  1. What?!?!? If Greeneville or Betsy had the student populations of DB & Science Hill they would be smashing 6A + the privates. Some years they might be able to do that even with a 4A enrollment.
  2. Not sure if this was intended as a dig against Betsy & Greeneville, but they are in 4A because that is where their enrollment landed them. https://cms-files.tssaa.org/documents/tssaa/2022-23/2023classification.html#di-football
  3. Most of us won't be chatting here much for a few months, so here's wishing all you guys a great Christmas weekend & a great 2024.
  4. The 2018 Crockett team (12-1) made it to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual 5A state champion Knox Central. There is just no way a Tri-cities 5A or 6A team is getting past Knox County.
  5. Those were a couple of really good Crockett teams, then the talent level dropped off a cliff and they went back to the same ole mediocrity
  6. With regards to Greeneville & Betsy, those 2 are going to stomp all NET teams 90-something % of the time, so you can't single out DB only. But your overall point is well taken. I still maintain that NET 5A & 6A will never in the foreseeable future get past the Knox County line in the post season. Over the last 10 years here are Elizabethton & Greeneville's losses to local teams (excluding each other): Elizabethton 2022 lost to Science Hill 2017 lost to Boone 2017 lost to Science Hill 2016 lost to Science Hill 2015 lost to Science Hill 2014 lost to Science Hill Greeneville 2020 lost to Boone 2020 lost to Science Hill

  8. The title of this thread "Greeneville 2024 will they compete?" could mean a lot of things, i.e., what defines being able to compete? Does that mean winning the state title? Or getting to the title game? Or winning x number of playoff games? The term "compete" probably means different things to each of us. Here's my thoughts, if by "compete" we mean Greeneville gets to the 3 round then I would say YES, that is highly likely to happen. Greeneville may have a few coaching internal things going on and the usual high school drama, but for at least the past decade they have laid the foundation as a major player in 4A and I do not see that going away any time soon.
  9. I really blew that one... But it sure does narrow down the list for 2024
  10. There are average 48 4A teams each year. Over the past 10 years the following have made the state title game. The probability is very high that the 2024 state title game will feature two of the teams listed below (minus of course Catholic & Central) Anderson County (1) Elizabethton (3) Greeneville (2) Haywood (2) Knox Catholic (1) * moved to Division II in 2019 Knox Central (1) * moved to 5A in 2017 Knox Fulton (1) Memphis East (1) Pearl Cohn (3) * moved to 4A in 2021, 2 title appearances were in 3A Springfield (2) Trezevant (1) Tullahoma (1) Upperman (1) * moved to 4A in 2021
  11. Hope you're right, it would be good to see some other teams in the mix instead of the same ones year after year.
  12. I disagree. Over the past 10 years here are the teams in the 5A title game: Beech (1) Farragut (1) * moved to 6A in 2017 Henry County (1) Hillsboro (1) Independence (1) Knox Catholic (1) * moved to division 2 in 2019 Knox Central (2) Knox West (3) Oak Ridge (1) Page (3) Powell (1) Summit (2) Compared to an average of 47 5A schools each year it's a small handful of teams that ever make it to the finals. As to Houston in 6A, you are right in that nobody can predict anomalies like that, and the same thing could happen in 5A, but the overwhelming probability is that the 2024 5A title game will be between two of the schools listed above (minus of course Farragut & Catholic)
  13. Sounds like we have a consensus that there are maybe 5 or 6 teams who even have a chance in 2024 of reaching the championship game. The other 40-something are playing to maybe beat their main rival, win their region, break .500, whatever. Here's hoping that all 47 5A teams have fun with it in 2024.
  14. I forgot about Beech, good catch. I did not include Southwind because this is first time they have ever gotten past the 2nd round so I was thinking they were more of an anomaly, but you never know, so we will include them for now
  15. In terms of the playoffs: It's almost certain the eastern side (Regions 1 - 4) will be represented by a school in the Knoxville area. None of the schools in Tri-cities or Chattanooga have a chance. No way to know for sure but the state champion will come from one of these: Henry County Knox West Oak Ridge Page Powell
  16. The only problem with him going to Kingsport is the culture clash. I really do not believe the city of Kingsport, the school board, & whoever else is involved gives a hoot about building a championship football program. Now obviously the coaches & players want to win, I'm talking about above & beyond that level. Kingsport is not prepared to accept an outsider, and by-the-way that goes for all the other big Tri-cities schools, not just DB.
  17. Daniel Boone & David Crockett, yep big fight broke out during the post-game meet-n-greet at mid-field. Both teams still point to each other as the instigator, maybe we'll never know for sure. However the TSSAA took this very seriously as they should. I remember that at the next year's game there was an unusually heavy police presence to make sure everybody got the message.
  18. You mean it only rains on one side of the line of scrimmage?
  19. Yeah, it sounds like Oakland is getting out-Oakland'ed in this one
  20. Doubt Upperman has the speed to win this one, but last week they certainly out-Greeneville'd Greeneville with physical line play. So as they say, one never knows, do one.......
  21. Word around that water cooler is that he is coming to Kingsport. Take that for what it's worth.......
  22. It would be nice to see if he could turn the program around. Boone loses to DB 95% of the time so it doesn't matter to the Blazers one way or the other. Assuming he didn't get squashed by the culture I would be willing to bet he beats Science Hill the 1st year.
  23. Even if it's true the Tri-cities big schools do NOT have the culture to support a championship football program. Could GQ go against the powers that be and change that? Maybe but it would be an uphill battle.
