Just got home from DB at South Greene, SG matched up well with DB and outshot and out rebounded the Indians for the entire first half. Second half was different, as DB shot and rebounded better and took the game away from a surprised South Greene team.

DB players of note were #20 post and #2, who looks like he spends lots of time in the weight room. Any chance he's on the football team at DB?

It was a game worth watching, Congrats to Dobyns Bennett for never quitting. There was a sparse crowd from Kingsport, which didn't seem to have any effect on the Indians, who won a game in a very difficult place to play a road game.

It was a good game.  2nd half it seemed like SG played a little too soft and let their feet off the gas.  A lot of pushing and grabbing jerseys in the 2nd half. Both teams could’ve played smarter on defense.  SG made some silly fouls there at the end, including a flagrant that pushed the game out of reach.  I don’t think it should have been called a flagrant, but I don’t think it would’ve matter??? DB got the momentum and coach Poor’s 4th qtr coaching helped the team keep it and get the victory. SG was definitely the better team on the court tonight, but credit to the DB players and coaches for keeping their feet on the gas. As this DB team keeps maturing, they’re gonna be tough, especially next season. SG is good and I think they have a legitimate shot. Looking forward to seeing how they do come bracket time.

I listened to it.  They were without Roderick and sounded like Hampton shot well.

Poor officiating as well; horrible!  Hampton had the fake charge stance perfected.

SG lost because they didn’t rebound, play defense, and some playing was lack luster.

I will say that Hampton is good and their record is miss leading.

Both of these teams are good.

    I guarantee you're wrong........because you've never been right.

I was there tonight. DB has a good team. Tonight, it was about match ups. My opinion is SG out matched DB. SG has plenty of length, good ball handlers, and the shooters to boot. 3 of SG’s key contributors fouled out tonight and was still able to get out of there with a W. The guys that came in off the bench played well.
SG, they’re good! They have the pieces and the coach, just need to play a little smarter and stay healthy. I gotta a good feeling about this team. It’s a long season and 1 game at a time.

DB’s solid and will be okay.  I could see them being a handful in the post season.

Exactly. Greeneville is catching blocks, and UHS is giving blocks. Greeneville needs to get more physical. UHS needs to sure up the pass defense.

Congrats to Upperman. Very good football. Did not make many mistakes & won the line of scrimmage. I’ll be pulling for the East. Now go and get your 1st Championship.

Congrats to Greeneville. Great season and nothing to be ashamed of. There’s a lot of football teams that would have loved to have had the opportunity to just be playing tonight.

  5. Logic say ER, but I can’t shake York. Not an easy pick. It’s a toss up and when it’s that close, I gotta go with the home field team.  Probably gonna be a barn burner.

  6. Great game tonight! The Mavs Qb played a heck of a game. I like the adjustments G made in the 2nd half on O. G’s Defense layed the wood and shut down the run game and made AC one dimensional. Big QB sack there at end to keep AC out the end zone. Congrats to Mav fans on a great season.

It’s now time to add some more additives to G fire and go smoke out some bees.

It happens, still proud of these younguns. Seems like we always lose this time of year.

Getting to the qtr final is no easy task. Seems like SG always loses in the 1st/2nd Rd. They’ve only been to the qtr’s 1 time and got drilled by Meigs. I feel pretty good about next season :). I’m sure your Dogs will be right there in the mix as well. Goes by way too fast my friend.  Maybe I’ll run into you at a game where that round ball bounces. Have a blessed weekend. Congrats on a heck of a season.

All good points, but at this time of year and in a Quarterfinal playoff game, give me a Mr Football and better athletes that can take over a game any time. And ER has the better athletes in this one.

I can't say I know a ton about either and my 2 cents, well it's only worth 2 cents :).  I've watched a couple of games of both.

ER, I would agree with a couple of kids having a slight edge on athleticism.

