  1. Great game at Anderson county. Heritage comes from behind. Knight looked strong and Johnson hit a big three. Enjoyed this game!
  2. Poor coaching last night. Had been a while since I saw Alcoa play and surprised by changes. But came a away with the following questions: 1. Why play #24 or any other post against Hooper and the giants? Spread it and shoot it. 2. Why did Troutt come off bench, hit a 3 and then get taken out? Has she been hurt? She was scoring early and never got much time or shots anymore. 3. Why did Shields not get more shots? She had 3 or 4 threes but didnt get enough shots...see #4. 4. Why did they keep stalling ball when they were behind then turn it over without a shot. Got to shoot the ball! Oh yeah..see #1, #2, and #3. 5. Where was crisp passing and chemistry I saw from them earlier in year? With that said, they did play hard defensively. Newman was all over the floor and Alcoa caused a lot of turnovers. Just thought they would find a way to put it in the hands of their freshman and let them hit 3's. Oh yeah...see #5. Poor gameplan and Coaching cost them that one. Not effort. Wish them good luck in regions. I will probably be following Heritage and WB and will give you a breakdown from their region. Good luck to all BC girls.
  3. 50-49 Heritage. I just witnessed an awesome finish. Leah Thomas hit the game winner with just a few seconds left. Great game!
  4. Went to WB tonight. Very impressed with Roddy for WB. Also Click plays very hard. Love watching her. Thought WB was going to pull upset as Alcoa looked different and out of sync early since I had last saw them play. Alcoa seemed to kick it in once both Freshman stayed on floor. Shields lit up. When does Alcoa play again?
  5. Agreed. Her defense is good and part of the reason they are winning. Maryville keeps teams from scoring. You make a very good point regarding Tilley.
  6. I probably didnt say that right. It is my opinion that player for player, I feel Heritage has more overall talent than Maryville at the player level. I do think Bangash could be the most talented on the floor Friday. Maryville has a nice player in Tilley and Spears and Pepperman at times. However i just think Thomas, Knight, Johnson, Massey are further along than those three. With that said, Maryville has proven with wins over Heritage, Alcoa, Bearden etc..that they know how to win as a team. Sometimes individual talent doesnt beat team talent. I think there is a difference. Again only my opinion from watching these girls through the years. On paper player for player I would take Heritage everytime. But basketball is not played on paper and Maryville continues to impress.
  7. Attended Maryville Heritage game Friday night. Maryville took it in OT. I really thought Heritage would win with more talent. Maryville played good defense and still wins ugly. Hats off to Bangash and company. They just keep winning.
  8. How did cak lose to Kingston? Foul trouble?
  9. Alcoa adds Fulton to victory column. Beat CAK earlier. Farragutt drops one to Maryville. Nice night for Blount County girls.
  10. I wanted to add Bethany Massey Heritage to this list. She has been injured. But not sure which category to add her to.
  11. Impact Posts:i Knight and Pryor- Heritage: These two make up the dominating post of the County. Pryor is stong and gets it done in paint. Knight brings you power and finesse with a strong turn around jumper. Only a sophomore, if Knight continues to progress, we will hear big things from her. The defender and slashers: Kayla Newman Alcoa, Amber Click WB, Samantha Henry WB: Newman is a great defender and very hard to stop in open space. At times she can take over a game. Click is a hard nosed defender that always plays hard. She creates match up problems. At best when driving the lane. Henry is another slasher that can also defend and score the ball. Tilee at Maryville is my alternate in this category. The Shooters: Tara Shields Alcoa, Jordan Johnson Heritage, Halee Talbott WB: Shields is only a Freshman but is a pure shooter. The more shots Shields gets, the more she will make. Johnson and Talbott are streaky but when on, these three can light it up. My alternate in this category is Spears at Maryville. These girls can fill it up when on. Athletic Mismatches: Tiffany Moore Alcoa, Stubblefield Alcoa, Bangash Maryville. Moore is maybe the best overall athelete in County. Her speed, jumping ability and hands are awesome. Stubblefield is a tough matchup when she gets in paint and within five feet from basket. Good post moves. Bangash is also fun to watch. A hard nosed player that can beat you different ways. She really understands how to play the game. Complete players : Leah Thomas Heritage and Hannah Trout Alcoa- These girls know how to win and are still young. Thomas, just a sophomore, has a strong body. She can slash or shoot and brings consistency evertime she plays. Troutt, only a Freshman, has also pplayed way above her years. Very poised, she does all the little things that go unnoticed. Takes care of ball, Block shots, accurate passing, help defense. She can drive to basket and knock down 3 at times. Both very fundementally smart players. Best team chemistry: Alcoa followed by Maryville Best atmosphere: Heritage followed by Maryville Super sophomores: Thomas and Knight Top players: Bangash, Newman, Johnson Top Newcomers: Trout and Shields Alcoa, Roddy WB and Robinette Maryville. Top Coach: West Maryville...winning with a lot less talent. A lot of good ball and young tallent. Out if everyone named above, only moore, Pryor and Stubblefield are Seniors. Looking forward to rest of season and good luck blount county girls!
