  2. Shhhh guys...don't tell TTP about this, it will only cause more cognitive dissonance http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/article/122720/forward-pass-takes-a-major-step-backward
  3. Beer man, you are right. I thought we were gaining a lot of support as we progressed through the season and felt we would have a better gate than Grundy would (or at least comparable), aside from the traditional in-County rivalry aspect. I try to respect those types of things. I will say that I went to the playoff game against TC and to Cookeville and was impressed with the fan base that MC has. Even though we consider them a rivalry, I view it the same as Alabama. If they play anybody in the SEC, I pull for the other team. If they are playing somebody outside the SEC, I am pulling for Bama. I think the Warriors had a great team this year, but without #1 and #66 it will be a very different team next year. Still a very good team, and well-coached, but not as good as this year's team. #1 is special, and #66 was a player that I believe was one of the most under-rated players I've seen. The kid had a motor that would not stop and created problems for everybody they played against. I just found it very disappointing that we did not get a game that has been a long-standing rivalry for I don't know how many years. We had Eddie Brown come talk to our guys this year during camp, and when he talked about the MC Whitwell game, you could tell he was still tuned in to the rivalry. Aside from the rivalry, now $ will be going to another county instead of staying in our county...
  4. Truth Prevails? First, not an excuse. They were the better team. From a comprehension standpoint, my mention was exclusively based upon their realization as a staff that we were able to accomplish what we did without those starters and presumably, in forecasting next year's schedule, that may have factored into the decision not to play us. Now, onto your lack of knowledge about the stats (two games that I have viewed the stats from those published publicly). Whitwell: Yards Rushing 49 Carries 218 yards 4.4 ypc Yards Passing 6 of 9 for 38 yards Total Yards: 256 Grundy: Yards Rushing 21 Carries 68 yards 3.2 ypc Yards Passing 19 of 34 for 232 yards Total Yards: 300 Actually, we post our stats on a website for everybody to see (not just TFP) and if I am not mistaken (although I could be) you were the one who speculated a couple of weeks ago on another thread that nobody had over 200 total yards against MCHS during the year. I also believe you may have added a disclaimer that you weren't absolutely sure of that, so here's what I have gathered for you. (These stats are on a site that is blocked from publishing on this site, but it sounds like Maks Preps) If you doubt my numbers, I would be glad to break down film and show you. I have retained the video on Hudl.
  5. Good points. I was a bit confused because I noted they scheduled South Pittsburg and Grundy (discretionary games) in their upcoming two year cycle. The reason it was an elusive concept was based upon the following: Q: Of their 9 regular season victories, what team(s) played them in the closest margin of victory? A: Whitwell (33-6) and Grundy (49-22) both 27 point victories Q: Of the two teams listed, who held them to the fewest points (among their regular season victories) of any regular season opponent? A: Whitwell I believe Coach Ross and his staff to be very good coaches and considering this, I also know they are very meticulous in their game planning. So much so, that they realize we had three starting Offensive Lineman that did not play in the game against them (#5, #70 and #53), yet we played them closer than seven of their other regular season victories. Now, factor in that we will be bringing back all three of our running backs from a backfield that led the State of Tennessee in Rushing in 2A for the regular season and I think I can deduce through rational inference what transpired... Everybody I've talked to who is familiar with Football in the Sequatchie Valley and the traditional rivalries were shocked to find out they would not play us. I offered four different dates (Weeks 4, 6, 8, and 10) a week prior to the Region Meetings (and I retained documentation regarding same).
