Giles beat Fairview on Wednesday, 8-3.
  2. I don't like that it was a spectator stealing the signs, but it is part of the game. I really, really don't like that some people think beaming a batter in a high school game is acceptable. This is not the pros. These kids have a lot ahead of them and baseball probably isn't it. You could seriously hurt a kid. A high school pitcher may mean to put in their back, but end up putting it in his teeth.
  3. I would be more than happy to post phone numbers of local umpire association's assigners if any one of you is game??? I can no longer umpire myself, due to my job, but I'm certain you're wanted and needed. It's easy guys, just go out there and yell ball or strike and safe or out, nothing else to it. The situation that started this thread is a very uncommon one, I would hope. It's hard to imagine umpires, that an assigner would give a post-season game to, blowing an easy no brainer call like this. I wasn't there and who knows if this is the complete and true scenario. Baseball stories are a lot like fishing stories. But I am 100% positive of one thing; these umpires are probably still losing sleep for blowing two easy, no brainers like these. It amazes me how the baseball field and it's atmosphere can mirror today's society so closely.
  4. brining a rule book on the field would be showing the umpire up and should be cause for ejection immediately. How would the coach feel if an umpire brought over a guide to coaching book and showed him where he messed up by brining in the infield at the wrong time or giving the steal signal at the wrong time. I imagine he'd be pretty upset. I'd like for someone to write a guide to being a parent of a high school athlete and show the crazies how to properly conduct themselves at a game and how to just GET OVER IT! It's a game, nothing more, nothing less. And like the catsbackr said, EVERY ASSOCIATION IS SHAKING THE UMPIRE TREE ALL THE TIME FOR MORE UMPIRES! If you think the umpires are bad in your area, join them and do something to change that. Maybe if they had some these great "bleacher umps" they wouldn't have to use these lousy "willing and able umpires" that don't know the rules and apparently don't care.
  5. I think we should all give a big thanks to the men in blue who go step onto the diamond, night after night, and give it their best. Without those who sacrafice their family time, vacation time/hours at work, and their bodies, there would not be this great game for the kids to play. Yes, they get paid, but it's not always worth it with all the attitudes they have to deal with during a game. Most umpires leave work early, work a double header, and get home with just enough time to choke down a ballpark burger and lay down just to get up and do it again the next day. So, here's to you, men in blue! They really don't get the gratitude they deserve. Just look it some of the posts on here or go listen to the fools in the stands at any game. Not sure why TSSAA has a shortage of umps, there is always handfuls of them in the stands at the ballparks, lots of coaches sitting there too. We also need to give a huge thanks to the coaches too. They put in even more time and sweat and tears and maybe even a little blood. I'm not sure why anyone would want to coach these days, too much expected of them. If you don't think so, ask your local HS coach if you can help out one week with the field prep and care. Thanks coaches! Ya'll the man!
