The big problem Ridge has is when you take over a head coaching position with the county you inherit the former coaches staff. Not meaning to put anyone down but from the past it's been like adopting his children you don't want and in the end there goes the marriage. I've known coaches on the personal level from the past that have told me what they didn't like about their job and how this had a big hand in limiting their ability with either one of those programs. I don't see Justin Ridge leaving by any means and I wouldn't get on here putting that idea in people's heads. WB is a young team and they will come around but I do believe their future is next year not 2014. I made that judgement from the Catholic game this spring. I saw a young group play that day that looked very good and I expect them to come around in 2015.

If Maryville and Fulton were to play a game my thoughts are the Rebels winning because of GQ. I personally think West and Fulton would be a good ball game also. To many Maryville teams have won games against some of the speediest teams loaded with SEC players in the championship games for me to believe otherwise. There is no doubt Fulton has a great team but they also came so close against Catholic last year that a smart team can expose all their weaknesses and yes they have them just like Maryville does.

How do you figure that Heritage will be more fired up than WB?WB is 0-3 and they have to agonize over that for two long weeks. Not only that but this bye week gives us time to re-group and hopefully fix some of the issues we are having. WB will go into that game with losses to 3 quality teams and Heritage will prolly be cocky because they beat up on two cupcakes and everyone will be picking them to win the game. But WB has home field advantage, the 17 year streak, and they will be desperate for a win. I wouldn't be at all surprised if WB wins big. Like they did in '10 and '11 when the heritage folks were so confident they could beat us.
I'm sure it will be a good game just like last year. I'm not sure home field advantage means anything in that game unless there are some gopher holes in your field that only your players know about that Heritage might step in but other than that most fields I've been to were all a hundred yards long.

Super 32
Hey any team that gets beat 84-0 and 50-14 deserves a playoff game at the end of the season thanks to good ole Barney Childress. Please get rid of this clown.

Not sure what has happened to Bearden this year to get this bad. I sure feel for their fans because they are capable of so much better. Two years ago they put Maryville to the test and now they just look awful. Anyways Heritage did look good against Bearden and for them to keep moving the program forward a win against William Blount would sure come in handy right now. I personally think they will be more fired up then WB for that reason alone and I believe Heritage is going to turn in a 4-6 worksheet at the end of the season and have something good to build off of for next year. Just remember they have went from 0-10 and 1-9 and 4-6 would show the program is working itself back.

Hardin Valley must of been desperate to have the first team defense in with two minutes to go on the one yard line. I've seen many teams lose a good player to a season ending injury playing when they should of been on the sideline celebrating and thinking of the next week when the game was already won.

Now how does it feel to give the whipping instead of receiving it. Good going Heritage, things are starting to pay off.
-
I think the on side kick helped change that game around for Maryville and put West in a hole they couldn't seem to get out of. I expected this to be a good game just from how West played Henry County last year.

The Rebels wins because Turtle said so!!!! Rebels 24-21 .... That's West Rebels!!
If you intercept us twice we win 24-21 if you get three of them you win 24-21.

Went to watch the Freshmen game last night and turned out to be a good game but Alcoa did win it in two overtimes 49-47. I wanted to see the future stars for both teams or at least see if the hype was as big as it's been billed up to. I've never heard so many people in my life tell the fish stories that have been told in the last few weeks about certain kids that I had to go see for my self. What I saw last year in the Junior High game was pretty much the same thing again. Kids mature faster than others during the younger years and the next thing you know they are being billed as the next greatest thing since sliced bread. I did see some good things in a few of the kids but there will be plenty of work ahead before they play in the big games. Alcoa was the only game last year the junior high played worth a flip and the rest were games against weaker teams with half the players and it's very easy for kids to build up big stats that are very misleading and a coach that plays them to the very end of the game for some reason.. I've followed this program long enough to pick an all star junior high team no one has ever heard of but in their time you couldn't tell anyone any different.
-
Rankin is the perfect coach for Alcoa. The man rules the roost there and has total control over that program. There were teams from Alcoa's past that could of been good but some of the coaches did not have control. This man will not let a a rotten apple get into the basket there no matter how good they think they are and you have to respect that and that's why he has a winning record and so many kids playing football there. Greatest move in the history of Alcoa Football was the day he was hired for the job.