  6. Pujo, that was a good one. Reminded me of the documentary about Florida High School Football in the cane fields catching rabbits. I was at the 2000 Fiesta Bowl. I will be studying that film again (as painful as it was for this old Vol Fan). I learned much from it regarding speed vs. power football. Tennessee had all the speed that year... What is critical, is to be able to adapt to the player-personnel that is available in your school. I will say that Peabody had a lot of team speed, but they also had some nice interior guys (#62 comes to mind), and I like #8 on the defensive side of the ball. Quick acceleration into the backfield on his keys and he's a good solo tackler. #7 is a very talented player. We faced a similar player (#5) from Trousdale (very good running back, one of the best pure runners I have seen in a while he reminded me of a cross between Robert Smith and Roger Craig), but we did not wrap and tackle well against them. If #7 grows any more, he's going to be even tougher. He had a lot of carries against the Warriors. The more they have to rely on him, it increases the percentages of him taking a lot more hits (especially when a lot of his carries are up the middle). Is there a backup QB for them with the same skill sets? We will be returning three running backs from a backfield that had a regular season rushing total of 3,461 yards with a 7.1 ypc avg. We had some difficulty finding folks to schedule us. I was able to get Columbia Academy to agree to play us and Davidson Academy, but it was tough to find other non-traditional games. Our first two games are with 3A opponents so we will be against the numbers to start the season, although ultimately we believe it will be good for us in the long run. We will be putting in work to get better.
  7. Peabodypride I was at the game Saturday and was very impressed with your team. During the off-season I find myself looking at all kinds of information during our post-season program analysis. I am hoping you can give me some insight. I have been doing some research, and I've found a discrepancy on the numbers of player-personnel listed on the maks preps website Roster and the Photographic Roster posted on the school website. The school website shows 23 Juniors (maks preps website shows 17 Juniors) The school website shows 18 Sophomores (and 1 Sophomore Team Mgr.) and maks preps website website shows 17 Sophomores. I show Peabody with an enrollment of 395 (based upon calculations submitted to TSSAA) which would yield a participation rate of 12.4% when calculated with the 2014 maks preps website Roster of 49. If the school website is correct, it would indicate there are 72 players (from Freshmen to Seniors) which would yield an 18.2% participation rate. Does this sound accurate? There is no roster data on the maks preps website for their JV or their Freshmen link. Do you know which roster is the most current/accurate?
  8. Wingman, we don't have scrimmages set yet. Waiting to see the #'s we will have for Spring Ball. Had to run Spring last year without a QB as both were in baseball. We were able to get reps with #7 taking snaps. We did not have enough for a red and white game. I believe we may see more interest this year. We also did double duty to get base stuff installed with incoming Freshmen. HS Staff ran Spring Ball for Middle School after HS was done so we could have the incoming guys get familiar with system. We are not afforded the same opportunities as some schools who have MS and HS in same buildings (in accordance with TSSAA guidelines). I am researching Title VI standing regarding an equal protection issue to seek a potential remedy for that.
  9. Thanks Coach! We hope you get a chance to come to a game in 2015. If you can make it to one, I don't think you will be disappointed. We have quite a few young men out for wrestling. It will pay off!
  10. The 2015 Schedule has been posted on our Welcome Page. We hope you get a chance to come out next season and see the Tigers. #TigerTown #WhitwellFootball #RedCollarWorkEthic #DiamondTOffense #BringIt Link to Welcome Page: http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=whitwellfootball&sid=80189173
  11. Thanks D60, I hope you are recovering well and hope your Son is doing well also.
  12. Update: Sorry for the confusion. For some reason site will not let me edit my original post. Game 3 Should read: @Davidson Academy 09/04/15
  13. Thanks pujo. The young men in our program invested themselves to the extent necessary to be successful. They've grown physically and intellectually and have begun a process of transformation and elevated expectations. We have a very good staff of hard working men (Coaches: Atterton, Cabell, Easterly, Mosier, and Weiss) that are excellent role models and put in many hours. I ask a lot of them (during the Summer as well for 4 days a week in our Strength and Conditioning Program). We have a new Principal that has been very supportive and understands what is necessary to facilitate success and has been a part of the community her whole life. We have an Assistant Principal that has been a tremendous resource to me and our entire program and also understands what it takes. We had a very supportive QB Club that helped keep the young men fed to have sustainable energy for the practice sessions and games and help out with the extra items necessary to run a program. We had members of the community that stepped up and donated funds toward new helmets (40), shoulder pads (40), and team cleats (40) because they believe in what we're doing and how we're going about it. It is extremely tough when you have to play 8 or 9 guys both ways, but in the words of Coach Bryant... "Tough times don't last, but tough people do." We are optimistic about the upcoming year. I feel truly blessed to have young men, coaches, administration, support staff and families that are willing to put in the time and energy to get it done. I also am fortunate to have a beautiful and supportive wife who understands what and why I do the things that I do. We are building a program and I believe Whitwell is a special place with tremendous potential. #RedCollarWorkEthic #WhitwellFootball #TigerTown We appreciate that you've noticed. If you ever get down this way, please stop in for a game. If you send me a PM, I will put you on the pass list for the game of your choice. Thank you.
