  1. A better question would be. How many Youth coaches spend less then $1000.00 year out of their own pocket to travel, expenses, and to subsidize for the kids that can't pay. Most the coaches I know in the AAU not only spent countless hours but countless financial resources..... except for the director and a hand-full of others that get a stipend and expenses paid by AAU. Of course those are the same one's that decided that Knoxville should have two Regions while Chattanooga and Nashville only have one. I wonder if anyone else noticed the director asleep in a hammock in the $5000 AAU trailer parked in the end zone while our champs stood on a 2 x2 sand bag as the medalist sat on the floor in their awards ceremony.
  2. Good point, I was thinking of the other Elkin at 120# that almost beat the junior from Ryan . You are right though, if he can make 113, It would even give more depth because he is so tall, he could be "bumped" around if necessary to 120#. Anyone know how did he do at Prep Nationals?
  3. Is the Job Dooley the same family as Patrick Dooley that won 160# last year? If so is he going to Ryan? I think wrestling God said he was a Simpson nephew.
  4. Wow, Looks like a great team. Any chance that you get could get Simpson, Elkin, King and Reineke to go as well? That would give us alot of depth and a really tough team.
  5. Ouch....All of those guys would have placed this year. I know for a fact that two of those kids beat the kids that tool 2nd in both divisions. Sounds like we need to get them to spread out and have a TN team in a few years like we did when. Simpson, Keller, Sweeten (tullahoma, I think that was his name), Blackmen and Ward all came through. I saw them whip Michican in the finals of the national duals and we forfieted at HWY. Rusty Blackmen won at 195 (what is 220# now ) and we were forfeting HWY. The Michican kid called him out when he walked off the mat and said, "that's right, you dind'nt want any part of me" He looked over at Steve Henry and motioned can I go? Henry looked at the other coach and the coach said sure (with a look of I hope yall kick his ####). Blackmen had no rest and........Well that is what happened, He kicked his ####.
  6. sorry for the typos, I'm mobil
  7. If you will check, the numbers coming through the gates are significantly higher then they were when they were in Chattanooga. The finals are fairly consistent but the prilimanery rounds are singnificanlty higher. Now obviously there are many more kids participating now for a longer period of time with it being double elimination. Non the less...If you want people to take you seriously, you may want to post factual information as such as opposed to your opinion, Please do you due dilegence for the integrity of this great sport throwing erroniuos data arounf
  8. agreed although the kid from Lawrence county (I think around 100) is amazing too. I don't think they even have a HS program yet. One of the boarding schools need to jump on him.
  9. Plus, no such thing as a team score with the AAU state tournament....If you are using the numbers thing to hang your hat on.....come on man.....We'll give you a medal for numbers if you want. That makes it even worse. You all get a medal for participation but..... The question is, Why did Chattanooga get destroyed by Nashville, Memphis and knoxville. Not just beat....but destroyed.
  10. Oh I See,,,,, so is Reinche (and others) higher calling or Baylor?
  11. Right on Right on CBG. You obviouslly have a better insight on TN and National wrestling then most on this board. I couldn't agree with you more. We need to have on division. It is not fair to the kids. Look at the parity this year, it is a perfect example. If you go back and look at head to head competition, or use seed criteria, for the myriad state champs. DII has 2 state champions, D1 wins 9 state champs and DI/small wins 3 state champs. These kids deserve more than this.
  12. Gotcha, kinda like hendersonvile, and brentwood are close to Nashville (10 miles). Nashville did not have one single kid from Nashville metro schools compete either.
  13. dooley beat whiteside in the state last year by a major so whiteside decidde to go 110 this year
  14. Funny how facts can get lost in the shuffle with this Durdon Guy. Se other post on AAU state. He seems to think that Chattanooga wasn't competitive because they forfeited 4 weight classes....OK I'll give you that...forfeiting four weight classes out of 22 weight classes is tough. Here's the big question...Why did you forfeit 4 weight classes (not enough interest, competitive wrestlers, etc. etc)... Oh yea, let's say they pinned in all those weight classes....they still loose by 20 points.
  15. That's weird, let's keep that quite though so that the cleveland, bradley, Soddy, East ridge, and red bank kids that competed don't get in trouble
  16. Gotcha... so let's say they had those 4 kids. Let's assume they split 2 -2....probalby wouldn't happen since Chatt didn't even have a quality kid at those classes....1, 2. 3 . 4 to compete...but just for arguments sake, let's say they split. Nashville still wins by 40 points. That's allot. the big question is though, should one of the knoxvile regions combine with chatt region so that they can be more competitive. I'm not trying to divide the state here. It just seems silly that Chatt and knoxville have 3 of the 5 regions and can't compete with Nash and Memphis. I was there and I really felt sorry for Chatt and Knox kids, they were so under competitive that it was not good for the sport. look at the scores. Something needs to change. The kids deserve more. PS: exactly 50% of the state champs came from middle tennessee. one of 5 regions
  17. Looks to me like the Memphis region beat Chatt by almost 50 points. Am I missing something here?????? Does anyone know why Knoxville has 2 regions and Chatt, Mid TN, and memphis only have 1? Unless I'm wrong, it looks like Knox area combined has less state champs then any region and worse,.... It looks like their kids (both teams) got masacurd in the duals. That is not good for the kids or the sport. One might say that the other coaches ran up the score....but what are they suppossed to do...let a kid forfeit who's family has traveled and stayed over night for their kid to have this opportunitty?
