  1. I don't know John Allen personally. However, I'm pretty familiar with the Powell program. This year has been an absolute train wreck for Powell, both on and off the field. If you know the timeline over the past 3-4 years, you'd know this is a KCS issue a lot more than a Powell problem.

From what I've seen/heard, Allen is great in the classroom, which KCS loves. Others have certainly vouched for him, outside of Knoxville. Everything I've seen points to this guy being a total control freak. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if the kids were buying what he was selling or if he even had a decent track record (I'm not talking about nice guys going 1-9). But where is all of that? The stuff that has gone on behind the scenes at Powell this season has everything to do with Allen wanting to have control of everything. Again, I don't have a huge problem with that, if you can have some success.

Coming in to 2014, Powell wasn't going to win their district, but they were good enough to win 5-6 games. I'm not going to criticize his offensive style (it's obvious he can't decide what identity he wants this team to have). Heck, I even recognize that struggles usually come with coaching/philosophy changes. However, the roster turnover before the season was alarming, and everything I've been told points to him as the culprit. A lot of the kids just didn't want to play for him, after everything that happened in the spring/summer.

I had zero opinion of Allen when Powell hired him. I won't get into the off-field details on a message board, but at this point, I'd just like to see him move on. I think it would be best for everyone involved. If he's the guy some people say he is, he'll land on his feet somewhere.

Your right and you never wish bad on anyone. I don't want to see Powell turn into a Karns because there is a lot of good football history there. The fans there need to get together and run a blowtorch up someone's hind end before it does.

  2. They beat us 35-0.

So they must of beat us by the same score. I don't put to much stock in junior high school players repeating the same thing in high school because some kids mature early and some later. To many times I've watched Alcoa stomp us into the ground just to get the same in return four years later. When you have kids that are held back [redshirted] or just a year older it's a big difference in junior high but the playing field starts to even out in high school.

  3. Sorry that wasn't directed at the fans by no means but the group that had a part in it. I do hate it badly for your fans to be dealing with this mess. We always enjoyed playing Powell and personally hate what is going on. I should of made my self more clear that the actions they took against Rang just put everything in a hole and the blame for all the mess afterwards lays squarely on their shoulders. I didn't care at all for the pick they brought in in the first place and if you go dig up some of my older post you will see that. GQ makes a good check because he is the AD and football coach. There are only two or three coaches in the state that could demand that type of money and GQ is one of them.

  4. It's not stupid.... 99% of teams would have taken a knee in that situation... It's a sign of respect, it's just something you do. The only teams I have ever seen pull that stunt are farragut and maryville. Our QB is gone for the year and from the sounds of it might not get to play basketball.. Needless to say that left a bad taste in my mouth.

24# put a bad taste in my mouth and you expect sympathy from a group of kids that were the victims of this cheap hit artist. There was no football to this kid other than to play outside the rules which was obvious to a blind man. Your coach needs to take some accountability for letting this garbage go on. I do hate it for the young man that got hurt for William Blount tonight and hope for a fast and safe recovery.

  5. Yeah...

I'm sure a team that wins state every year is worried about a dang jamboree. Why would Maryville be mad that a team did what it took to win? I keep thinking it over but I can't come up with a good answer. It just doesn't make any sense. Yet maryville posters keep bringing it up.

I think a lot of people went home that night thinking Maryville dynasty might finally have ran out of gas. As for most of the times except last year Maryville gets going real slow and don't really catch on fire until the sixth or seventh game. On one hand I would like to see a good game but on the other I know a lot of the younger players on the team and they get a chance to play if the first string goes out and jumps the other team fast which happened against Lenior City.

  6. Oh and Barney to answer your question... Yes I could find a bright side if my house was hit by an F5 tornado. I have had a lot of hard times in my life so I have had to learn how to be positive and laugh about things. It's what has kept me sane all these years.

That's great to know that Gov. I can tell you as much as we kid around with you we all enjoy your spirit and enjoy your post.

  7. Thats falls on your recruiting coordinator....not the coaches or fans.

We don't have one of them , we have a sports public relations person that gets out and tells the butcher, then the butcher tells the baker , then then baker tells the candle stick maker and each time it's told it grows legs and takes off running. Then the next think you hear is Butch Jones has his eye's on someone for the class of 2018.

Speaking of recruiting coordinator, your R.C. must be busy recruiting all those new players into that big apartment complex behind Lowe's. When they get that filled up Alcoa might be a Super 32 team .

  8. I guess the question is whether Ensley gives MHS the best chance to win it all? I might bet you on the comment about QB the next two years. It would not surprise me or many here at MHS if a Sophomore starts next year. His older brother is a running back right now. He is pretty good as well. Competition is always a good thing to make everyone better.

    Go REBELS!!!

Personally it don't take a rocket scientist to see the difference in the passing game the past few weeks and I'm dog gone sure the Air Force has their plans for number 1 to be a WR because of his height and blazing speed. It would be hard to imagine not taking advantage of his best uses to help this team get to the state. Now why I think 17 is the QB for the future has to do with his ability for being a total natural gifted athlete. I watched the freshmen play Alcoa and and lose because of a costly fumble and a under thrown pass behind an open receiver in the end zone. When I left that game my first thought was why are they wasting break away speed like that and not using them at running back. Maryville fan's are sometimes bad about electing someone into the NFL Hall of Fame before they have even played a game in high school yet. I could give you a list of three Herschel Walker's, three Payton Manning's and three Reggie White's that were the future of Maryville High School Football that never lived up to the billing but some of the fans that watched a few games here and there said they were a can't miss.

  9. Looks like a rill big crowd thair att tha Okelund & Baylurr game oldfan41....... ^_^

Man alive. I thought our crowd was down Friday Night until I saw this tape and no one is there. I wonder if their town was evacuated for a tornado or winning just got boring there also. I went to a midget league game last week in Maryville that had a bigger crowd than that.

  10.  why does Alcoa have a bigger TV than Maryville..............especially since Maryville charges $2200 for tuition? Sad....hehehe!

I just love to have fun with you guys over that thing. I pasted by there a week ago with a friend that's never seen your campus and they thought I had brought them to a small college and couldn't believe that was Alcoa High. I would have to say that is an impressive looking football field and stadium and I do hope they get a nice locker room to go along with it.

  11. So, where do you think Alcoa should be playing? Just curious.

I think one class up because of all the kids that pay diddly squat (500.00) for tuition  They still would win under Rankin's leadership. There have been two maybe three times in the past twenty five years I would have considered them the best team in the state period.

  12. Do you think there will be a 7A in Tennessee in this decade?

As greedy as the T$$AA is I wouldn't doubt it. There needs to be only three or four classes and that would clear this mess up and not base it totally on enrollment. You add and subtract things to get the real figure. Take Alcoa for example and the number of tuition students paying $500.00 to go to school there. For everyone of those kids that are playing football figure in twenty to be added to the enrollment per tuition player and you would be playing against the type schools you should be in with. The same with Maryville also but their in the top so it wouldn't matter. If things were based on real situations they could get this thing on a more equal playing ground for all schools.

  13. Maybe WB will drop down. (sarcasm)

There might be a chance WB might not have enough when they look at the new enrollments at that time. At Present they are just in by a nose and things could of changed but we don't know yet. The other problem is that the whole reason for setting it up this way was based on enrollment so it defeats the purpose if one of those schools wants to move down. What if Blackman wanted to move down, What would give WB the right to do that. There wouldn't be any and that's what I've been trying to say. This is just a bad mess in order for the T$$AA to make some money on playoff games. Go back to three or four classes where you didn't have this problem.
