  1. Agreed. It would also look a lot different without Ely, Collier, Key, Stephenson, Jones, Dilldine, mann, the Butler kid on defense, Baker, Nash, the Butler kid at tailback and any number of others. Guess that's why they call it a team. I'm just saying I don't think York has carried the team like you originally posted. He's good but one reason he's good is because the rest of the team is good.
  2. York is an awesome player but he is not the only player at Upperman with talent this year. He owes a lot of his success to the line and receivers. I don't think it is a fair statement to say he "carried his team".
  3. Agreed. His numbers are great and everyone who watches him play says he is a special player.
  4. Upperman will gladly take anybody's $6 that wants to attend the games. Maybe if there are enough of them, the facilities can be upgraded and the bulbs changed in the scoreboard. Since Cookeville gets all of the funding from Putnam County Schools, Upperman and Monterey have to make do with whatever their parents can beg in the community. Those teams are doing good to have food for the team and equipment that isn't expired while Cookeville has the best of everything, so please bring all your friends and come to an Uppermam or Monterey game!
  5. Did DC being on fall break impact the crowd and the team's performance? Cookeville always gets a bye week during fall break, but it seems to hurt Monterey and Upperman's focus for the games during the break.
  6. Biggest shock to me was the low turn out for the game. Upperman had a good home crowd, but DC usually travels well and they didn't even fill up the small visitor stands at Upperman. I thought it would be the biggest game of the year at UHS but wasn't even close to the turnout for the Jackson County game.
  7. Defensive coordinator is a former Bee, Dustin Williams and Offensive Coordinator is Derik Samber.
  8. That's my understanding. Hoping the U wins out and takes that out of the equation.
  9. The Livingston and SC games are the only ones that first string offense have played in the fourth quarters. The second string have several td's on the year. Don't know exact numbers but I have seen Phillips score at least two or three from the QB position.
  10. I am assuming just the update on the 10:00 news. Somebody said today that the whole game might be on Channel 7 out of Cookeville. That wasn't from the most reliable of sources though.
  11. Didn't hear it from the U but from a Monterey coach. I actually know a lot of kids from all three Putnam County teams. Welcome to small town USA.
  12. He was the one who scheduled Monterey for week 0. I know that for certain. He had talked to Upperman about playing them instead but he wanted both of the two game series to be played at CHS and Baxter wouldn't agree to that.
  13. Cookeville doesn't have to do that. The teams in their district are typically so weak, they have no real competition. The move of Rhea County into the district upset their dynasty this year though.
  14. News Channel 4 has confirmed that TD Friday will be in Baxtet for the game on Friday night.
  15. No one ever had any doubt. Guess that's just the head games coaches try to play. Too funny though.
  16. Had to laugh reading Trapp's interview with the HC for today's paper when he commented that both Jennings and Milan are still uncertain for Friday due to injury. Surely he doesn't think anyone believes that they won't be on the field Friday night.
  17. I asked when I saw the signs up at the Gordonsville game and was told the TSSAA and school system attorney have said it is up to the home stadium what rules they enforce regarding outside noisemakers. They are not allowed at the clinic bowl either should you get there. Signs have been up at UHS since week 0 this season and the decision was made last year to have signs made after a request was made for DC not to bring the horn and they refused to comply.
  18. Signs have been up since the opening game this season. They were reviewed and approved by the school superintendent is what I was told.
  19. You might want to ask the opinion of someone who can actually construct a sentence where the subject and verb are in agreement.
  20. Glad to see a kid that has had to overcome so many personal adversities finding success.
  21. May depend on when he transferred and why. He may not have been eligible last year.
  22. I would imagine that they will do whatever they can to give them the best shot of staying undefeated and winning the district championship outright. However, if they think it might lead to York getting hurt going into the playoffs, who knows? They seemed to come up with an effective plan in the second half at LA without using him, so maybe they won't try to use him.
  23. I'm not close enough to the program to know. He has apparently practiced there some all year long according to the kids I know. Not sure if that's a 'just in case' thing or if they plan to try to use him on D in certain games besides LA. He has played D in previous years and was good - he likes to hit people.
  24. Not disagreeing about which coach will have the better strategy. I have no idea. Herron impresses me with the number of kids he's been able to get out for football and with the respect his team has for him and his staff. However, the Upperman game was the first game of the season that Mannjng and company did run the ball all night long. In my opinion, if they had used them in the game against Gordonsville, there would have been a different outcome. No doubt Smith has improved since then - same is true for Livingston since the DC game. Every team should be better in week 8 than week 2 or their coach isn't very good.