  18. MatWiz said he was. Is that not true? I think we are making progress here with everyone working together. While we are pondering and eventually lobbying this though. Let's Brainstorm getting it back to one real state tournament or at least add a grand State Championship where the top 4 from D1 go, Top2 from D2, 1st from small school and 14 wildcards.......or something similar to that.
  19. I was talking about the 160# from last year . Patrick Dooley, one of the Simpson nephews. If his Herpes had shown up one day earlier....he would have never won a state Championship. Non the less.....if most people will remember before it moved from McKenzie; everyone was pissed about the rigidness of the tournament and the "food Nazis". Champion Wrestlers are usually creatures of habit and have a routine that is important to them after weigh-ins. Money forced everyone to break thoughs habits by ethier eating out of a concession stand....not good before a match, or leave the premises. PS: Money did not go to TSSAA from concedssion stand. At the AG center, I actually saw one team that had a microwave, lots of friut and cooolers full of fluids and food for their wrestlers and fans. It was almost like a "tailgate" but with nutrional food and beverages.....oh and the AG center even paid for the electricity to run the microwave. Sounds like we need to pick our battles. Reality is, Chattanooga is the least likely facility to be hosting a state tournament.Less then 15 % of the wrestlers competing come from a 100 mile radius of Chattanooga . 70 % + come from 100 mile radius of middle TN. My solution: Go to district format where ALL teams particpate. If I'm a small school, that may be my goal....to win the district. Top four wrestlers go to Regionals (4 regions) . Regional boundaries would be decided around (numbers participating in wrestling). Top Four in Regionals would qualify for the state tournament with a 16 man bracket. Could be done easily in two days on 4 mats. Of course, we would only have 14 state champs instead of 52 and not every kid would get a medal. Also the 3 and 4 time state champs would disapper.
  20. PS: When we say that kids weren't able to compete at the State tournament because of "skin diseases" you need to look at McCallie, CBHS, Overton, WC, etc, etc. regional sites) Most of the ones that Ben oulined were from Chattanooga, so my guess is that those kids are getting it in Chattanooga at their regional tournament and affecting the rest of the state. I know the 160# stae champ broke out with severe Hereps 1 day after the state tournament. As most of us know, it takes 5 - 10 days to inquebate. It must have come from Chattanooga based on the theory that you all are giving. There were "NO" kids....I repaeat "NO" kids that did not get to wrestle in the State tournament because they caught a skin infecton during THE STATE tournament. They came from somewhere else at least 5 days before. This really makes our wrestling community look illiterate.
  21. Cody, Thank you for doing this however you may want to continue down the path Reichel was on....trying to justify it by other reasons other just lobbying to get it back in Chattanooga. Believe me I know where your heart is and what you're trying to do. I think people have "high jacketed" your intentions for their own motivation. I saw where Jackie __________ (want name her, we know her as a wrestling person and was married to a UTC wrestler) signed on poll and she has never even been to the "cow palace" . She obviously got a phone call or e-mail to being it back to Chattanooga. If that is the agenda, I think you ought to be transparent about it. Reality is that the best place in the state would be at the pyramid (Memphis) where the Grizzlies play, Bridgestone (Where the preds play) or the Pat head Summit center where the VOLS play. Below is another self serving attitude that is being portrayed my the Chattanooga contingent. Again, I to think it should be moved and Ben was on the right path.....just make it look a little less biased towards Chatt. One idiot even stateted that it needed to be moved because Chattanooga was so much stronger then the other areas. He obviously did not attend the tournament this year. In DII (chatts strong hold) they only had one finalist before the 138# weight class. see below. Andrew Roberts NORCROSS, GA about 19 hours ago Liked 0 TSSAA it's 2015 so step it up and get this tournament back to Chattanooga where it belongs. This little stunt you tried in Franklin hasn't worked the way you imagined, it's clear that Southeastern Tennessee schools, both public and private, big and small, still dominate the tournament every year. Now, do us all a service and get this, what could be special event, back in Chattanooga or al least Nashville proper ASAP. P.S. And don't give me the economics excuse, it's tired and we're sick of hearing it. Get creative, update your website, and raise some capital. Cheers, Drew Roberts
  22. PS: Austin Peay did a great job on 8 mats for less then 500 participants, ! minute rounds, 50% pins and no mandatory rest period between matches. Alot of kids in the consolations only had 10 minutes between matches. You can not mathmatically do that under HS rules, Not TSSAA rules...National assciation rules.
  23. No RGiii, I was not saying, "have your coaches and administration complain to the TSSAA." There are enough people doing that. Have them come up with a solution and present a proposal, just like they did when they choose to eliminate the District, Region, and state format. Your coaches, AD's and principals are the ones that decided to take the state tournament from 12 State Champions and only 36 other medalist to,,,,, 52 state champions (more state champs then previous medalist) and another 144 medalist. Lipscomb, UTC and Glencliff HS were able to run a very effiecient state tournament on three mats in less then 2 days.
  24. Believe me, I not oppossed to seeing it somewhere else. It is almost too big of a venue. Don;t know if I agree with the sanitary piece though. I've spent alot of time in gyms for decades and the public areas at the "palace" are the best I've seen. You could eat off the floors in the rest rooms. I loved it at McClellan, but reality is, the restrooms were filthy, with commodes stopped up and over-flowing. We know what happens to a wrestlers bodies when deprived of food and liquuid for day's and then purged after weigh-ins. McClellan as well as all Highschools are flooded by stopped up toilets, with feces and vomit rendering everything except the urinals unsuable. Does anyone know if there is a facilty at MTSU with enough floor space? TSU, AP, Vanderbilt, UT and TTU have plenty of seating, but what i've seen, not enough mat space with the current format.
