Clover. The one thing that I think stinks more than anything is a parent or friend of parent that talks bad about someone because their kid or friends kid didn't get what they "thought" they deserved. Is this you??? I know a lot of catholic high parents and not once have I heard anything bad about coach Garland or coach Jones. You sound like you are suffering from the same syndrome the director of KVA/ex bearden coach suffers from. Blaming someone else for the lack of playing time for your kid or friends kid. I love how you say "run off and ruined". That just reeks of no or little playing time so my kid quits or daddy will start his own club!! I have to agree totally with Hardangle. Garland had almost no talent and took his team to the final four. He must really stink!! wink wink

How are you going to play in 7-9 tournaments and keep the cost between $1,000-$1,500? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Unless you are playing in middle school tournaments and wearing gym shorts and a t shirt. You will not be competing in good tournaments though.

Let me answer questions posed to me. btw. this is in no way arguing. this is exactly what this board should be about. Getting different prospectives and ideas to help grow the volleyball community in Knoxville. So I am thankful to everyone on here that post. Hardangle. I am not saying that all those not associated with a club stink. I am saying that I can count on LESS than one hand the number of coaches out there that are good and not associated. Coach Jones and Coach Garland for sure. They could really help the clubs in the area, but for some reason they choose not to. ScottR..Knoxville is by no means close to the Louisville volleyball level. The dynamics of this town is not even close. Let me explain (if you will). For female sports this is a basketball town first and for most. The LEGENDARY Pat Summit has made it that way. Go to the UT girls Basketball games and see what I mean. I wear orange and baby blue for a reason and it's not UT volleyball. The talent level for volleyball in this town is no where near Louisville. The pool of players is no where near Louisville. Unless you get the K2 people to join up with the new people coming in, it will always be an uphill struggle. I personally think that should happen. You might have a lot of girls playing but they will not be able to compete at a high level unless you combine. From what I understand KVA was started because the director got mad at K2 for not putting his daughter on a 1 team. What a terrible reason to start a new club. So now that new club flounders. They have diluted the volleyball teams in the area and they (KVA) can't compete in power tournaments. Now I have a question for you Ross. Why do you say that KVA lacks the desire to exist for more than another year or two?

ScottRoss. This sounds well and good. The problem is this is Knoxville not Chicago. This isn't a "big volleyball market". The people that know volleyball in this town are already aligned with a club. The people that are not aligned with someone are so for a reason. They don't know much. You can have all the money in the world but if the coaches aren't there then good luck. K2 has the market share of talent. The parents and players in this town are VERY loyal. You better bring in Karch Kiraly if you wanna start something that's going to work.

The parents all talked about one person which was the same in all conversations. I've never met this guy so I don't feel right putting his name out there. They didn't talk about the catholic coaches. That was my idea.

I took a look at all the teams web sites so far. Looks like K2 Volleyball Club is much more popular than the other 2. KVA is next and then PR. I remember when PR was really doing well. All 3 clubs are having tournaments in and around Sevierville/Gatlinburg area. The attendance so far via AES web site isn't even close. PR and K2 are having one on the same weekend in January. The way it looks now PR needs to cancel. They will lose money unless the venue isn't charging anything. KVA is having one in February that is just about empty too. The one that K2 is having in January is pretty full. I wonder if the location of the PR and KVA is bad. It's too bad that the clubs couldn't combine and make one big club. It really hurts the area when you have the talent spread so thin. I asked around about the possibility of this happening in the future. Everyone laughed and said that would never happen. Most of them said that the only way there is one club in this area is if the others close down. I had a number of parents tell me that there was one person that could make it happen but he wasn't interested. Maybe the old catholic coach could help the process. What do you think??

Hardangle. Isn't that a shame? That parents run the place over there. Why do you think that is? Is it because they pay tuition so they feel entitled to a say?

If I don't have to talk to any parents at ANY time, then I will take it!!!

I just heard that the 2 best players on the UT squad have asked and have been granted transfer papers.

Sounds like Bearden is in the process and we will find out in the next 2 months.

2players. I happen to agree with all of that. I have witnessed a lot of parent maneuvering in the last 10 years but never to this extreme. I think Phillyal is probably right on target. Opening up a new club in order to make sure of a "1" team position and then hiding behind the pretense of (you are doing it so others can have an alternative) is very funny. Like I said I've seen a lot of parent "posturing" for their kid but this one ranks far and away the highest.

A 2-34 conference record gets anyone released. trying to figure out why this hasn't happened yet. I do understand that they are a young team but this id D1 volleyball. 2-34 SHOULD be unacceptable. It would be if it was the football team. There are too mnay good coaches out there to keep this one around. Should be out!

Hardangle gave me this thought when he mentioned Rob Patrick and coach Jones. What are your thoughts on how things are going over on the hill?

I think any school would love to have Coach Jones on their sideline. Looks like UT could use him write now.

philly. That's s good one. The agenda is very well known. Even the parents from KVA (that I talk to) know what it is. If you ask them behind closed doors they will tell you. Not only will they tell you that , but they will tell you what they believe will happen to KVA soon. That's pretty interesting.

philly. I have to give it to you. You came with the goods a long time ago and it was all true. I also have to admit that I doubted you. I thought you were just an upset parent. I have since checked with others and they all have the same story. I will not doubt you any more. I wish I was right about the ex coach. I thought he was a stand up guy. I don't know everything I guess. It is hard for me to believe a person would do that though. Don't know any other parents that would go as far as he did in order to get his "agenda" (philly's words) pushed through. Some may call it a good parent, I have the opposite thought. Your child is not going to be babied all their life and the sooner they learn the ways of the world (on their own) the better they will be.

I'll answer that too. Scott I have no idea on this green earth why it can't happen.

Hardangle asked Philly if the catholic job was being searched yet. I will chime in and say, we all know that catholic bows down to one sport and one sport only FOOTBALL. They could care less about the others. They can say what they want but its true. They are just like Grace. The only way they care about volleyball is if a girl that plays volleyball has a brother that is really good in football and they want him to enroll. Then they will go after sister to get brother

k2r Please advise if you are reporting rumors or facts. Mincey has not been asked to take the Bearden job. Look on the website and see if the job is even posted. Please state whether you are talking rumors or facts. Also the man's name is Keeble not Keebler.

Thanks for correcting me. I thought he was the head coach. So I still stand behind my question. Just put in asst coach instead of head coach.

k2r. from what I'm hearing I would agree with that statement. 2players. Yes this person will shoot straight to the AD. He/she knows the volleyball environment VERY well and will help with this decision. Also has no dog in the fight, just knows the environment and wants ALL the girls to succeed. Kind of an old school thought though. Not too many people stay involved when they don't have a dog in the fight.
