  1. Since he is such a good coach does he have more championships or more schools that he's been fired from or resigned from due to inappropriate actions?
  2. Umpires like it when the lines aren't there. At that point it becomes a "judgement" call for the plate ump. Judgement calls can't be argued or appealed. At that point, the ump can let the game be played without having to worry about the feet in addition to; balls, strikes, leaving base early (softball), balks, illegal pitch (softball), catcher obstruction, HBP, batter/coach calling time, foreign objects (stray balls) on the field or any of a number of things that the home plate ump has to watch for in that 3 second period of time between wind up and completion of pitch.
  3. Hixson will never be a power house in basketball as long as Brainerd, Howard, Tyner and East Ridge stay loaded with athletes. Hometown hero may be the best thing to happen with Hixson to bring some life back into the program. Disbow had the athletes to do better than what he did. His personality bled over into the team. That's why they couldn't win. Always too busy crying about what the officials were doing.
  4. Yeah. We all know that travel ball coaches don't play favorites, right? Get real. Most travel teams exist because the parents don't like the lack of playing time little Susie gets when she has to compete for PT on the school team. If you don't like your HS coach, don't play and just focus in travel ball. Simple solution.
  5. Play with a Head Coach, one Assistant Coach and zero parents in the stands. That will cut down on 100% of the drama.
  6. From the video that I saw it appeared that the ump was waiting on his partner more so than trying to argue. 1st rule in umping is you never leave the field without your partner, especially when a team is disputing a call or calls. The field ump appeared to be detained by a coach on the inside of the fence while the plate ump had made his way outside. The coach that was between the ump and the players obviously has no control over his team as they were all moving towards the ump. Fans were also getting involved and running their mouth. Sad day when the coaches have no control of their team and fans. Like the call or not, right call or not, it's over with and the thuggish actions by the coaches, players and fans of Coalfield were not going to change it. I agree that with Coalfield's history of altercations, the TSSAA should impose some harsh penalties on the school, even take away sports for a year or two. There is no place in high school sports for this kind of behavior.
  7. I notice that none of the private supporters attempted to answer my question so I'll ask again. If you don't have any advantage and if everyone should feel compelled to play better competition, why are you fighting so hard to stay out of DII and why are some teams coming back out of DII? Simple answer is that you enjoy the "unfair" advantage that you have over public schools because you can get kids/athletes from all over and do t have to take every kid that walks through your front door. (Same reason you can claim better grad rates and college bound students BTW). My school is a public school but we choose to have private schools on our regular season schedule in every sport. We don't run and are not afraid of them. We win some and lose some vs private schools so it all evens out. But there is no denying that the private schools that we play have a decided advantage over us in the way they can "select" the students who can attend.
  8. I don't really care if they split or not. We are a public school that plays some privates in regular season and post season. We choose the regular season games. My question to all of you private school supporters arguing against the split is this... If there isn't a difference, why do you not want to be put into a division with other, bigger, better privates? My guess is because you enjoy the athletic advantage you have over the publics. You know that you wouldn't have that same advantage in your own private division or else teams wouldn't make the switch back to public once they have been in DII. Say what you want, I know for a fact that the privates we play (by choice or force) each year actively recruit players. I know one school in particular whose head coach doesn't recruit but his son attends many middle school games and visits many rec centers looking for new talent. And he isn't shy about talking to the parents of the good athletes about the "advantages" of attending the school his dad coaches at. But, to be fair, I also know some publics who "recruit" players as well.
  9. Great story about Joe Galloway at Lookout Valley. Such a great coach and person. He always got the most out of his players. Just imagine what he could have done at a larger school where he could have had more athletes. Much respect.
  10. McCallie is not horrible but appear to be down a little. Not sure how many, if any, key players are out due to football. Howard is down early this year. I think Moose will have them playing well come tournament time. Wouldn't bet against them just yet. Boyd Buchannan looks to be the best Class A team around this year. Should follow their Sectional appearance up with a trip to the Boro. Haven't seen East Hamilton or Tyner yet this year so can't comment on them.
  11. Winning1- it's easy to come on here and hide behind screen names and blast Coaches who work hard to put competitive teams on the floor. So much is involved in coaching that the average fan such as yourself has no idea about. My challenge to you is this, before you get on here bashing the coaches, go back to school, get a degree, get certified to teach, find a teaching job, find a coaching job, and get you a healthy dose of what it takes to coach at the high school level. Then if you still feel that the coaches are horrible, you can get back on here and bash away. My gut feeling is that you could never complete the first requirement of getting the degree.