He hasn't Barn. Read the first post on this thread.
Thanks, my bad. I just saw the headline.

Why did Packer leave the air?

It's week two Barney; try to relax.
I would but the same mistakes happen over and over and I don't want winning against Alcoa to go to their heads just to make it worse. That game is over and the next is even bigger so beware.

Sorry but not just singling one person out but some of the reasons and upset could happen Thursday night. I love the speed our QB has and he is a great one to watch and he is miles ahead of any of the others and well deserving of that position. In watching high school football over the past few years I've watched Maryville get better each year as a team while others have gotten worse. Some of the Fulton scores are evidence of that. Maryville has risen to the top in East Tennessee lately without much competition at all except from Rutherford County where they believe a school must have the enrollment of a small college which will eventually turn the tide as these monster schools gets bigger. I personally think after watching Blackman and Oakland on ESPN that we have to get better at some of our problems as the season continues or game fourteen will be our last.. What we have is great but we're dealing with teams loaded with SEC bound talent and difference makers at the skill positions
-
If we go in throwing interceptions against West like we did the last two games then an upset could be in the making. This isn't a fluke and it's been going on since the seven on seven games this summer. West is a much better team than Alcoa and we play them with six days to prepare where they had two weeks. I'm sorry but Alcoa wasn't what they have been in the past and was very easy to predict in almost every situation Friday night. Also we are playing in Knoxville and there have been many a game in the past where we have had a fit with the officials so be ready. This will be the game Maryville could get into trouble and I expect it to be a good game. There isn't a single thing I've said that GQ hasn't thought about this weekend and he knows he has his work cut out. Also the one other thing that can help West is all the TV timeouts that can give a good team playing Maryville it's second wind. This game bothers me and has since West made the championship last year.

Think Heritage could win four games this year Bearden, Seymour, Lenior City and William Blount. Would be great to see this happen to help get this team going in the right direction again.

I recorded and watched the maryville/alcoa game and I honestly think this game has the potential to be a classic. Maryville looks sloppy on offense when you compare them to maryville offenses of the past and West has a good defense. I could see West forcing a few turnovers. And we all know that Maryville has a good defense but you have to think that #5 and the QB will bust a big play or two. I'm betting that it will be a close game.. Maryville wins by 1 or 2 TDs.
Your right about the sloppy offense. We can only be thankful for the super defense that has picked it up a notch from last year to help save the day. The offense is totally wreckless at times especially when it comes to passing. Last year we threw one interception and I'm betting the house between all the QB's we throw twenty if not more this season and we have a good start on that bet with four in two games. Thank goodness all of them can run like deer to make up for the shortfall there which will be very interesting to watch as the season progresses. Never seen anything like it in fifty years of watching Rebel Football. Not good for someone with heart problems but I love how GQ can figure out how to get around the weaknesses and prevail. I think that's why I enjoy watching them so much.

I have a question I really want an answer to. Rankin says its a 6A school playing a 3A and it showed because we ask a lot of our kids to playing both ways and Maryville doesn't. How can you make that statement when you dress almost 100 kids? Seems to me he made that choice to force your kids to play both ways. You have talent on that bench and yet he chooses not to use it. Alcoa is a 5a football talent they dress more than most 5/6a schools..I never had understood Rankin's coaching when it comes to this
When your the losing team you need answers fast when the camera's are on and what a better excuse than 3A and 6A. Why not be honest and say there was a lot of break downs and we just couldn't get out of neutral tonight. I personally expected the game to be 28-14 but I didn't expect the mental breakdowns on Alcoa's part to be as much but that had more to do with this game than 3A and 6A. If this is to big of a pond to swim in then maybe they need to go to the shallow end of the pool where it's safe to play the small schools that field thirty players and set the most unbelievable records known to man and show up in Cookeville every year to pick up your trophy for doing so.

