Martin I'm sure is a good man. Not knocking that or the man. He is a good coach but coaching at GP and coaching in 7aaa is two different things.

I have never posted on this site before, but after reading some of the comments about Matt Bradshaw, I felt that it was absolutely necessary. Matt Bradshaw is one heck of a coach, but as good as a coach as he is, he is twice the man. He probably would not even approve of someone coming on this website and defending him, because his reputation and character speaks for itself.

 

First off, as a coach, there is no doubt in my mind that Matt Bradshaw is the best around. I played one year for Matt Bradshaw at Watertown. It was my senior year and of course, I had my concerns about him coming to Watertown. As soon as he stepped into the locker room for the first time, all my concerns were completely gone. The man came in and treated us with respect and was always completely honest with us. He treated us all the same, whether you were the best player on the team, or the freshmen who did not have a clue how to play basketball. I can say each and every one of us grew as basketball players. He also had a passion for winning like we had not seen in Watertown in some time. I guess the parents at FC could not handle that passion, but we are more than happy to have it at Watertown now. I can say one thing about Coach Bradshaw, he would not have sat over there and took a forty point beating with a "deer in the headlights look" like FC's three coaches did the other night. And as far as last year, I respect the ring. You have it, and we dont, but once Booker T. Washington went out, Wade Houston could have led you all to a state championship. Your talent level was twice that of anyone else's in 1A basketball. So you all keep enjoying losing with the guy you have now, and we will be more than happy to keep winning with Bradshaw.

 

As far as the man Bradshaw is, I can't speak on what happened at FC, but I can speak on knowing Bradshaw for the last three years. Second to my father, I respect that man more than any other person in the world, and I can say most of my peers have that same kind of respect for him. I know a TON of Friendship kids, and out of everyone that I have ever spoke to about him, they all have the same kind of respect except for one. It is the FC parents (the money) and administration who ran him off. If you saw Bradshaw daily and saw the way he lived, you had no choice but to respect him. I can say that he turned at least two of my friends life around and got them on the right track. I have grew up in church, but I learned more in Coach Bradshaw's 9 week bible class than I had learned my entire life. He personally put together every single locker that is in Watertown's basketball locker room right now. If I called Coach right now, he would be there for not only me, but for any single player that he coached throughout his career. It says a lot, when a year after graduating, three former Friendship basketball players are sitting on the Watertown side wearing purple, because of their love and respect for Bradshaw.There is no doubt, if you played for Matt Bradshaw he made a postive impact on your life and he gave you a true example of what it was like to be a good, Christian man.

Post of the year. Knowing Coach Bradshaw personally, he is a great coach and I hate that FCS politics cost him his position. He probably didn't understand it at the time, as most of us on the outside did not, but everything happens for a reason, and he is in a much better place for himself. There was nothing I enjoyed more than opening up the paper and seeing he walloped FCS by 40 and stuck it to the Commanders.

What they did to him personally was a disgrace to the coaching profession, but not unheard of.......See the David Martin situation.

I'll say this about Coach Harp..........if he can't get them competitive, I'm not sure it's possible. I'd like to see LHS rise above and take on MJ. MJ was pretty bad until they got Coach Perry. I hope LHS has the same success.

Fbboys, you and 2minutedrill were sure Peden had already been hired 2 weeks ago. What happened? Why are they conducting interviews if he has been hired? They are not legally required to go through the same process as a public school I would not think (posting for several weeks, etc...). Also, where is Coach Martin headed? I thought sure he would get Ravenwood. Have you heard the schedule as far as CPA playing Goodpasture?

I never said he was hired. I did say he is in with the right folks, and thought he would be a leading candidate.

Agree. Whites Creek would seem to be the best job. Probably a lot of talent roaming the halls that has not been pillaged by private schools.

The toughest part of "coaching" in Metro, is getting the actual athletes out to play.......and making sure they can actually get "home" after practice since a majority of them rely on public transportation I'm sure.

Would the current HC at Boyd Buchanan be a candidate? Seeing that the GP current Headmaster came from there I believe.

