  1. Tasia can flat out play. Crockett got out scored 16-1 in the 3rd and couldn't recover. Craigmont beating Haywood sets up 2 awesome sectional match ups. Goodluck WV and CC!
  2. I saw 9 different refs in 7AA. They were consistent, but called the game differently than we've seen all year. They loved to call the carry and travel violations. I saw the FIRST called 3 second violation of the year and a lot of jump balls that would have been fouls in the regular season. Over the back calls were also non-existent. At first, I thought they were bad, but then realized they just call the game differently. Makes me wonder about our West TN officials..
  3. Dyersburg's leading scorer Myah Taylor is going on to the next level at UTM. Dyersburg graduates starting point guard Kim Tate and McKenzie Davidson. However, Davidson had minimal playing time this year. Dyersburg returns 4 players that started a significant amount of games throughout the season. Rising seniors Shakaila Smith and Peyton Holland, rising sophomore Samariah Thompson, and rising junior Essence Bailey all return. Thompson and Smith each were leading scorers for the Lady Trojans multiple games this season. Rising Juniors Charnette Livingston and Janie Crawford had some quality playing time off the bench this year as well. Although not confirmed, I also am hearing that at least 3 athletes of other sports may join the Lady Trojans next season. Two of those could have an immediate impact if that rumor turns out to be true. All in all, losing a ball handler like Tate and scorer like Taylor will be tough, but like most in this district, young talent is abundant.
  4. For being on the road, Dyersburg shot the ball really well, especially from 3. Myah Taylor scored 27. The Lady Trojans led by as much as 13 and never trailed until about 2 minutes remaining. After an unusual attempt to save the ball involving a Bolivar cheerleader, Dyersburg lost the ball out of bounds with about 5 seconds. On the inbound play, Myah forced a tie-up and Dburg had the alternate possession. Myah Taylor and Samariah Thompson Put up 2 decent shots with under 5 seconds that didn't fall. Deal breaker for Dyersburg: 30 turnovers. The Bolivar Central gym reeks of "you ain't winnin here," and I'm glad we don't have to play there every year. As for semi-finals, I'll take Crockett County over Bolivar and Westview over Lexington.
  5. Obion played Fayette Ware the second game of the season on a neutral floor and lost by 8. Winning at OCC is difficult enough in the regular season (ask Westview), but tomorrow night it will be jumpin. Might be a silly reason, but take this as my upset pick. (Even though OCC is the higher seed, I think this would be an upset) South Gibson is simply outmatched, and SS is simply too good. Westview shoots the ball incredibly well at home, and they're playing about as well as they can without Sams. Justin Johnson has stepped up. If he can keep his composure, wouldn't be surprised if he shows out again tomorrow. WV can flat out shoot the 3 ball. As much as I would like for Dburg to pull the upset, we lack size. Playing at Lexington will be incredibly difficult.
  6. I'll go as far as predicting who makes it to the semifinals: Obion vs SS Westview vs Lexington
  7. There's really no way to dispute that Westview- as host- was who made the decisions regarding the tournament. Or maybe you meant to type the word "just" in your first sentence. I don't see why anyone at Dyersburg--or SGC or OCC for that matter-- would have been opposed to playing today's games. Why would Dyersburg not want the opportunity to improve their seeding? WV did have to go to "that extent" by clearing the parking lot. When a school hosts a district tournament, clearing snow and ice from the parking lot is the host school's responsibility. Maybe if that was done Saturday morning we could have avoided having to play on Sunday. Like all host sites, Dyer County cleared a much larger parking lot in less time for the 13AAA tournament. They played their games Saturday... All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the games at Westview (minus the drive). How the tournament was handled in regards to the weather, however.. eh.. it was iffy. It was a difficult situation given that Westview was the northernmost host site and the northernmost school in our district, but I'm just thankful the kids got finish things out.
  8. Bolivar, who has been under a winter weather advisory today, apparently received some wintry precipitation tonight. The high temperature tomorrow in Bolivar is 28 degrees. Dyersburg doesn't have school tomorrow, Bolivar hasn't decided yet. If roads are hazardous, whose call is it regarding the region quarter-final tomorrow? And if the game isn't played tomorrow, what's next?
  9. Lexington defeated Bolivar 57-48 in the 14-AA district championship. The stage is set for tomorrow night. McNairy @ Crockett SS @ Westview Dyersburg @ Bolivar SGC @ Lexington Should be some great games.
  10. Not to take away from your single A discussion lol, but in more relevant news, SS defeats McNairy 57-31 in 14-AA consolation. McNairy will play at Crockett County Tuesday. SS will play at WV Tuesday. Lexington led Bolivar 31-21 after at the half, but now Bolivar has cut the lead to one. 38-37 Lexington at the end of 3rd quarter.
