  1. Be kind. We made it through without a Gordonsville @Clay co thread and i was hoping no one saw the need for this one. Not sure anything positive can come from it, other than letting people know of game day change and location.
  2. I will be at the battle for Wilson Co; Mt.Juliet @ Wilson Central. Two top 10 teams in 6A.
  3. I'm not trying to stir the pot, but what exactly are you expecting? We all know the format, whether we like it or not is based on wins, not strength of schedule or whether or not you're a district champion. That being said under this format (which will not change this year) South Pitt is at best a 3 seed in quad 1 or 2, and that really depends on how you fare Friday night. Sidebar, would a loss to Grace bump you to the Moore Co side of the bracket? Knowing only the 1 or 2 seeds host the second round; just out of curiosity, which 1 or 2 seed spot do you think you deserve, Moore, Gordonsville, Greenback, or Coalfields?
  4. I completely agree, but nobody asks me. A couple things I'd like to see that would be very dangerous on defenses. 1. When a defense plays 8 or 9 in the box against Gville, and it will happen in the playoffs or the other teams aren't even trying to win, a GREAT addition to the playbook would be on the jet sweep that they run 30 times a game, leak a tight end out across the grain to the weak side. He'd be wide open almost every time because the D is so focused on trying to stop the Gville rushing attack. 2. I'd like to see Peyton Watson take just a little more time and make accurate throws. He has all the time in the world behind that O line; it's not about showing off your arm strength, its about accuracy. Many times this season when they've tried to hit the tight end over the middle, he's ALWAYS wide open, but over half the time Watson tries to be Favre and it ends up on the ground. When someone is wide open, take just a fraction longer and lay the ball in there. He's better than he has shown this year in the passing game. I hate when every deep out looks like he's throwing a hail marry, even those passes can be better thrown. No offense to A.J. Long at Friendship, but most of his passes don't look like touch, they look like they've just been thrown up for grabs and pray your receiver comes down with it, his do, but Gville's may not, the deeper we go. Of course I'm nitpicking, because they are really good even if they continue with what they've been doing. I'm just hoping we have a plan when it isn't going like we want it. We are a "here we come, try and stop us" kind of team. Well, what happens if someone does? But then again, If it ain't broke,,,,?
  5. Come watch Gordonsville play South Pittsburg, it will be EPIC!
  6. Gordonsville's QB Watson and RB Cason run downhill on EVERYBODY! The only disadvantage that this duo has, in regards to the Mr. Football awards, is the fact that they rarely ever see play in the second half of games. In the last game against Clay Co., they left the game with 6 minutes to go in the second quarter. Their already impressive numbers would be much, MUCH greater if they had the opportunity to play every game, all game. Thankfully though, the coaches don't want to rub it in the opponents face by putting 70 or 80 pts on the board every game. To me, we've shown a great amount of sportsmanship this year. If there is a "Sportsmanship" award given by the TSSAA, Gville's coaches should get it, which to me is justified because that is the only reason that either Watson, or Cason fail to win Mr. Football back, and Coen, or Payne fail to win Mr. Football lineman, because they don't get to pile up video game numbers (which they almost have anyway). Do yourself a favor this year; when your team is eliminated from the playoffs, come watch this Gordonsville team play. They're a great bunch of kids. Only once in a blue moon, (unless your South Pitt) do you get a group like this in 1A ball. This team could've duplicated their record this year (9 and 1 after Thursday) playing a 3a or 4a schedule. Every position is two-deep with quality Seniors, except RB Cason, who is a junior. BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS !!!!!!
  7. This is my two cents on what i didnt like about last night and moving forward. 1. We looked confused on D when Watertown came out in 5 wide. They moved the ball 40 yards in 2 or 3 plays because we weren't prepared to adjust. (We need to prepare ourselves to see alot of what we arent expecting from teams in the playoffs because they know the uphill battle they face when playing Gville this year. Expect normal but prepare for everything. It will take ingenuous play calling to beat the big blue this yr but someone may figure that out.) 2. The two punt returners are going to get is burned by someone. You're leaving your D in an 11 on 9 position that someone is going to take adcantage of. And IF it happens, it could be just the momentum changer that another team needed to swing the game. (I also think having 1 returner back wouldve prevented that snafu that led to the ball being downed at the one.) That is all. Fix a few things and good luck to the Tigers the rest of the way.
  8. The playoffs are great; The quadrants suck; Please let the Pirates, Come to us! (While rubbing a lucky rabbit's foot) This is definitely going to be a fun post-season. But as with playoffs in every sport, be ready for at least one huge upset. One of the number 1's will go down. However, if the guy is right about Moore Co being a number 1 over Gordonsville, then there could be two 1's go down before the semis.
  9. I believe it was ib response to the guy that said Gordonsville would have no chance against Moore Co and someone responded Gville would beat them by 28pts. Then others chimed in with other predictions, such as mercy rule.
  10. I am a Gville fan that is impressed with Aj Long, and cant even imagine the numbers he'll put up next year when the new wide receiver recruits hit campus to restock the departing senior class. Peyton Watson doesnt have a chance to get recruited by a big-time program ONLY because of his size. Fcs handles business against Trousdale. Unfortunately they smell blood in the water thanks to Trousdales performance thus far.
