Yeah Barney We went and the place was packed. It was like watching college teams, the lines were  big and fast. Receivers would actually hold on to the ball when it hit them in the hands. I think Baylor made too many mistakes in the 2nd qt. and it got away from them. I don't think there are any publics that could compete with these last two. I've never seen a game like the last one. The other two looked about average but not the last one.

To find a crowd like that last night to see two teams play you would have to go back to the day's when Knoxville High and Central High played every Thanksgiving Day at Neyland Stadium.

  2. Being from Maryville and remembering Caleb Slover when he played QB for Anderson County in 95 and 96 he was a very good player. If his kid was half as good as he was I can't imagine with Caleb's background as a good QB the apple didn't fall far from the tree. When someone was talking about his passing percentage on here the very first thing I thought was what is the problem with these idiots in Sweetwater. For them to find a coach after all this mess is going to be almost impossible. I'm sure they'll be some Yes man or an A kisser show up to take this job but it won't be a coach.

Thanks Barney, I always found it curious he left and I know Maryville folk talk about him like Bama folk talk about Bear Bryant

That's because we didn't know what we lost until we lost it. Coach Story was a great coach no doubt and very well likes but he wasn't a Ted Wilson that would go out and get kids to come to Maryville. He was really more layed back and very quiet off the field.

  4. The funniest story he told me that morning was about how he got Mike Casteel who was at Eagleton to come to Maryville over Alcoa. I swear he said they were at spring practice and a UT assistant who was recruiting Danny Spradlin was there at the practice and he ask him to drop by Casteel's house on his way back to Knoxville. The assistant knocked on their door and handed Mrs. Casteel a business card and told her that Mike was on their sophomore group to watch and he was sorry he had missed him that day at practice. Coach Wilson laughed and said Mike was at practice te very next day dressed out. Coach Wilson is honestly why the county schools hate Maryville to this day because he could go out to a Eagleton Football game and stand around and get in good with the daddies of those players and the next thing you knew they were all coming to Maryville.

  5. I can tell you a lot and the first thing had to do with the 1980 team which was actually pretty loaded that fell on their face because the leadership completely turned into a joke. The QB got a lot of pre season hype which I'll say didn't turn out to nothing but a major disappointment. There were some good guys on that team but were out numbered by the bad ones. It pizzed Coach Wilson off so bad he decided to step down but inside he really didn't want to but word had hit the street and Maryville coach Don Story was pretty much the next man up and he didn't want to pull the rug out from under him or he would lost him to another school if he stayed and Maryville teams of that era were built tough defensively by Coach Story. Coach Wilson set out that year in 81 and Kingsport came calling and he took the job. Coach Wilson told me personally he couldn't believe the staff of assistants D-B gave him to work with, it was a coaches dreams versus three at Maryville but through out the 70's only two. I sat with him at an Alcoa game a few years ago and even though he had been away from D-B for many years he kept asking what the score was on their game constantly.  I can personally tell anyone he was pretty bitter about everything that happened that last year and he really second guessed himself for not staying. I listened to him for about two hours that morning but I can say without a doubt he did really enjoy all the new people he met at D-B and he really loved that job up there. I really wanted him to win a state up there so bad but did get close a time or two. During his time at Maryville a good foundation was built for what we have today along with the the great youth league and the great coaches that have gave a lot of valuable time to keep all of this going right until this day.

Yeah, I know. I was slightly joking at first with a friend that is a MTSU booster and apparently some of the boosters like him a lot from his NFL days. Could be interesting from what is swirling.

I don't have anything against Jeff Fisher but my goodness he's going to be 66 in February and he resigned from a job last year in the USFL after going 2-8.  If I were Jeff I would want one of those booth jobs like most other retired coaches and players. He honestly horsed around to long after his last pro job and stayed out of the lime light and a lot of people have forgotten about him. Apparently MTSU must be in the hands of a bunch of Dodo Birds.

Now are you happy with yourself Barney??  Lol.....all this talk about nothing.  I will say it has been entertaining to read all the different takes.  I ain't fussin or anything at you.  I truly think the whole thing is hilarious though.  I reckon it gives us something to pass the time until this Thurs and the games begin.  Well done.:thumb:

I'm happy. Actually it's a compliment to Coach Creasy and the great job he has done at Oakland. Far as MTSU I figured he would absolutely be a great recruiter in the Mid State area where most of the great talent is. Just watching that game last week and realizing what was going on in the Bradley coaches mind getting shut down like that everywhere you turned. Coach Creasy is human just like the rest of us or he wouldn't have came to Oakland without a raise in pay. I really can see him going to a private school now because of two great openings in the near area. I'm sure MTSU can find someone with college experience to come into their big tall aluminum stadium I'm so glad we don't go to anymore for state championship games.

Right!  Don’t think MTSU is looking to experiment with a high school coach.  Now I could see BA making a very interesting offer.

BA would be crazy not to go after Creasy. MTSU most likely fired a better coach than they will find. The facalities at MTSU are horrible as it comes and I am so glad they don't have the championships there any more. It would be a coaches nightmare to draw in good players to a place like that.

You think maybe he's sort of aware of Quarles' situation? Not my business to decide what Creasy is happy with...if he's got lofty dreams of big money and celebrity status, you have to take risks to get there. If he's happy with a great living and a current strangle hold on HS football in Tn., he'd be crazy to walk away from the situation that he has on lockdown.

Quarles had 4 years at Furman before going ti ETSU. He took a job with ETSU who has champagne taste but a beer budget. ETSU just hired Gardner-Webb's coach because they have a beer budget but they could only afford Bud Lite when they were giving it away this summer.