  11. Unless I missed it, there was no explanation of why the games were moved from Sunday.
  12. Martin is the northernmost tourney site in West TN. I think today could have been manageable, but when you're dealing with the safety of our students.. well you know. Although, it may end up being very convenient for WV because to be quite honest, I don't know if we'll get to play tomorrow. It's already 34 degrees in Martin. Low tonight there is 27 with a slight chance of snow. The high temp tomorrow is 32, getting down into the teens tomorrow evening. Any remaining moisture and new precipitation will likely refreeze/freeze on the roadways by tomorrow especially if it is cloudy as the forecast indicates. Today was just as good, if not a better option than tomorrow. At least it's above freezing today. I think we all just have cabin fever and we're ready to play ball, but I must admit the decisions regarding this tourney and weather have been pretty silly.
  13. It's been said that Weakley County's superintendent was the one that overruled the school's coaches decision to play last Sunday. WV is guaranteed a number 1 seed in the region tourney if the games don't take place so I'm sure they're in no rush to schedule games for tomorrow. The TSSAA outlines things pretty clearly, however: "TSSAA is not encouraging any Districts to play tournament games on Sunday. This decision is, however, being left to the discretion of the teams remaining in that district." Usually isn't the host school ultimately, solely responsible for these type of decisions? Is the TSSAA giving more authority to teams in this instance?
  14. Man oh man. And to think we could have finished these games Sunday.
  15. Right. The truth is also that If not for others like freshman Samariah Thompson and junior Shakaila Smith stepping up when Myah was down, Dyersburg might have a losing record. Teams believe they must stop Myah (see her 44 point performance against Liberty) in order to have the best chance to beat Dyersburg. Thompson has been leading scorer the past two games with about 30 points. Dyersburg's win over Westview earlier this year? Smith was the leading scorer with 16 and Thompson had 11. Myah was 5th in scoring with FIVE. Smith scored 15 in Dyersburg's only win over Crockett this year. Would I feel better if Myah is on in the region quarter-final game? Well absolutely, but I also believe that there are some young players on this team---just like all of 7AA---that can step up make the plays that it takes to beat a quality opponent in late February.
  16. I see your point, GC, but at the end of the day I believe that having to beat Bolivar AND McNairy is much more manageable than having to beat Lexington AND SS. Not saying that Crockett or Dyersburg are either one going to waltz into the region championship. Nor am I saying that Westview is done because they have the latter route. Bolivar and McNairy have played some great teams this year. I also, believe that any team could show out and win the region.
  17. Although SS is highly favored, SS still has a game to play. How will they respond to having this long to think about losing to Bolivar? However, as I've said before, Lexington and SS wins in 14AA (if they ever get to play) would be huge for Crockett and Dburg.
  18. I've said for a long time that consolidation could work in Dyer County. Can you imagine the state titles? Your list of priorities is just about right. At Dyersburg it's probably: 1. Academics 2. Football 3. GIRLS (softball, girls hoops, soccer, etc.) 4. Fine arts Now imagine the possibilities of ONE school. Oh, I love stirring the pot.
  19. As I said, I sure hope so. Clipper of snow coming through tonight. Single digit temperatures tomorrow. More snow Friday.
  20. I know that Coach Palmer is very well respected in the Shelbyville community. A young coach that does a great job communicating with students and parents.
  21. I don't know how we look at the QB spot. Tell me if I'm crazy, but I feel like unless there is a kid with an incredible arm, you put Fields and Nelson back there and the one with the best arm between them is the QB. Run a variation of the Gus Malzahn offense. Anyway, back to reality... should be a great season. Plenty of quality opponents on the schedule as well.
  22. Postponed until Wednesday. The sunshine today may melt things a bit, but the coldest temperatures of the week aren't here yet, so it will just re-freeze. There is a chance that NW TN gets a dusting of snow tonight. They're calling for an inch in Martin. Another system moves in this weekend, and it looks like another icy mess. Friday-Friday night temperatures will be cold enough to produce snow, ice. Saturday it will warm to the mid 40s and turn to rain, but turn back to winter precipitation on Sunday. We might play Thursday, but it's doubtful. If the forecast holds up for this weekend, Saturday and Monday may be our last hopes.
  23. Apparently all 4 school principals, ADs, and coaches approved the move to Sunday, but Mr. Frazier overruled their decision. I just wondered if he sited a specific reason, given that the winter weather threat was imminent. Thankfully, the TSSAA postponed the start of the region tournaments to next Monday for girls and Tuesday for boys in an effort to allow more time for district tournaments to wrap things up. The games have been postponed until tomorrow, but I believe all 4 school districts with teams remaining have already cancelled school tomorrow. I suspect we will get to finish things out Wednesday night. That is unless Mr. Frazier decides church interferes with that again....... However, the TSSAA has rescheduled the region semi-final games (boys and girls) for next Wednesday, so having games at WV on a church night is inevitable.
  24. Yeah that's I heard as well. So who is the superintendent/director for Weakley County Schools, and does anyone know what his reasoning was?
