  1. Almost all would be students are granted eligibility initially. If other info comes to light that when there can be problems. According to the Commercial Appeal, The initial certification was made in May. Memphis was subsequently notified that there was a possible error made and an eligibility issue was possible. And that there would have to be further investigation. My point is I'm just not sure what else the NCAA can do when they become aware that there "may be" a significant rule violation by a head coach. I just don't see that they have much choice in this case regardless of any initial eligibility granted or ungranted in the spring. Looks to me like they should have finished investigating and made a ruling way before November....but that's another topic.
  2. I'm confused. There appears to have been a significant violation of a rule about boosters. The NCAA became aware of the potential violation. They declared player ineligible and began an investigation. I don't see how that makes the NCAA inept. What should they do when a violation of this type appears to have occurred? There are plenty of examples of the NCAA bungling things.... at this point, I don't see what they've bungled.
  3. They aren't in the same school system. Two very different counties.
  4. Rockwood and Coalfield in 3a. Lookout Valley and CSAS in 4a.
  5. Looks like heading into tourney time, they are healthy... but there hasn't been much, if any, improvement defensively for CF. They stand flat footed out front and smack at people going by on the perimeter leaving tons of open space to attack. At this point, it just doesn't look like it's gonna happen for them. Biggest team in the district and yet still chucking 3s left and right most games I've seen.... and at a LOW percentage. If that goes on... and Mckinney has a mediocre night offensively, they likely clank themselves out of it. I could see four, maybe even five of the 6 teams remaining winning this tourney. OD & Harriman I guess are slight favorites, but I could see either ending up 4th.... or 1st. No really strong teams going in. This could be one of the easiest paths to the state tourney ever for the winner.
  6. Nah, I don't think so. They've played pretty consistently all year. They aren't very big overall and teams can take advantage of that at times. Both the Harriman and Oneida games could have gone either way. AC is mediocre, but still a much larger school. The district tourney is pretty much a tossup going in, OD has as much of a shot as three or four other teams. I could see them finishing anywhere between 1 & 4. They shoot and move the ball pretty well, plus hustle defensively, but their lack of size could do them in on a given night vs either Harriman, Oneida or CF. All three of those teams are much bigger. Going in....Harriman and OD are probably slight favorites over the second group of WB, RW, CF and Oneida. CF probably has the highest ceiling of all 6, but it doesn't look like they're going to figure it out this year. Good size, No knock-down shooters, yet they still like to stand and clank 3s. WB is hit or miss....unlikely to hit 3 games in a row. Oneida could surprise a team or two; decent size/skill on the block. RW likely out early, but capable of a win one or two.
  7. Yea, he's a plus 25 kind of player for them. That will be be enough in most games in this district. Come tourney time though, they have to be a lot better defensively, cut down TOs and be able to move the ball in the half court. Last night's game, for example, wasn't that close, but some of their issues let Harriman back within 10 late. Roster-wise, they can get there... the district tourney and region look very winnable with him and some team improvements as they go along.
  8. Back in action tonight. OD vs. OS will be ugly. CF vs RW could go either way with the way CF is playing right now, as could Oneida vs. SB Through December, Oakdale is far and away #1, Harriman #2....coin toss after that...RW, WB, Oneida, CF and SB. WB has been hit or miss. RW and Oneida are OK. both a lot better than last year. CF has been pretty weak without Mckinney...shooting twenty+ 3s a game ( at a low %) and not playing much defense. They have a good roster, but haven't played like it thus far. SB looked clearly improved to me, but doesn't have any depth.
  9. CF clearly isn't ready for prime time at this point...that's understandable... new coach, football and best player out. Defense is a major work in progress... actually, they didn't seem to have one in the games I saw. Plus, they shot waaay too many bad 3s to beat quality teams. Must have shot 30 or more in each the couple games I saw. Kept missing, just kept shooting. I'm sure they'll improve moving forward. OD clearly the frontrunner out of the gate.... much better second time I saw them. #2 much less clear after that point. WB seems erratic as well.
  10. That's very true, Hicks is playing very well and OD is currently the top team as well. With Mckinney missing a good chunk of games, Hicks may well win it this year. Mckinney won it last year and when healthy, is the best player in the district and likely region as well. But I could definitely see Hicks winning it... and it certainly would be deserved to this point.
  11. Tonight: Oneida v Harriman Battle of the middle teams? OS v Midway Each teams best chance for a district win this year CF v Oakdale CF struggling early without the district's best player. OD playing pretty well WB v Rockwood WB should take this one
  12. Finally got a chance to see OD play. Really struggled with a Stone Mem team that I doubt finishes anywhere near .500 If they're the best team in the district... then the district has slipped significantly this year. (IMO, Would have been 5th, at best, last year in d4a) I've just seen them once, so maybe it was just an off game. But not much size, tallest player that played a lot looked maybe 6 foot tall, 6'1 max with shoes....one impact player with 5 or 6 solid role players. Really miss the Smith kid that graduated. Pretty good hustle overall, not very athletic. Really limited both sides of ball on the interior. Moved the ball pretty good, appeared to be able to shoot fairly decently... At this point, I'd be stunned if either (WB (seen twice) or OD) wins a region game...unless this new region (with new district 4 )is just really, really weak. Still early though, could change.
  13. Saw that, SB lost pretty big to harriman. OD looks like the team to beat with Mckinney is out for CF. They throttled WB pretty good last night. Seeing Wb just once, I thought they were OK, at best. Might get better as the year goes on. Saw CF twice...they were not very good, to say the least, in their first & 2nd games (WB & Clay). Looked like they beat MW badly last night...not sure if MW is bad or what...but the score looked it.
  14. Not really. Speculation sounded bad early on...but last "hearsay" I heard was back by Christmas. 2nd or 3rd hand though. But it did sound like he'd be back at some point.
  15. New district here. Combo of previous 3 & 4A. Looks pretty wide open with GCA and Meigs gone. Teams: Harriman, Midway, Rockwood, Oneida, Coalfield, Sunbright, Wartburg, Oakdale and Oliver Springs. Harriman lost a ton, Coalfield probably has strongest roster, but gets a late start practice-wise, plus a new coach. OD is pretty well rounded. Wb has been sluggish early on. Matchups start tonight: Harriman v. Oakdale, Coalfield v. WB, SB v. MW and Rockwood v. OS Who wins tonight? Who wins it come February?
