  1. You have hit the nail on the head! If you look at CPA in the last 4 years they have 2 gold balls and 2 semifinal losses. During the last 4 years there have been teams in their district who may have lost 4 games to them in district, district tournament, region tournament and also are faced with knowing that there will only be one team (besides CPA) coming out of their region instead of two. There are no telling how many players have not made an all-district team, all-district tournament team and all-region team- because it is always loaded with players from the AAU team (oops, I mean CPA). It is no wonder that there are so many haters out there. It is also no wonder that people are so happy to see them lose- it is all really sad and it is not good for Tennessee HS basketball.
  2. Who had the technical fouls and what appeared to be the reason for them? Just curious.
  3. Most teams want out of CPA's district- because of the "unlevel" playing field. 10AA didn't want them and I am sure nobody in 12AA wants them either. Unless something changes- nobody will want them. Now with the Las Vegas/Iowa/CPA 8th grade point guard sensation- they have 4 more years to bring in some "new talent" to displace some current CPA basketball player so the machine can continue after Blackwell graduates next year.
  4. Latest tweet from Coach Maddux- confirms that Campbell has been named #1 player (not just point guard) in the Class of 2019 by Future150 - only problem with their listing is that it shows his location as Cedar Rapids, Iowa- oops- that was last year!!!!!! Funniest response to the tweet is from some guy who tweeted Coach Maddux and said "you just keep developing stars don't you?"- I don't think even Coach Maddux can take credit for developing Campbell's star- think that had already happened.
  5. It is somewhat amusing (unless you have to play against them)- in the good ole days Coach Maddux would pull from middle Tennessee (or maybe even Knoxville)- now to build the pipeline he had to go all the way to Cedar Rapids Iowa to get the current #1 PG in the class of 2019. But he is proud- he has already posted an Instagram of his new 8th grade sensation PG (Tyger Campbell) throwing an alley oop to Braxton Blackwell. Nothing like drawing attention to the latest CPA Lion to arrive on campus.
  6. Thanks for the info- I hate to see that decide a game one way or the other.
  7. I was certainly not involved in basketball in Middle Tennessee at the time that Coach Maddux was at Goodpasture- back in the early 90's- but my understanding has always been that the "architect" of that basketball team (which included Ron Mercer and Sam Howard) was Coach Maddux's dad- so I suspect that this may be a learned behavior. Perhaps some people who did have involvement back in the 90's would like to weigh in????
  8. I agree with Coach Brooks. I have watched CPA play many times over the last several years- and I have heard all about the TN teams that were going to knock them off their pedestal- but unfortunately I have yet to witness it- so I hope Cheatham County does it- but I am not betting the house or holding my breath!
  9. Pretty sure that was a play day last year before the season actually began- i.e. not a regular season game.
  10. I need someone to clarify something for me- last month there was an article in the Tennessean that talked about Braxton Bonds' assist to turnover ratio and indicated that it was 8-1. Then you had a quote from Coach Maddux about what an amazing stat that was. My question is what period of time was that for- it seems to indicate it is for this year (probably right after the Cascade game where they won by 61 and according to Coach Maddux there were 35 assists in that game). While I agree that Braxton is a great point guard and can dish out a lot of assists and does not turn the ball over a lot- I find it amazing that once Coach Maddux and the Tennessean discuss an 8-1 ratio- that everybody believes it and it suddenly becomes fact. Its funny- the only people that don't seem to believe it is the Flames Nation (for Liberty University sports)- on their website where they discuss how recruits are doing- they rehash the same stats as in the Tennessean article- except on Assists to Turnover ratio they show 3-1. Some CPA person who knows let me know- is it 8-1 or 3-1?
  11. But is that enough for CPA? I still think they will try to find him some help.
  12. That is good and I mentioned him- but that won't be enough of a pipeline for Coach Maddux to try and win a four-peat (assuming the three-peat happens). So, you should prepare for an influx of players.
  13. Coach Maddux is going to need to land somebody for next year- otherwise- Braxton Blackwell is going to be very lonely. No offense to any of the remaining non seniors- but the pipeline does not appear to be completely full. Other than Blackwell the others appear to be Howell (who is out now) and Davis. So it will be interesting to see who is landed to complement Blackwell. I am sure everyone will be watching and waiting.
  14. Correction noted- I was always told that it was Blackwell that played in the Station Camp game- but that was apparently incorrect.
  15. I stand corrected then on Richard and Allsmiller- it just seems like Allsmiller has been there since the 8th grade- with all the 3 pointers I have seen him hit!
  16. I don't understand why all the CPA people are being so coy here- "might be off by a year on 1 or 2"- Richard (he came in 8th grade- if he was there in 7th grade he wasn't playing basketball) he was there in 8th grade. Bond (he came in 8th grade) Lindsey (he came in 8th grade) Allsmiller (he came in 8th grade not 9th- I watched him play MS ball for CPA) All of them came the same year, from the same AAU team (and that team was coached by????). Blackwell coming in the 8th grade is a different year, different topic and belongs in the discussion with how Bradshaw, Wharton and Blackwell made it to CPA. And lets not forget- the only part that didn't work was Blackwell being eligible in the 8th grade year- remember the Station Camp forfeit and the 10 games that he played in during his 8th grade year at CPA before being declared ineligible). it is a pattern- so far it has worked without any adverse ramifications- but it is a pattern none the less.
  17. Jett, Jett, Jett- surely you know that is not true- Richard came in 8th grade, Bonds came in 8th grade (after 6th grade at BGA and 7th grade at Woodland). And you forgot to mention- Jalen Lindsey came in the same 8th grade (from Murfreesboro) and Jake Allsmiller came in the 8th grade (from Grassland)- and all 4 of them just happened to come the same year.
  18. Whether you like CPA basketball or not- it deserves to be near the top of the Coach T message boards- and with the locking of the last "hot" topic today- this is the only one available. After watching the CPA-Ensworth game last night- two thoughts- CPA is still hard to beat for at least this year and Ensworth is certainly missing Corn Elder.
  19. Hedahe: That is a really good summary of how a lot of people feel when it comes to CPA basketball!
  20. Sportnerd: I give you kudos because at least you responded to the question and while I don't agree with most of your assertions- I appreciate the fact that you responded! We will just have to agree to disagree- I have heard the argument a lot "it is the opponent's job to stop the other team, not the winning team's job to hold down the score" - however- some coaches choose to go the compassionate route and they don't run up the score, or keep their starters in with a 46 point lead and let the starters that they have left in the game continue shooting 3's- to me that is the difference. I prefer a coach that uses the compassionate route instead of the one who asserts- it is the opponents job to stop us.. Just a basic difference in philosophy That game was over at halftime and there was no reason to add to the beat-down- except that it made Jake's stats look really good for the night and it provides another article for the Tennessean to write about CPA basketball.
  21. My prediction- there won't be any explanation from the CPA fans on this one- because there is no legitimate reason for a starter firing up 3's in the second half (which starts with a 46 point lead). The real reason probably showed up in the Tennessean a couple days later- that Jake is in 11th place in the nation in career 3 pointers. Expect a lot of 3's the rest of the year- even in blowouts- as he moves up the list!
  22. Thank you Indian- for some strange reason that doesn't surprise me a bit. You have to protect (and add to) that 46 point halftime lead- ha! How many three's did he shoot in making the 12?
  23. So, assuming that there probably was somebody there who did see it- a couple of questions: 1. How many 3's did Jake take? 2. How many 3's did he hit in the 1st half?
  24. I don't think Coach Sonn would dodge playing anybody. I think he is willing to play any team. From what I have seen of him he is a top-notch coach.
