them Friday night. Spread the word. Pirate fans, COME TO THE GAME AND MAKE SOME NOISE! Our Pirates need us and we need to be there for them!!! Most of you Pirate guys here on CoachT are very supportive. I hope the community returns to being that way as well! GO PIRATES!!! Where's the Tylenol....
  11. Great win last night! Much more solid playing and execution than we've been seeing this season. 14 continuing to show how valuable he can be in coming years. It was good to see 88 out there also. 57 and 24 did well. All in all just an enjoyable win. I'm proud of how our guys are putting it together now. Just hoping they continually improve and stay hungry through the coming weeks. I kinda hate to see us have an open date now after a game like last night. GO PIRATES!!!!
  12. I don't know about y'all but it seemed to me that there wasn't much enthusiasm on our sidelines last week at Whitwell. I had been telling my son during the week that the seniors really needed to step up and lead... Help fire up their teammates. Didn't look like there was much firing up on our sideline. I'd like to see Coach blow a gasket every once in awhile! We need a win bad this week against this purple team from Grundy. I'm no pessimist but I'm a realist and there's much work to be done! I'm about to head back to Whitwell again tonight to see the South Pittsburg Academy play. They are in bad need of a win! I hope to see our guys get some enthusiasm tomorrow night. It's homecoming! Don't allow the Jackets to come in and sink our ship. No matter what, win, lose, on top or in a slump, we are the Pirates and we're proud of it. I'm proud of our team and I just wanna see these guys enjoy some success for the rest of this season. GO PIRATES!!!!
  13. Roy, Long didn't get to play the last two games. Injured. He's been lifting weights and will be back out there tonight. The whole line better be tough tonight and hit somebody! Our runners need to run fast tonight so we can score more points than Whitwell. Lol. If we don't play well, Murphy will drop our rating!
  14. ðŸ‘Exactly! DW was upset about it. Idk what beef the Coach has with him but you are right, DW was one of the best to ever wear orange and black! The boys feed off of enthusiasm like that from an honored alumni. I hope our boys are ready tonight! It's Whitwell's homecoming and there's buzz around town. We need this win bad.
  15. Unfortunately, DW was told this year by the Coach that he wasn't welcome to be around like he has been in recent years, and he hasn't been allowed to give any pre-game pep talks or get near the boys to help fire them up. He's a true Pirate and loves the program. It's a shame... And the boys aren't happy about it. Our boys need to really be fired up and focused tonight. Gotta win this one. Go Pirates!
  16. Like the Drunken Sailor just said, that has happened to us a few times in the past by teams trying to slow us down. We'll pound the rock and play some smash mouth Pirate football on the wet field. Speed isn't our only option. And Varo, you'll see that we are nothing at all like Community! Travel safe and welcome to South Pittsburg! Be looking as you make your way through the fog for the Jolly Roger flying high! Let's Go Pirates!!
  17. Ahhh that foul creekbank... Lol. What a tough place to visit during the playoffs! Much respect to TC and their tradition. That being said, good luck to the Warrior players tonight! After all the whirlwind of negative events happening at their house this week, those guys need to experience some positive things. Go Pirates!
  18. Due to sign in problems off and on with my profile for some reason, I haven't posted in a coon's age. Well I hate to see this scattered rain moving in today. Our Pirates are evidently in for a battle with a team that has some talent and athleticism. For a first year program, they are obviously doing something right and have put together a solid team. After all the mess that has went on in the county this week I'm ready to just see this game and yell for our boys along with the rest of the Pirate Nation! I hope the stands and track are packed out tonight to support our boys! Stay focused Pirates! Make them remember in their nightmares the foe they met on their first trip to Beene Stadium and Vic Grider field!! Travel safe today in this rainy weather, Fayetteville fans. And on another note, it's good to read the posts from the Warrior faithful sending support down our way! Good luck to the Warriors against Trousdale. Y'all travel safe up to that hostile creekbank! It's game day!!! Fly the Jolly Roger high and Go Pirates!!!
  19. Pastry you aren't familiar with the situation I was referring to. But that's ok. Lol. Actually yeah I do know what I'm talking about as far as a few threats go. It concerns a couple of Tigers and a Pirate whom I know very well. So it's not a widespread team thing. I expect it'll be handled on the field. Like I said I hope both teams come through without injuries. Whitwell doesn't have much depth due to a small number of players, but they actually have more seniors than I realized because all I've been hearing from some of them is how many freshmen they have. They seem to have struggled with finding stability at the quarterback position so far this year between Tate and Havis. They need to let Ben Petty get a few boys out of the hallways and onto the field playing football. And our Pirates don't need any injuries going into the latter stretch of our schedule. And btw, it should be an interesting game to watch there in Jasper tonight, Purp.
  20. Yes you are right, Ambassador. We do have lots of younger guys playing. But there will be several more who may not normally see alot of playing time get a chance to get out there. I've already heard a few threats from some of the Tigers aimed at one of our players in particular. But it's to be expected... responded to and handled on the field.
  21. Well it's a dull week on here it seems. I couldn't care less about the same old consolidation talk that's floated around for years. But oh well whatever. I enjoy getting on here from time to time checking up on the threads. But seems like it's just getting to be a bunch of mess, to quote Roy. Don't mind some smack talk and such because that's part of it, but some of the posts can get ridiculous at times. Seems every Pirate thread ends up being a SP/Jasper thread. As far as the game this week, yes I expect the younger Pirates to get rotated in heavily if we gain a decent lead. And they will play just as hard as the starters. Hopefully our starters get to heal some because a few are banged up. The latter games in our schedule will be a tough run. Stay healthy, focused and intense. Hit somebody.
  22. Well I've kinda stayed away from here lately. As long as the world as we know it continues on its current course, this game will be very lopsided. Look for some good experience time for the younger Pirates. Like PowerP said, I'm sure just like in the past there will be talk of how Vic "ran up the score on Whitwell". Wrong. He'll sub the younger guys just like he has in the past. A good friend of mine and loyal Tiger supporter always says "I don't want to hear that crap about running up the score. It's up to our defense to stop the other team! We shouldn't wait on them to back off and quit playing." There's truth in those words but regardless, the younger Pirates will get good playing time. Whitwell has struggled for years now. The area had some success in recent years in PeeWee ball with the Wolfpack, but once they hit school ball, it just declines. Lots of folks around just vent like ole JoeWillie, wanting to just take out frustrations on a Pirate. The hitting goes both ways though and the Pirates are coming off of a tough loss so I don't think it'll be pretty. Whitwell should get Ben Petty to help out with High School football. He'd definitely help make a difference. Ben has his detractors, but I've saw him motivate kids to play hard and win. For some reason people just love hating on coaches who win. Just like Vic's haters. Vic has an outstanding program and support staff of great assistants. We tend to get spoiled and yes expectations stay high every year for our Pirates. That's a good thing to have those high expectations and enjoy seeing our boys be successful out there on the field. Be thankful for Vic and our staff. Lots of schools would love to have such coaches and enjoy what we take for granted sometimes. With all of that being said, I hope for an injury free game Friday night for all the guys playing. Stay fired up Orange and Black! And hit somebody! Pirates 49, Tigers 13.
  23. Pegleg I hear those guys from Chattanooga Skydiving will be dropping in to Beene Stadium tonight carrying an American Flag. Are you dropping them out of your airplane as you fly over? Can't wait to get there. Gonna be a great High School football atmosphere tonight
