Got the confirmation that dorm rooms will be available. We just need a rough head count so we can get the right number of rooms reserved. Price will increase from $175 (commuter) to about $300 (dorm resident). Don't quote me on this but its looking like the $300 will include breakfast and lunch, and we will just order pizzas at night for dinner. If you come to camp as an individual you will be placed on a team and compete with that team the entire camp. Each team will go through a series of technique stations throughout the camp together and learn each series as a team. There will be weight lifting sessions designed to show safe and helpful Olympic lifting techniques specific to wrestling. Also, a coach’s weight training session will be held by Coach Mike Newman. Lunch will be included and provided by our dinning staff at McCallie’s Dinning Hall. If enough people show interest in this camp we will be able to use the dorms. We need an idea of numbers now though so we can reserve enough rooms since so many other summer camps will be going on at McCallie. This camp will be formatted very similar to the UTC team camps. Private schools in Tennessee cannot compete at Prep Nationals because they would be ruled ineligible by the TSSAA (couldn’t find the exact ruling on their website). In order to participate in the Prep Nationals a private school would have to break away from the TSSAA. That action would make them a non-sanctioned school, which would prevent them from wrestling TSSAA sanctioned schools. Contests with Out-Of-State Teams and Interstate Tournaments 2. Q. May a TSSAA school participate in interstate tournaments or meets that have not been sanctioned? A. No. All interstate tournaments and meets must be sanctioned by TSSAA, the other state associations concerned, and the National Federation. (p.55) < http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/handbook.pdf> Though I’m not 100% sure I believe that individual sports can’t break away from TSSAA, it must be an entire school (i.e.: wrestling cannot become independent and the rest of the school remains sanctioned). It is either all or nothing!

I’m putting together the JV schedule for McCallie this year, and have some dates I wanted to let everyone know about. Collins Hill wanted a travel date for their JV so those guys could get use to traveling and competing. But the only date they could travel on was Saturday, December 1. So, if two or three other teams would be interested in bringing their JV to McCallie to get in 4 or 5 matches for a dual tournament environment, please let me know. *Baylor has also committed to this date. Also, we will be having our annual JV Tornado Rumble on Friday, January 11, 2013. We will begin wrestling at about 5 or 6pm, and just pair kids up. No brackets, no hassles, just pairing kids up so they can get some matches in. Wrestling will conclude at 10pm, and we will fit as many matches into that time frame as possible. We will only be charging $2(two) per kid, and there will not be an entry fee for spectators. If you have any questions about either one of these events please feel free to contact me.