  11. Here's my take for what it's worth. One of the 2 South Pitt RB's probably deserve it, but they'll split votes between them. Although Gville's candidates will put up impressive numbers, they arent a one-pony show so one of them may only make a finalist but not win it. No disrespect to the west, which i admittedly haven't seen but i think it's Aj Longs award to win simply because he is living up tp the pre-season hype. On the defensive side, i have no clue. My heart wishes that Coen from Gville would win in, but so far, he actually looked more impressive last yr, when the linebacker from South Pitt won it.
  12. Ding, Ding, Ding, we've got a winner; 1 guy in the school's history, and you guessed it. The point is that if the "athletes" in the school don't play football, they eventually won't be playing football, when they continue to barely have enough to field a team.
  13. Things should be shook up a bit with at least 3 teams on the list going down last night.
  14. Slim's idea may not be all that bad. It could allow them to grow in skill level while building up their roster. There's no rule preventing them from eventually jumping to 11 man football down the road. Here's the main reason this won't happen; the gate, they may not have 20 fans in the stands but when the opposing team brings 500 to 1000 ticket buyers, the school is making their best money of the year. BUT, here's the real root of their problem, the best athletes at Pickett Co wont play because of mommy and daddy. Pickett Co is still a basketball school with basketball parents and none of the parents want to risk little johnny getting hurt by mean ole football players and possibly losing a college scholarship in round ball. Hey, someone help refresh my memory, anyone know of a big time D1 success in B-ball coming from Pickett Co???? Eventually this attitude might've changed, if they wouldve had some success by now, but the odds are stacked against them and so the best athletes sit in the stands while the tough kids grind it out. It's kind of embarrassing to think these bball and baseball guys are sitting in the stands and the Pickett Co roster has been rounded out with the girls in the school because they have pride enough to try and help their team. I'll never bash the Pickett Co team, theyre doing the best they can with what they have. Each year i hear where Pickett Co dressed 28 to start the season, then by game 3, 5 have been hurt. Last night they dressed 13, WOW THAT'S SCARY RIGHT THERE, and then i have to start wondering if theyll even have 11 players by the time they play Gordonsville and dont have to forfeit . Here's hoping they can figure something out up there.
  15. Croz, i apologize that i don't know who you are but ive parked in your yard many times. Lol.
  16. I would argue that neither play any "good" 1 A competition til the 3rd and sometimes 4th rounds of the playoffs. The cream always rises and its usually only 4 or 5 out of 1A.
  17. Friendship is a very good team. They could repeat in 2A, IF they can stay healthy. As for Trousdale, although they're down this year, they are just as much a psychological stumbling block for the Tigers as South Pitt has been. So, even though it was a blow out, it was a huge step for the Tigers. Their first three games were very big for this team not only physically but psychologically. Now, while South Pitt gets into the meat of their schedule, Gordonsville is using the rest of their opponents to get better. There's really no way to know which schedule is best, whether front loaded or rear loaded, but we will hopefully get to find out in November.
  18. All kidding aside regarding the constant ridiculing of how many seniors Gordonsville has. Yes, sometimes senior leadership is over rated. Juniors that stink more than likely will be seniors that stink. Here's the difference with this group that Gordonsville has; they are winners, theyre not taking anything for granted, and theyre showing signs of maturity that everyone assumes they haven't learned. Ive watched the last couple weeks as they demolished Trousdale and then Monterey, players coming off the field after a big play or big stop and still asking questions of the coaches and wanting to learn how to get better. As the mercy rule clock was running, theyre still wanting to learn. Some of the intelligent questions that i heard the players ask about specific formations or alignment during certain sets, leads me to believe the Tigers will be very strong, not only physically but mentally, rolling into this years playoffs. Although we as fans are hoping for the eventual playoff game between Gordonsville and South Pitt, the team is doing a great job of a game at a time.
  19. Here's the problem with guessing an opponents score. Youre basing any educated guess with the probability that the opposing team will be playing Gvilles 2nd and 3rd string the entire second half. Monterey starters scored 8 against the Tiger subs in the second half the other night when theys have never scored against the first team. So it is possible that jackson co could score 12, but know this; the game will be well in hand. One little known fact from the Gordonsville-Monterey game, Monterey scored their only TD when Gville only had 10 on the field. It was a mix up while trying to get the subs cycled in and out without calling a timeout and thereby stopping the clock.
  20. i meant to say Monterey, my bad. Anyway, i hope it's something new. Get a chance to play teams we dont see that often.
  21. Can someone explain the supposed restructuring of this years playoffs? Do we know or when will we know which quadrant we'll be matched with in the first couple rounds? Are we looking at a Lookout Valley, Watertown (assuming they can win round 1), Moore Co, South Pitt kinda road again?
  22. Don't know if it's possible but id love to see Gordonsville play the west the first couple rounds. Last yr, Nashville Christian is the furthest team west that we played. I think our guys would love a shot at Clarksville Academy, Huntingdon, Union City, Columbia Academy, or Collinwood. Let's meet South Pitt in the championship for a change. Lol
  23. Maybe because there are 5 better teams? Look at my choices for Top 5, all those schools are mercy ruling everyone, except for Gordonsville and Huntingdon, but I'd argue thats because they've been playing tougher talent thus far. Gvilles schedule was extremely front loaded. Except for maybe a little test against Westmoreland and Watertown, Gville is coasting til the playoffs.
  24. Gordonsville wont win by 50 for two reasons. 1. They never run up the score. Mercy rule, so the clock keeps running is all theyre looking for; short and quick games with everyone staying healthy. 2. Our second string can't score because they can't hold on to the ball. Lol