I think that Fulton could beat Maryville and they would blow Alcoa out by 30 points. They are the real deal.
Then Fulton needs to play Maryville and find out. There will always be this one game everyone can tell you who can win but it's never played. The one thing I can tell you about Maryville is that no way will they do something tacky as score 83 and 84 points on another team and say we played everyone including the drum major. That is called rubbing someone's nose in it and trying to send a message your a bully which they are and as long as they keep doing that they will pick up more and more haters. Eventually they won't find anyone to play them because no team wants to have their program done like that. It's no secrete that you go out the front door you go to AE but if you go out the back door you go to Fulton. I don't have anything against Fulton other than your sending the wrong message for sportsmanship.

Great football atmosphere last night. Good crowd and some electricity in the air-for about 8 minutes into the game. Murvil defense looked really good. The offense is still trying to get over the hump. Some good players on that offense-28, 81, 43, 1, 6, etc. The xtra guys in stripes helped murvil early-but it wouldn't have mattered. Hard to tell much about alcoa. Backup QB looked good. #30 on defense can play with anybody. I hope #2 for murvil heals quickly.
Good luck to both teams the rest of the year.
Those calls were right on the money last night. I watched most of that game with field glasses and saw everyone of them and a few that weren't called. Number #2 got hurt on a play that there should of been an ejection of a player but nothing happened.

I'm not sold on Heritage quite yet. I saw the SD game tonight and they looked pretty bad. Then again, Heritage was bad last year too and it was a close game, so I'm not disagreeing with you.
I know seven on seven is only a part of football but South Doyle took Maryville to the wood shed a few weeks ago at Maryville College so they have a good football team and speed. I didn't expect that game to be close as some people thought. Heritage is a young team as William Blount but I do expect them to win a game or two this year. The game between these two teams will be a good game to watch as was last years.
-
WB will still win at least three games. Bearden, LC and Heritage are all W's.
Bearden would be the only one that will be a shoe in but the other two will be good games.

I thought we would win 28-14. Biggest problem I was worried about was our QB throwing into traffic and getting intercepted which did happen but we got one of them right back on the same play which was unbelievable. The kid has speed which everyone saw when it looked like he was going down for a major loss and outrun everyone for a first down. Just has to work on the throwing for Maryville to have any chance again for the state. Also want to say Coach Rankin did the right thing when it was over and Maryville had their younger players in and he followed along and did the same thing. So many teams I see game after game have their starters in to the very last play against Maryville's third or fourth string trying to get some points on the board at the cost of not letting their younger players get some experience for the next year. It's great to play against a coach with class.

Hopefully we can work on the passing game the next two weeks. We dropped a few goods ones but I'm sure the ball being wet didn't help but this part of the game needs some overall attention badly. I just about died when we ran the end around throwback play. It looked like Opie Taylor raring back throwing a rock into Myers Lake. Also need to work on kickoff coverage after that kid ran right down the middle on us. West was a good team and the game they gave us I expected it 100% and no less because they are good. They came so close to winning 5A last year and the game they gave us Thursday Night was for the good and showed what we need to work on. We did a great job running the ball the second half but I'm going to be honest and not sugarcoat it because I'm not a baker. Our passing game right now looks like a wounded animal and we're stocked to the gills with running QB's not passers and our offense is based heavily on the passing game. I went to William Blount this spring and watched Catholic run our offense and it hurt so bad to think that their coach was on the Siegel Staff when they came in and got introduced to our system and they look more like Maryville than we do. I might have to go to a Catholic game this week to reminisce about our missing passing game to bring back old memories.
