  1. She was there for their second matchup of the season. Very talented young lady and a much closer game than the first.
  2. I believe the stats for the last 20 years would definitely agree that it was Metzgar and there were a few others in those two decades that would have an argument for being in the top five too.
  3. Chaffin has played for the Stingers since he was a pee-wee and has lived within a couple miles of the school his whole life. He’s one piece of a talented freshman class that has played together since they were six and who won a middle school championship last year. There’s no magic to where those kids came from.
  4. Rest assured that Cookeville did file a complaint and the TSSAA did come and investigate Rollins’s legitimate change of address last season when he was a sophomore. Terrence has played all four years at Upperman. Cullum transferred in as a freshman and sat out last year because he had practiced with Cookeville in the summer of 2021. Any other “new” kids transferred in directly out of middle school. Looks like Upperman isn’t exactly the zip code pirates that Cookeville claims.
  5. Games are sometimes shown on the Upper Cumberland Reporter Facebook page, but I haven’t heard which game they’re doing this week. Our players each only got two tickets because they also gave two to cheer and band parents and total seating for the home side is limited to 400. Many of our kids’ families are in the same situation and would like for the game to be live streamed. Our stadium is nice but undersized for a 3A school with almost 800 students.

  7. Not sure if the count is fall of 2020 if Upperman will grow that much, but the current seventh grade class at the middle school is supposed to be considerably larger than any before. That should mean fall of 2021 would put enrollment in the range that is currently 4A, but with open zoning in the county, anything is possible.
  8. Same. I don’t care if Alcoa recruits their entire team. We are playing Sequatchie ‘this Friday night and that’s the only team that matters this week. Who are the playmakers? What are their strengths and weaknesses? It’s late in the season, any significant losses due to injuries? The Bees have had some season-ending injuries that have had a big impact but have had younger kids step up and fill in the gaps.
  9. This one is for the region championship - again. The Bees have one loss to an undefeated Livingston 4A team and no losses in the region. The Indians have one region loss to the Owls. Thoughts on how this one will go? Does playing in Sequatchie give the Indians an advantage?
  10. Watched a lot of game film on hudl this weekend. Watertown has some talented athletes and this should be a great game. Wish we had a couple of the kids that we started the season with and lost to injury, but I still think it 's a pretty even match. Hoping senior night isn't a distraction to the team, but if anyone can have them ready, we have the coach to do it. I hope to see a good game that will help prepare both teams for a deep run in the playoffs - and I hope the Bees end up with at least one more point at the end of the game. GO BEES!
  11. Thanks to the players, coaches and fans from Grundy County. It is always a pleasure to host you in Baxter. You have some talented kids with huge heart and they played all out the whole game. You should be very proud of your kids and their families. They are a class act.
  12. Hope Grundy’s team and fans have a safe trip to Baxter. They are always a pleasure to host and a respectful bunch of kids. The Bees are coming off a bye and on fall break. That’s usually not a good mix, but Coach Caine seems to always make sure his team is ready for whatever is coming on Friday night. Hoping this one is no different.
  13. Great game - way too close for my blood pressure. Nice place to play and everyone was hospitable before, during and after the game. Thanks to the Indians for arranging for food to feed the players after the game. We will be sure to return the favor next season when you come to Baxter.
  14. Perhaps I was misunderstood, everyone has “heard” of Oneida and are aware that they have a great program. They have just never been there and know it’s a long drive from here. That being said, so is Grundy and they head there in droves every two years and it’s not a fun drive either.
  15. Upperman usually travels well - often having more fans than the home team. That being said, Oneida is a long haul from Baxter and most have never heard of it, so I expect a lot fewer than travel to region games.
  16. I would definitely agree. Our offense lost an all state receiver and running back to graduation. They’re definitely missed - it’s taking some time for the younger guys to get enough game experience to step up. We’ve lost a couple of linemen to injuries which doesn’t help. Game film looks like Oneida has some big guys on the line, so we will need our backups to come on strong this week.
  17. I know Oneida has a great team and a great coach. No one from Baxter is taking this game lightly - especially the players and coaches. Upperman has a solid D and a pretty good offense. This game could go either way for sure. One thing that I am almost certain of is that the QB for the Bees won’t be intimidated by how hard anyone hits. He’s played ball since he was about 5 and he has been smacked hard by kids from some big programs - including Cookeville, Livingston and Alcoa. He has the heart of a champion. If the Bees lose, it won’t be because he ever quit bringing it and I feel confident in our coach’s ability to put together a good plan. The question will be how well the young guys can execute it. We have an awful lot of sophomores starting on both sides of the ball.
  18. The Bees are a good 3A team with a kid with special talent at QB. This is their second year under their new head coach and he runs a very disciplined program. They lost a lot of skill players from their 2018 state semi-final team which is hard in a school that small, but have some younger kids stepping up. Oneida will be a big challenge for them. The game will likely be won in the trenches. What has Oneida got on the OL and DL?
  19. Home field rules at UHS say something about air horns are limited to touchdowns and runout and that they can't have propane tanks or fuel tanks. It's posted on the gates.
  20. Scoreboard was out last week and it was crazy not knowing how much time was left the whole game. I am sure they will have that issue resolved this week. Field was used to host the middle school championships during fall break in an absolute mud fest. Obviously, the grass won't recover from that this time of the year. If it stays dry this week, it should be fine though. Seating might be an issue - especially on the visitor side. The Cookeville game was insane with people climbing up on the baseball bleachers just trying to see over into the field. Don't think this one will be quite that bad though...
  21. Hoping senior night doesn't become a distraction for the Bees. All focus should be on winning this game. How does DeKalb usually play coming off of a bye week. It's usually not good for the U to take a week off.
  22. How is DeKalb health-wise coming into this game? They had a bye week to rest up, so is everyone ready to play?
