  1. i assume he's saying if you cherry pick your players(GCA), not teams, you ought to be able to play larger schools.
  2. I can't imagine CF finishing lower than 3rd much less not making region. To be honest, they have a pretty good shot at 1st. We'll see how it plays out....but to lose a play-in game given the struggles of the bottom of the district seems near impossible; short of a mass illness on the team.
  3. I must say... Very surprised to see OD dispose of Harriman at Harriman. Might be time to give the Eagles some credit...
  4. yes, CF played well. It was never even close. They're better than Farragut, but not that much better. Farragut plays Maryville tonight...I think maybe they played a larger rotation to rest some kids more. Curious to see if Thursday's game a FHS looks quite a bit different... I don't think losing at home by that margin again would go over very well.
  5. gym size requirements. I think the MC schools want to keep it there. CF, OD and SB aren't big enough. Keeps it more central in district as well. Not sure about Jellico & Oneida....Just looking at gyms, they look as big(or bigger) than WB....? And OS...well, it's a tad rough...wouldn't want to play there for sure regardless of size.
  6. Really shouldn't make a ton of difference. All four very likely will match up after play-in games. I could see any of the four making the finals. I don't really see how 5 -7 pull an upset in play-in games. It's at WB... that'll will make them a slight favorite... whether they're #1 or #2 to start. 2, 3,4 after tourney are very likely done 1st round of region....gotta win tourney to feel like you have a chance to advance at all in region play.

    Top 1A teams

Coalfield returns essentially everyone from a 4a championship team and will add a couple of very good players this year as well. Sounds like it's the best group they've had since last state tourney appearance. The Morgan kid gives them a chance against most anyone if they can score a few runs. Tough to beat GCA, but 4a puts the occasional team in the state tourney.
  8. I thought that might get you in trouble...ha. It hasn't been too many years that GCA was one of those (teddy bears). They have done a good job building a program. Many small schools have what they have (which can be improved) but just within certain limitations.
  9. They certainly have the players....(expect for zero post play) to win more than they have in d4 this year and they have the coaching. But when you have a couple kids that you need to really get after it and they don't.... Then they become very average very quickly. They just aren't talented enough to coast through on most nights. Some kids never figure out the attitude and effort variable.... That should be the easiest one. It's one thing if you have a roster to park them at the end of the bench... But if you don't have a roster to do that...then what? I guess you start three freshmen and hope it helps the others in the attitude/effort variable.
  10. hats off to OS tonight. It was obvious from the get go that if they got a shot off...it stood an 75% chance of going in...happy for coach Ingram... Tough year for him and I'm sure to play that well against CF was fun. Having said that...sorry to say it, but the CF coaches get an F on the night. You're missing two inside players...and it's obvious that every shot they shoot is gonna go in...how in the world can you sit in a zone for over 2 qtrs and watch them make shot after shot? They have ONE guard.... ONE. You have 7...and a huge advantage athletically. Your advantage is to go pressure and out athlete them... What is the advantage of a zone with2 inside kids not playing? Finally did...in 3rd qtr, and cut an 18 pt lead to 2 in final min... Tough one to watch.
  11. I agreed with you 100%... until I realized a GB poster was showing some hoops knowledge?!?! GB...basketball...when are you all going start recruiting as hard in basketball? just kidding! I think Harriman wins one of the two vs GCA this year. GCA is down a starter, I think.
  12. I hear you, but they lost by 11 in the 2nd rd of region.... That's the reality. It was obviously a big disappointment for OD. That was the best team they've had in many years and to only get there and lose by double digits. The point was, how ironic it would be for this year's team to get through...considering it is weaker. I hope a 4a team gets through...but it is VERY unlikely. The top two 3a teams are better this yr than last...the top three 4a teams are a little weaker this year.
