  1. I said last week not to discredit Crockett. Before the Welch injury, they were #7 in the state and 19-1. They went 4-4 without him. Now they've taken down Westview and Dburg back to back with him back on the floor. Not to be overshadowed by Welch's dominant performance, Dburg had to handle foul trouble for the first time in as long as I can remember. At the end of regulation, four players had four fouls. At the end of the day nothing changes for Dburg. Next game is at home and the next two are win or go home. If they were going to lose a game, it needed to be last night. Westview, Dyersburg, and either FW/SS in the same half of the bracket!? Going to be some good basketball over the next couple of weeks!
  2. This is all true. I will add that Dyersburg beat Chester twice by an average of 31 while FW beat CC by an average of 6. Granted FW owns the head to head with Lexington having defeated LHS by an average of 27 while Dburg won twice by an average of 9 and SS even lost once to CC. I'm glad that you mentioned that Dburg has defeated SS (and did so without Kevin Spencer.) I get the feeling that some on here either didn't know that or had forgotten since it was the second game of the season. And to answer the questions, of course SS or FW could defeat Dyersburg. But Westview could also beat SS or FW. This time of year anything is possible. Going to be exciting. 14AA teams shouldn't overlook Crockett County. They are 5-0 against 14AA with a win over Bolivar and two wins each over Chester and Lexington.
  3. The game Dyersburg played on Friday against Westview was the best performance by any Dyersburg team I've ever seen (and that's a lot). Their chemistry and ball movement is incredible. Dyersburg was 18 of 39 for three for 46% and shot 55% overall. They only committed FOUR turnovers, NONE in the second half.
  4. Welp. http://www.jacksonsun.com/story/sports/high-school/football/2015/08/24/football-state-poll-released/32280955/
  5. We're a little biased, but yeah... Alcoa might have us at practice facility, but we win stadium/field.
  6. Yep. AAA school that values softball as much as football apparently.
  7. He and his wife's parents call middle TN home. Their son looks to move to Chattanooga. AAA school. More pay. Softball is number 1/2 sport at Coffee County. These were some of the reasons he cited for the move.
  8. I would think that a lot of coaches will take a look at this one. 2014 state champs, returns the entire pitching staff including all-state pitcher Paige Jones, had the highest batting average in school history this year I believe. Great program with a great field and community support.
  9. Here's the article courtesy of Dyersburg State Gazette: http://www.stategazette.com/story/2196116.html Seems like they both have good resumes. The players will love the family feel that they will undoubtedly bring to the program.
  10. If Hudson ends up at SGC or Crockett over Dyersburg it is not because of driving distance... Memphis ---> Alamo 81 miles / 1 hour 26 minutes Memphis ---> Dyersburg 74 miles / 1 hour 35 minutes Memphis ---> Medina 95 miles / 1 hour hour 36 minutes
  11. I'm pulling for Hudson. I heard the announcement will be made Monday.
  12. I think Barksdale would definitely win a straw poll among current players. I would love to see him come back. I'm unsure about his teaching qualifications though... I've heard very mixed things about Larue and great things about Kayla Hudson. Two very reliable sources have told me that Poindexter is very interested. I would think that a decision will be made within the next week or so. Exciting stuff!
  13. I have heard that Jonathan West (Dresden) and Steve Poindexter (Munford) are both pursuing the job and are being considered. Lyle Larue is also in the mix, as is a former Dburg assistant who is now in Jacksonville, FL at Arlington Country Day School-- Coach Casey Barksdale. Coach Barksdale is an assistant at ACD, which is a national powerhouse. 7 state titles since 2005.
  14. To my knowledge, the position has not been filled.
  15. I know he's been at Trenton Peabody, Obion Central, and Kennett, Mo. Where is he now?
  16. For Burkley, Dburg would be a pay raise, better facilities, and a bump up from A to AA. He would be leaving behind his hometown. Anyone know how much Middleton girls lost from last season? This would be crazy, but can you throw Cory Barrett in the mix? Since the Dickson County deal fell through, where does he turn? Would he make the downward move to AA? Does he have a choice?
  17. The first two points you made are exactly why they will (in my opinion) involve Coffman. I've heard that he did in fact offer a list of coaches that he recommended for the job.
  18. He definitely has a record of success. Would be a new face for NWTN. One might consider him taking the Dburg job a lateral career move, however.
  19. Well to start, I do not believe that Coach Coffman will allow the DHS administration to hire blindly. He put in 17 years here and he cares too much about the girls he's leaving to leave them with a coach he doesn't believe in. He has a great knowledge of the program, school, and community. He also has great insight into potential coaches that would fit this program, school, and community--not only in NW TN but across a few states. I have a feeling that Coffman will at least offer a list of names for the administration to start from. Here are my thoughts on who Dburg should look at: I'm not sure of his teaching credentials, but I believe that coach Jeff Ward is highly liked among the players. He is currently an assistant for both the boys and girls teams. Lyle Larue (former head coach at Obion Central and newly hired assistant for Crockett County) has a record of success and is familiar with 13AA. Natalie Fuqua the head coach at Martin Middle School has been very successful and is probably who sportlover88 was mentioning in the first post. My next two are long shots, but why not shoot for the stars? Kim Decker former Obion Central player, former Dyersburg teacher and BOYS basketball coach, current principal at Lake County HS. Her husband is leaving Dyersburg to be head football coach at Obion Central. It would probably take a considerable amount of $ considering she would be giving up head principal salary, but crazier things have happened. Maybe she could be vice principal/AD/coach? I'm dreaming on this one, but I think she would be great. James Burkley is the current head coach at Middleton HS where last year his team won the state title and was undefeated. He also coached the West TN TACA All-Star game this year.
  20. Riverdale also picks up a 3 sport athlete. Coach Coffman's son plays baseball, basketball, and football.
  21. Randy Coffman leaves after a successful 17 years at Dyersburg. Coach Coffman had become the face of Dyersburg athletics. He will be missed dearly, and we wish him the best of luck at Riverdale. Here's an article courtesy of Dyersburg's State Gazette: http://www.stategazette.com/story/2187767.html
  22. I hate to break it to you, but that assessment of the forecast is way off. Looks like in Mufreesboro the precipitation will begin tomorrow as all rain. By 7:00 pm, the wintry mix will begin. Changing to all snow by midnight with a low temperature of 23. The snow is forecast to last until mid-morning Thursday, and the high temperature Thursday is 28. Low TR night is NINE degrees. Melting won't being until Friday afternoon (sunny, high 39) This storm system could have major impacts on travel and commerce across the entire state. I just hope the teams and fans make it to the 'boro safely.