Glencliff and Whites Creek haven't been exactly powerhouses of talent.

I don't think so, but to answer your question he was at Westmoreland.

Facts:

 

1 Hurd is the best individual talent this state has seen in some time, if not all time

2 Jelks, Sims, Randolph, Ray was the best talent in one class this state has ever seen (Henry County, 2011)

Then you never saw John Henderson play at Pearl Cohn. I've seen both. Hurd is impressive, but JoJo IMO was the most dominant player I've ever seen in Tennessee. I still have the Athlon where he was ranked the #1 overall recruit in the country. That being said, Hurd is the best since then.

Coach Martin would be a good fit at Cookeville. I heard that there was an issue at Smith County. Is this what prevented Maynord from landing the Lebanon job?

Yes. There are some issues in Smith County.

I believe Coach Maynord has some issues going on that would probably remove him from any candidancy at this point.

I think it would be in Cookeville's best interest to look at David Martin. However, I don't see him moving to Cookevegas.

can't speak for Baylor or McCallie, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think MBA is doing the exact same thing as Ensworth, though they are not doing it as well as Ensworth at the moment

I believe MBA has somewhat "cleansed itself" in some ways since the "incident". Not saying they are totally ethical, but they did tell Jalen Hurd to get lost due to behavior......and Austin Blackwell was failing 5 classes and transferred over to CPA and is a member of Drew's crew.

Ensworth has also parted ways with several "superstars".........Jalen Ramsey and Antonio Richardson both had to leave for one reason or another. And there are several kids that had to leave as well for various reasons.

An announcement could come as soon as next week. Arrington is not on the short list. The post about Ezell assistant Anthony coming is just wrong information. If he is even interviewed, it will not be for the head coaching position. Reports are that Pedan could be wavering after hearing about a current junior class full of cancer. GP will be much better off when those guys are gone.

I don't think Peden is wavering. If he is offered the position, he would jump at it.

Coach Martin did not want to allow the players that were suspended back on the team. This was a direct command from the top administrator. Coach Martin wanted to allow them back on after the season was over and after they worked their way back into the program. When they cam back it caused many problems on the team and the team chemistry was destroyed. It was a wonder they did as well as they did. For those who question, yes he was forced out. Why would a coach resign in the middle of the school year, unless he had another opportunity already lined up, which he does not at this time. He was ask on Wednesday to clean out his office and tell the players he would not be the coach at Goodpasture. Some way to treat a man who has done so much for the school.

We know you have won us 3 state titles and been runner-up 5 times. Because of some parents that have complained of your discipline that will help them in life realize that there are consequences to certain actions, you are being relieved of your duties.

I heard from a very reliable source that former player Phillip Anthony has been contacted about the job. He has been assistant at Pope John Paul, Jo Byrns, and Ezell Harding. He played for Martin and understands the tradition of the program.

He might be an assistant. I think Peden is the leader in the clubhouse right now for HC. Unless they can get the guy in the khaki shorts............

With all of the facilities & support from the Cookeville Community, I would have to disagree that a state championship will never be won there. If the right class came along at the right time with the right coach...it could happen.

Support and Facilities are there. But they aren't going through Rutherford Co., Maryville, and Memphis.

You guys can talk about coaches all you want. It's Peden. Decided weeks ago. But lets be real honest. When a big wig that basically owns the school and the admin that runs it don't like you then it really doesn't matter. Fact is the admin will not be around long. The people that backed him will get rid of him before too long in the name of "bringing the school together." Basically he did some dirty work for those that had an issue with the coaching staff. Now he can be the scapegoat. That fact that he doesn't see that says it all.

Sad for Goodpasture. Once a proud school with great tradition. Can't believe you would force Martin out, to hire Peden. But, it is what it is. Peden is connected with that Big Wig you speak of I'm sure, so that is where the connection is.

This is not the Cookeville job of old.

Looks like a great job. Easy district. You are never going to win the state there, but you can win district every year and go to the playoffs.