SMC, looks to me they have some good, experienced seniors & their presence is noticeable. The whole TEAM seems to have good discipline.  Good Combination.

it was probably a difficult pick for some. Should be a great game to attend.

  9. Here's my picks.  I am struggling with the Moore & Mckenzie.  I wanted to pick Mckenzie, but I've seen very little on them.  Moore Co is good on the perimeter and team speed looks good.   Can someone convince me why I shouldn't pick Moore Co & Pick Mckenzie before the door closes?  My ears are open.

That was the only one I questioned. Dead ball fouls were mostly running their mouths excessively. And a ton of offsides. The big holding on the td run the kid knew and we saw it the stands before it was tossed. Anyone who knows knows I like hit ‘em in the mouth football. A good call by the officials for the type of ball you and I like was when our tough as nails junior lber lit a receiver up. Problem was the ball was 3-4 yds over his head and landed15 yds later. The receiver w had brought his hands down and was gearing down as well as the defender with him. College led with helmet, out next game, NFL A fine. High school 15 yds. I love the high school rules. Still a tough game and I’ll take that penalty any day. But still a penalty.

Yes some call in that game was needed. I should’ve mentioned in general throughout the season, and not just in the Greene games. Things have changed in the game, but not all bad.

Most of our penalties were well earned. It’s been a problem for about 3 years. This is a special team if they can eliminate the penalties.

Maybe I am looking through a different set of lenses, but I think at least OR close to half of those are because kids are playing hard and fast. Men in stripes get a little to trigger happy with the flag throwing.  Watched the game again Gibbs and a flag was thrown against Greene supposedly because it was a late hit.  Greene clearly hit the guy inbounds, but momentum of both carried them across the white line. That flag should have never been thrown. Greene plays smash mouth football and some just don’t like it.

Broke his arm early in our game, played the rest of the game on both sides of the ball, Played a heck of a game, TOUGH kid.

I would think he’ll be even better in 2024.  He has improved/grown much since the start of the 2022 season. From what I understand he had attended some Qb camps the offseason and has plans to do the same this offseason as well. As a team, I would expect them to be much better next season. There’s a push to get the strength and conditioning program to a higher level and encouraging all to attend some kind of camp. They should have more depth as well. Expectations should be higher. This is all good, but at the end of the day as a team they gotta be more disciplined and that’s starts at the top. It would be nice to see them make it to the big dance in my lifetime, or any Greene County school for that matter. With how the county’s growing quickly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the consolidation of schools come back on the market sooner than later. Who knows?

You are blitzing everyone and having a spy. They will screen and quick pass you to death. You just made it easier for their OC. Also remember those offenses are not hard to scheme. Bledsoe can line up and announce the play before the snap. That doesn’t mean you will stop it. Hampton is the exact same way. Are your 10 better than my 10. If not you better hope the 1 vs 1 is because if not, I’m going for 20 plus yards. My goal is to get a 1 on 1 with your safety. If you can’t prevent that, I’m getting atleast 5 yards on every  play.

You maybe 100% correct.  You gotta catch the pass 1st. Both teams have dropped passes. If the QB is under distress all night long and trying to throw on the run it makes it more difficult to hit the target (screen or down the field). And from what I’ve seen, either QB is no Patrick Mahomes or a Bryce Young when it comes to throwing under distress. 3 things can happen when passing; A catch by the receiver, an incomplete pass, or an interception by the opponent (2 odds to 1).  It’s about match ups.

I do like the short screen passes, but you gotta have a Qb to get the ball out quickly and accurate and a receiver with good hands. I’m not a coach and that’s probably why :).  Your probably light years ahead of me when it comes to the x’s & o’s, schemes etc. :thumb:

I thought Hampton got more pressure on SG’s starting QB, then Bledsoe got on the backup QB for SG. If I’ve got the dudes that can create chaos in the backfield, I’m gonna bring it until it doesn’t work, then adjust accordingly.
