Yeah, we've been fortunate against them so far. The closest game was 43-22.

It seems like every time we've met SP in the playoffs, they have throttled us.  The year that SP had Eddie Moore, we gave you all a good game for a half.  I believe the score was 6-0 and Coalfield was inside the Pirates 10 yard line and we faked the spike and threw for a TD but the ref blew the play dead. We should have been tied or ahead if wasn't for ref missing the call before the half.  But after intermission the pirates spanked us royally!  I think the final score was 60-6. The only Coal truck on the field that night was Moore. He was a beast!

I am going on the opinion of other programs around the area and East. I’m not sure leather helmets were a thing in the 1992 season when Oneida won a state championship (just 3 football classes including private schools) Or the 1994 season semifinals team(2A with 3 classes including private schools) there have been numerous semifinal teams over the years including 2008 and a very good 2012 team I believe it was. During the Coach May senior tenure yes they were a bone to be chewed year in and year out. The “it’s just Oneida” mentality is really the last 10 or so years honestly. Before that dating back quite a long way while no gold balls came to Oneida not a lot of folks looked forward to that game. Now, well least just say things have changed. As for a definitive answer I believe the folks like @orngnblk @pujo @rtl112 and several other old timers give their opinions on if Oneida was considered a “powerhouse” or not until the last decade or so but I would say the late 80’s and the 90’s yes. In the T$$AA era (1969 to present I believe)we’ve had 1 championship, 8 semifinals and 9 round 3 games. Since then the program has a 67% winning percentage at 513-257-5 and 18 district/region championships and I’d have to look but I’d be willing to bet a larger number came in the 3 class with private schools playing public era than the multiple class/multiple division setup we currently have. But a smart fellar like you likely already knew most of that now didn’t ya? I give credit where its due, no way a guy knows that much about a school system but failed to realize they had a modern era championship and the Jim May senior era.

Oneida has been one of the best teams in the upper east over the years.  Everybody has there ups and downs. Oneida does things with class and respect most of all.  I know they are circled  on our schedule every year.

BTW other than this completely hijacking this topic and our almost universal disagreement on most topics I do enjoy this type of conversation. Just wish it wasn’t one sided from a program perspective. It would be nice to be able to pick apart your program in return ya know :thumb:

I knew they was something behind all the success the Indians have had all these years!

From what I’ve heard this should be one of the best teams to ever come through this school, would be curious as to if that’s an accurate statement.  They must feel pretty confident putting the Pirates on their schedule right out the gate on game 1. The Pirates are loaded from what I’m hearing and if my source wasn’t pulling my chain have some of the best looking freshman collectively that has ever came through that program and that’s saying a lot.

I don't know, Oz had some tough teams back in the old days.  Oz's opening game will be gut check time for sure.  I'm on board with OnB, it should be a slaughter rule.

Yes from what was posted last year about the underclassmen, they are about to be South Pitt again!I really don't know of any teams on our side that will compete. Unless Gordy was young but I'm thinking not so.Everyone also lost alot.OS may be 2nd or 3rd in our region but that don't mean much right now.CF lost a few but should still win the region,Rockwood will challenge. We (Greenback) have a mess to fix before we can start really competing for the top two spots.I hope the new Coach can hit the ground running but to much turmoil on the team to fix at first but who knows we are Greenback and we have tough hard nosed kids that need to be reminded of that!

If Greenbacks new coach can coach then GB may be right in the thick of things I bet!

You were probably done gone when we played coalfield in 92

Yeah, my last football season was 1990.  I never got the pleasure of playing you guys but have attended several games.  How's the Highlanders looking for next year?  The last few years have been pretty good runs for guys.  I know you all were banged up last year in the playoffs. I was looking forward to a rematch in the playoffs " at home for a change".

What was your number when you played.  I played at GB during that time frame.  May have crossed paths.

I'm sure we did, #22 TB/OLB . Greenback was the first team to cross the 50 yard line that year against us in a 10-7 hard fought victory. We met again in the 2nd round of playoffs in which we won 15-0.   The following week we were eliminated by Trousdale County who scored more points than we had  scored  against us in total  of all season (35).  It took 23 more years before Greenback got a playoff victory against us when we met in the playoffs.  But when GB got that Monkey off their back it seemed like they probably had their best decade in school history till the last few seasons.  Be interesting to see where it goes from here!

  8. Ryan would be my pick if he's in the running.   Played against him, great QB, he had great accuracy and timing.  I knew he would be special when we played against him as a sophmore.  We did shut him out twice that year, but we were arguably had the best defense in school history. ( 9 shutouts that year ) not meaning to brag, lol!  I would like to think that he was the best Qb in Greenback history,  Heck, he set all kinds of records at ETSU !

Who are some assistants from the area (Knox included) that would fit the mold at Greenback?  I would think someone with years of experience and been a part of great programs and leadership is what ya'll need.  Someone ready to be a head coach not someone to continue being one if that makes sense...

So in other words you are saying a coach without head coaching experience that is hungry to become one.  We took that route a couple years ago.

As an outsider looking in I see your coach has been there 20 years now since 2003. I personally see Harriman as a dying old town with a school that has gotten smaller over the decades. I do know for a fact that Harriman had an enrollment of 500 in the mid 80's only to have 360 now and has fallen down to 1A level football. There was a time I remember Maryville playing Harriman in the playoffs back in the 80's and to see how they have went backwards into time is unbelievable. Back in 1963 they shut South Harriman High School down and combined it into Harriman and also brought on more students during integration that year from another school that was also shut down. I was in Harriman this past summer for a week on business and was very easy to see why the younger people in the past few generations have packed their bags and got out of there because the place has nothing to offer and very understandable why the enrollment is down 150 kids over the past 40 years. It would be a hard place to win in football for any coach knowing your going to have to build on what you have with no hope of attracting anyone from the outside to come there.

    Very insightful and true

I don’t see that the east would have turned out any different the past several years. The elite kids that Greenback had several years ago were men among boys.

Just having a little fun, but I agree that it's not all coaching.  They ain't had near the talent as they had prior to the past few years.  No disrespect,  they've had some really talented kids come through there.

  12.  If everybody would rally behind the coach instead of scrutinizing him then I bet things will start improving.  How's the coach suppose to coach with that going on.  I would definitely give him one more year at the least!  You see what happen to Tennessee the past couple of decades with their impatients, they never gave any of the coaches time to settle in and prove their self.

Maybe. He could even be a good OC if he had a HC telling him some of the big decisions to make like personnel and overall schemes to run based on the roster. He’s just proven when he’s calling the shots good things rarely come from it. Not saying he’ll never be a good HC but he ain’t there yet.

I'd say give this ole boy another shot, his best is yet to come.

I bet you got a closet full of ugly Christmas sweater vests.

The sweater vesters have lost their mojo the past several seasons.  I actually went and watched a game several years back between you all and Grace.  I think Grace won 6-0 in overtime.  I think SP wins if it wasn't raining though.