  14. I offered four different dates (Game 4, 6, 8, and 10) on November 10th and again on November 11th (a week prior to Region Meetings).

  16. Congratulations Warriors! Good ball game last night. #5 (TC) one of the best backs I've seen in a long time. #1 (MC) the best all-around football player we've played this year. I expect to see the Warriors in Cookeville. They've been getting stronger as the season has developed.
  17. Thank you. Clay McHone is an exceptional young man and a great football player. If his past work ethic is an indicator, I have every confidence he will be back next year. He is very determined and resilient. We've made adjustments, and the next man has stepped up. Like many programs in 1A and 2A, players are injured and that definitely impacts your organization. We've been playing Iron Man football all year. Our entire backfield starts both ways, and the majority of our interior line does as well. The young men are excited about making it to the playoffs for the first time in 9 years. They've done what we've asked of them and we are extremely demanding. We are thankful that we have an upcoming bye week and are cautiously optimistic about the next few weeks.
  18. I have already submitted my votes for this year's prospective candidates, but I can't vote for my own players, so I am hoping that you can take a look at one of my exceptional young men who plays with absolute determination and tenacity on every play and I respectfully request your consideration. He's overcome a lot since last year (he broke his ankle and was on pace for a 1,000 yard season as a Sophomore). Whitwell High School Jr. #7-Cody Ingrassia-5'6"-140lbs. 2014 Regular Season Totals 110 Carries 1,018 Yards 9.25 Per Carry 14 Rushing TD's and 7 2-Point Conversions for a Season Total of 98 Points. He's done this, in an offense wherein there are three other players who've gained over 500 yards rushing (McHone-725, Tate-636, and Sartin-559). It's also an offense that rushes the ball on 88.8% of it's plays and opponents know it. The last four games of the season, he was pulled from the lineup twice at the end of the 2nd Quarter and twice in the first couple of minutes of the 3rd Quarter due to the score. Otherwise, he could've easily had over 1,500 yards rushing, but we do not consider that an honorable way to do business. He also starts on Defense, and returns Punts and Kickoffs. If you've seen him play, you know he is unafraid of anybody. He will hit you. He is also a "yes sir", "no sir" young man! Any consideration you can give him is very much appreciated. Very Respectfully, R.C. Helton
  19. We would like to invite everybody out to Whitwell High School for our Home Opener against Midway High School. Kickoff: 7:00pm (CDT) If you like to see a team run the football, this should be a good one. Midway is coming off a 365 yard game of total offense and Whitwell is coming off a 429 Yard Rushing effort on 39 carries. Come out and see us!
  20. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who were a part of making the 2014 Sequatchie Valley Jamboree a success. While there were numerous people in our community who were involved, I want to specifically thank the Whitwell Quarterback Club, our Principal Teena Casseday, Assistant Principal and Director of Football Operations Paul Underwood, Director of Schools Mark Griffith, and the Marion County School Board. There are many others who contributed that worked quietly, humbly, and tirelessly to ensure a smooth-running event. We appreciate the participating schools, their coaching staffs and their administrations. Lastly we want to thank the fans from all of the participating schools, who support football and what it represents for our society, and for our young men who will be the future leadership of our country and our respective communities. Thanks to all of you!
