  1. Sorry for the misunderstanding Mr. Abbot. My earlier post was directed more towards the HW themselves. Not how the HW matches were officiated. Although, since you posted. I would like to know, what do you personally or officials in general look for to call "stalling." (not just in Heavy matches either.) And also my other question is, What critia does an official use to call stalling as opposed to a stale mate. Sometimes it seems like an official tends to call a stale mate over a stalling call, for example, if the top man has "legs in" and the bottom man is doing close to nothing. Just a Question, wanted to see what you thought. Thanks
  2. Thanks Coach D. We very much appreciate the good words. - Good Luck next year. See you guys at the Invite.
  3. Seriously Guys. We (D1) just got off this last year. It's sooo bad. You'd think with all this TSSAA money we could grab up atleast 6 good refs. I understand completely, when you have your old high school out there wrestling v. your old rival school or your son, you want a fair match. I saw most of the calls you guys are talking about. Overrall, the refs at state are bad (ok, very bad). Why does it seem like, in almost every medal round match, there is some kind of questionable call? I understand when the brackets start getting more narrow, that means the competition gets a little stiffer, but that shouldn't mean the refs get a little worse. Just a Thought
  4. I agree. HWT is a very different weight class than all others. Other smaller weight classes, you're able to "slick" another wrestler or not use strength as much as skill or speed. But when a kid is 215-275lbs, speed is a rarity. I also think coaches teaching Heavies shots is... for the most part lost time. Or atleast sometimes it looks like it when a HW takes about 1 shot a match. I think maybe coaches SHOULD teach more throws. "Airshows" are always fun to watch. Slide-bys are great and never forget about the ol' "duck." Although these are very basic moves, momentum is the key. Something like a Sumo match. Just a Thought.
  5. Agreed, sometimes I agree with the officials though, because if I had a wrestler out there. I wouldn't want to get beaten by "Official Awarded" points. I think they try their best to make the kids wrestle. But it's really up to the guys as to what the pace of the match is. I think for the most part the refs do a decent job at best officiating the big boys. But it is a different style of match. But I agree with the previous post. Sometimes I feel like the best thing to do during the HW match is the catch up .ZZZzzzZZZZ. HaHa. Just a Thought.
  6. Let me get something off the Old Chest. I personally think of the "anti-Bradley" cheering as putting fuel on the fire. We've (yes, we) have put up with it for years. We're very used to it. But it seemed this year that there was a HUGE increase in the number of "anti-bears." Clarksville has always been at the Trad. State and Team State in numbers, to cheer against the Bears. Although it has been going on for years, the signs and gesture (from both sides) were a little rough. At the finals, this past weekend, Clarksville and Collierville fans alike were taking off shirts, flipping people off, and directly pointing out Bradley fans in the crowd. This is somewhat disturbing when I look into the Bradley crowd and they looked pretty composed to say the least. I think for the most part Bradley doesn't want any part in the situation. Personally, the loses at 103 and 152 were very, very hard because those two kids that lost were two very dedicated wrestlers with very promising futures. But Bradley fans still cheered for the winning wrestler. Another point was the fact that Bradley fans cheered for Danny Coleman after his win. Honestly, I stood an applauded Danny because he's a great wrestler. Although he is from our rival school, this is a state championship. Something he worked so hard for and I felt like he deserved his "yellow medal." Danny is a good kid, with a great heart a good work ethic. And was very deserving of the "yellow medal" and OW. Another point that was brought up about Bond. The fact that we, (Bradley fans) didn't applaud his lose. I think for the most part, Bradley fans feel like cheering against kids is somewhat pointless. We had NO horse in that race. Bond is a very talented wrestler. And whether he wins or not, doesn't concern us. Although there was a lot riding on the match (team points), Bradley fans for the most part don't lash out, take off shirts, and jump up and point at people from the rivaling fan section. Ok well this is my soap box for this thread. Just a couple of thoughts on the Tourny. Hope everyone enjoyed the action. Good luck next year to all the returners.
  7. Good Call VLF. Way to go Travis. Good Luck in your next two years.
  8. ...Something like Apples and Oranges. Still Random Question
  9. True... there were a few signs on the Franklin side that were a little rough. But it was kind of weird that most of the people holding them up were wearing purple and gold shirts. ? Don't understand ?
  10. Agreed. There was also a horrible call in the Franklin,Bradley Central match. Bradley's 119 clearly had two. The official didn't give him two. I also thought it was funny because the Franklin crowd looked frustrated after the Bradley guy spun around and "got two". Then after there was no call the Franklin crowd went wild. Just interesting that the obvious call wasn't there, and it was a veteran ref. SAD, but everyone makes mistakes. Oh well.
  11. Still 2 weeks left in this season.....
  12. Good point Texas. There were a few things this weekend that made the question the location of the tourny. One of the biggest ones was where can I sit? In the finals the two teams fans were seperated, which is a good thing when there is that much emotion. But the 1st two rounds, people were sat on top of each other. Maybe the state should be in Chatt OR somewhere bigger. ANYWHERE ! Putting State in the middle of the state makes sense. But it doesn't make sense to sit people on top of eachother. To add onto that argument, with the superbowl coming up, the two teams are playing on a neutral field. Personally, I think it is a HUGE advantage to play on home turf and a huge advantage to have your fans there. Personally I think State should be battle out in gym that no one has an advantage. Does that not make sense.... Just a Thought...
  13. For those of you that were there... I know people sometimes get fired up over this topic sometimes. But did anyone have a problem with state being at Clarksville ? I know Clarksville High and Team State Championship have almost been synonomous over the last few years. But did anyone see any problems this wkend. Let's hear the pro's and con's. Anything from atmosphere to officiating quality. Let's here it all.... What did YOU think about it ?
  14. The Big Dance ? Like a State Championship or a State Champ ?