  13. ....Would WB be better if Fountain was out? or if 7 of WBs top 9 players were settling in from FBall players when they met? Of course not. OD caught them coming out of football and down a starter on won in OT on a fluky play. They clearly had been playing much better, then had two starters hurt and OD won in closing secs. Hats off to OD, but CF at 100% is a good bit better than them. Injuries can happen, players can be out....that's just part of it. Hopefully everyone for all d4 teams are 100% in tourney and we'll see how it shakes out. Going in, I would take CF and WB over OD & Jellico... I'd say WB sweeps OD in their two games. Are you lost now?
  14. Football takes a good month to get over and get together. We'll see about them soon...they play kingston twice, GCA twice and meigs again. I had my doubts early on..after seeing them...they're better than they have been last few yrs...a good bit better. Not saying OD has NO chance, ...they're a decent 1A team... but GCA and Harriman (and maybe Meigs as well) are heads above OD (and the rest of 4a) on most nights. I'll be pulling for the 4a schools...but I've seen what I've seen.
  15. OD has near zero chance in region. They are just a decent single A team...that's it. GCA and Hman are 20+ better than them on most days. Ask WB about their trip to harriman. Now what would be ironic is if OD won with this team after stinking it up last year in region with a much better team. Last year was likely their chance to get out of region and they played poorly against a good GCA team and got beat soundly. This team is decidedly weaker than last year. GCA and Hman are better this yr.... Hman is much better than last year.
  16. CF having kid(s) out wasn't a hypothesis, it was a fact. Facts are not hypothetical. Those facts led to my opinion which may or may not come true. I've seen both teams a few times...I think OD was very fortunate twice getting CF with a short roster and that CF is 10+ points better than OD at 100%. They are currently 0-2 at much less than 100%, that's a fact. Take out any small school's 2nd best player and it hurts. I hear you on the zoning, you see a problem, some don't...but if a kid moves under the current rules... they move. They don't belong to anyone. If the rules change, then they change. Some other kids will move under those rules. Both kids you referred to operate under current rules... They/nor anyone else are OD/whoever's kids. People move for many reasons, end of story. OD is/was absolutely terrible in fball....if that was a reason, so be it...
  17. No...if they were OD kids, they would be at OD. They are not, so they are NOT OD's kids. If kid X goes to elementary school Y...it's not a LIFE SENTENCE. People do not have to live in the same place forever. One of those kids went there in 5th grade...he's a junior, goodness,6 years ago...A school does not own/control a family's decisions forever. The other moved this year...so be it. I noticed one from CF at another school back in the fall... he/she moved away...that's it...it's over.
  18. yea, it was a good game. OD seems to have had a lot of luck on their side twice now against CF. down 2 starters last nite... One played some, but not moving well. Doubt things shake out the same in February.
  19. Yea, looks like Harriman and GCA are region faves at this point.
  20. From what I've seen of both teams, CF should win at home fairly handily... so they probably won't. I thought WB would win at home vs CF ... nope. They've shaken off FBall...finally, and are playing much better. OD has two quality players, but they drop off quickly after that. CF is deeper even with a starter out. You never know with HS though, off nights happen....heck, I think Lenoir city beat Bearden the other night....bizarre. LC lost to oliver springs for goodness sake...OS?! and then beat Bearden.
  21. Agreed. I think they will beat Jellico and OD pretty soundly at CF.... so this one is important. Don't want to be 0-2 vs WB in the standings.
  22. CF/WB tonight... Wb seems to be playing well, as is CF. CF expended alot of energy winning at King's Academy last night, that may affect them somewhat. Injured starter as well. Still probably the best two teams in d4 now that football seems to have worn off the CF kids...It took a while. Mckinney starting to show that he may be the top player in d4. Having said that, I like WB by 8 at home.
  23. yea, they would have a chance on a good night... But Harriman is a good 10+ pts better on most nights. More athletic and better shooting overall than either of those four from d4. This Harriman team is a good bit better than the last couple of years. I think Harriman has a good shot to beat GCA once this year....Good shot....not great shot.