  12. WB struggled at the line. Same thing happened at Alcoa Saturday night. Neither WB nor Alcoa could bust Maryville's zone. Maryville plays hard but honestly, Alcoa and WB have much more tallent. So Maryville sits in zone and hopes you are off. But in the end, you have to execute. WB and Alcoa did not. Maryville took advantage of that. I do think after watching all the County teams play numerous games this year, and throwing all scores out the window, Alcoa followed closely to Heritage have played the best this year in the County. I would go with William Blount next because of their scrappiness and potential. Still not impressed with Maryville even though they have some County wins. Layla is a player and Tilley at times but Alcoa and Heritage both go 5 deep and WB. 3 maybe 4 deep.
  13. Midnightghost...I have enjoyed your perspective and reports regarding the Heritage team and players since the beginning of the year. There is nothing wrong with following a team whether you have a player on the team or not. Many come on here that are actually parents and report about the whole team without boasting too much about their daughter. They try and keep it balanced. And that is okay too. Honestly I think you are digging yourself in a hole talking about Catholic and now recruiting services. Just go back to giving us your Heritage coverage. People will soon forget you even went the other direction. Again I thought your Heritage "coverage" and "heritage-only stats" was spot on. Something you and I both know you will never be able to deliver "reporting" on Catholic...except when Heritage plays Catholic
  14. Alcoa 42-cak 32..Alcoa playing team ball.
  15. Looks like very tough pre-district schedule paid off for alcoa tonight. Alcoa 42 CAK 32.
  16. Ok WCdog, I will give you that. But dont be fooled by alcoa's record. Took Bradley Central to wire at Bradley...their closest game yet. Beat an undefeated Creek wood at the time. Beat mcminn central and white co. Losses against Cleveland ,bearden, livingston and a very good elizabethton team. Should have beat Bearden. They really dont have a bad loss. With that said, Alcoa would still have a hard time with CAK, Fulton, and Farragut do to size. But they play way above average most night. Not trying to pick an argument...just wanted to defend the travel ball statement but understand now what you were trying to say.
  17. You sure you have your travel ball facts correct? Not so sure. Also, what part of Blount County is Knoxville in? This thread is about the girls of blount county by those that have followed and know the facts about them. Blount full of girls with AAU and USBA National Championships. Tons of girls from both Flights, Threat, Hoopitup and other top AAU programs. In fact...a lot of your Knoxville girls play with them and/or have lost to these programs. I am not going to bad mouth Fulton or the Private schools. Or any other knox co school as I do not follow them or care what they do. My focus and comments will be directed toward the blount girls and their season.
  18. TwinCity...didnt give Alcoa enough credit. They have played a strong schedule and beat some very good teams. Game was never in doubt. Stone and Loudon put up a lot of points. Alcoa plays Loudon soon and we should see how good loudon really is. Hope to make that one and will give you a brakedown.
  19. Went to Heritage and Maryville game. Frankly, neither team very good right now. Hard to watch Maryville. They have one player. If Heritage didnt have chemistry problems, they should have easily won this game. Johnson playing well. Post have talent but kind of up and down. Still waiting on my mountaineers to turn this thing around. Leah Thomas is solid. WB playing well. Nice win over LC. Like their scrappy play. Henry,Talbott,Click leading the way. Another young team. Alcoa another win. Young and loaded with talent. Still need a post. Would have been a great fit if the Knight from Heritage would have ended up there. However Coach Johnson always has the girls ready and they respond well. No chemistry problems there! Hope to see their next home game and will report.
  20. That is exactly the order I see it also. Although I do think Alcoa will finish with a better record within district. Stone, loudon, and Kingston should be even and split with each other. I keep saying after hearing how Alcoa did after their Christmas tourney..." Alcoa will go as thier Freshman guards go." The junior Newman should do her thing but Alcoa has got to keep getting freshmans Trout and Shelds looks. Looking at Alcoa's schedule so far...wow...they have played some strong teams and at least are battle tested. I am familiar with the girls from alcoa and other blount county girls but not as much the names of the other girls in the district. However I do think from observing: Cak with their size and experience should dominate although not sure about their depth. I do know the Hammaker girl is a difference maker. Kingston has size, Stone is young, loudon lost those talented guards. And Scott is Scott.
  21. I haven't heard much about CAK this year. How have they looked and how has Hammaker played since coming back?
  22. Heritage won yesterday to go 1-1 in tourney. Will play again today. Impressed with Thomas and Johnson at guard. Also Wolfe and Knight with good post play yesterday and Pryor the day before. If the Coach would just leave them be...who knows. I still think there will be girls leave the program but I hope not. I will be there cheering you on! Alcoa looks to be peaking. Newman had two outstanding games and they are 2-0. She can put on a show. Cant say enough about the Freshman guards Shields and Trout. They can light it up outside. Impressed more and more about Trouts total game. Their coaches do it right. Should be a good championship game if Newman and the rest of guards come to play. Hope I get to stay for it!
